  1. Their set honestly hasn't aged THAT badly as say some sets that have been around for shorter periods of time.

  2. I hope that's not the anchor desk. It's not authoritative. It looks temporary and dinky.

  3. So after exactly one year after a graphics changes & technology upgrades and whatnot, now they're going to install a new studio set? All of that should've been taken care off last year.

  4. Wow two of the most distinctive station brands being retired - KULR 8 and Q 6 - feels like a clumsy consultant recommendation

  5. Attached is a current picture of the existing set from Meterologist Deitra McKenzie's facebook profile: Basically, it looks like the original set that Benedek put in (like WTVY also used to have before they switched to the standard-issue Gil Jimenez Gray set) with some refacing. I remember when they went HD about a decade ago, they had the big studio-like cameras (which were actually hand-me-downs from WNDU...probably from their ND ownership days). As you can see, they are now the tiny PTZ ones that are commonplace with automation systems. At least they're not hanging from the ceiling! Given the cost of such upgrades, it makes sense for a station in a place like Meridian to space these out. Viewers aren't going to notice the automation (if it works like it's supposed to!) so that can be hidden in another year. And with Gray's graphic package rollouts, we all know how that is.

  6. I assume it was overall station budget limitations that nixed a set upgrade during the tech upgrade. Plus both on-air and off-air staff learning new systems is a 'chicken with head cut-off' situation that would be a disaster to occur at the same time. It wasn't optimum but it probably worked out better this way (though uggh I still hate the WBAY logo copy they ended up with).

  7. Judy's last day on PBS NewsHour is confirmed for December 30. She will then embark on a two-year reporting project on American political division.

  8. A part of me wonders if the fact that Kelly was airing episodes a day behind hurt the numbers

  9. Well, honestly, I would rather see the Kelly Clarkson move to either WXIA or WAGA, rather than it stay at 1:36am. If it must stay at 1:36am, then it would mean that ratings must've been bad nationally. If I were one of the other stations, I would not hesitate to get her show right away, bc her show, IMO, does NOT belong at 1:36 in the morning.

  10. Nexstar Station WWLP in Massachusetts, debuted its new set last night during election coverage.

  11. This is probably one of the best station history documentaries ever. It ranks up there with WFLA's 50th from 2005 as far as comprhensive history and even highlighting when the station struggled in the ratings.

  12. On that subject, apparently the interviewer (Markie Martin) is the sister of Margo Martin, Trump’s Deputy Director of Communications. That relationship was not disclosed. I know I should really stop giving NN undue attention, but when they’re interviewing the former president like this, it’s kind of hard to ignore. FTVLive referred to the network as Fox News Lite, but even Fox News has greater levels of transparency. NewsNation is more like Diet Newsmax with a side of Fredo.

  13. Yes, a streaming "news" channel that's basically closer to a Q-anon message board than it is to Fox News. I believe they host Steve Bannon's "show", which says about everything there is to say about them.

  14. Oh heck, you should check out the tired and worn-out operation of KIMA Yakima. 'Uncle' Jimmy Nolan is spinning in his grave. The anchor makes all possible effort to toss to a 'live' report that was taped HOURS ago. He or she will 'ask' the reporter a hook question. Sometimes the anchor is almost done with the question when boom! The recording starts and the reporter's mouth starts moving. Oopsie. That's not all. They will ask meteorologist Mike McCabe 'on tape' from KEPR a hook question as well. If anyone needs to use KIMA 'Action News' as an influence, it's for a Saturday Night Live skit and nothing else. Want a comparison? Check out the old NewsBeat videos from the '90s and you can see, even with a low-budget setup, how KIMA did their best to serve the local community. How long before 29 and 19 both shut down and Molly Shen or Eric Johnson pre-tapes an eastern WA newscast from KOMO?

  15. Looks like there might be a ticker? See above the guy wearing the black shirt. Are those played out? Remember the last KRON set before they left 1001 Van Ness. That set had a ticker.

  17. update on our friends in atlanta: because of a singular election going to a runoff 3pm news stays - georgia seems to REALLY want political ad money. also tamron and Kelly switched up there - wsb might permanently adopt 3pm news at this rate. might be a similar situation here in Orlando in a few months - something has to be done about wftv’s cw-tier lineup. don’t think 3pm news is the answer for any of these markets though. only major change in any of these markets right now. the 2022-23 season has comfortably settled and we have no news on new shows coming in 2023-24 yet

  19. You must be a pretty sadistic GM or ND to do a set launch on election night. Yes, you have a lot of eyes on the product. But the collision of the chaos of everything that goes on behind the scenes of election night and producers, anchors, and production crew being live on a new set for the first time... YIKES.
