  1. As long as the network can keep selling it, they will keep running it. Basic economics.

  2. Anyone correct me here, but I'm pretty sure SNL is why it's still what it is. They definitely command a premium on this 90-min block, considering the ads that show up, especially right after the A block. Ad revenue has never been more important in this economy.

  3. Lisa: All right! It's time for ABC's "TGIF" line-up! Bart: Lis, when you get a little older, you'll learn that Friday is just another day between NBC's "Must See Thursday" and CBS' "Saturday Night Craporama".

  4. "De facto" doesn't matter. It's not part of the official Columbus market.

  5. What's to stop WHIZ of getting ABC? Sinclair doesn't own a station in the Zanesville market.

  6. And there it is. Fox Weather is a joke.

  7. While I agree @MorningNews often gets salty, I kind of agree with them this time as it is somewhat confusing why this is not ok to post. Also, Today in South Florida is used by WTVJ, while WSVN uses Today in Florida.

  8. How is this not really a list thread, anyway?

  9. That’s not how the “rules” read to me and I’m not changing my post. Enjoy your day.

  10. You obviously didn't read the OP fully. It says: Titles such as Good Day (Timbuktu) and Today in (Your Neck of the Woods) – with or without the network/channel number tag – don't fall under this criteria. These are common titles/daypart branding which tend to be associated with stations owned by/affiliated with a specific network: Today in... for NBC and Good Day... for Fox (with a notable exception being WSVN in Miami, whose morning show has been called Today in South Florida since that station was an NBC affiliate).

  11. Explain it then. How is Today in LA or Good Day any different than “Nightbeat” being used as a title for a certain newscast? Maybe I’m confused but those morning titles are only used for those specific broadcast and typically don’t include the time (6am, 7am, etc) and don’t use the station’s general branding (it’s not “NBC 4 News Today in LA,” it’s simply Today in LA).

  12. Regarding Columbus and NightBeat, at the time WBNS was getting their clock cleaned by WCMH at 10pm (and other time slots) so they decided to shake up the 11pm show. This was when NBC still owned WCMH (and now we can say when 10TV was owned by the Wolfes) ... never could we imagine that WSYX and WTTE would rule the ratings and 10TV sells out to Tegna... But back to the recycled news titles. Cleveland had two times of "Action News". WKYC used "Action 3 News" from the 1970s to 1985-ish (likely because Virgil Dominic left WKYC to move to Atlanta for a few years, only to resurface at WJ(K)W to make them more NBC-like with "NewsCenter8" ). Then came the WOIO variant we all know and love until the "Cleveland 19" disaster. Same can be said for "Eyewitness News" in Cleveland. KYW (in their Cleveland years) was one of, if not the first to use the title for their newscasts. Later, WEWS would pick it up and use it all the way until 1990. The one thing that surprised me was how short the "Good Day" brand lasted in Cleveland. It only lasted from 1994 to 1995, from when they went FOX to the "ei8ht is news" era. Even before Fox got a hold of the station. That move of desperation was probably the one thing that kept Fox from implementing it at the time, coupled with WJW's rise to perpetual dominance in the ratings....

  13. I’m a fan of the morning block titles “Today in LA, NY” and Good Day on Fox.

  14. I personally know one of the anchors/reporters at said station in Cleveland. At some point, I hope to ask this person how they feel about these titles and current (soon-to-be-former) ownership's continuing efforts to dumb-down the news...

  15. I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Scene, which WSM-TV/WSMV in Nashville used for many years. And also Pulse, used by WTVT in Tampa and CFCF-TV in Montreal. Wait, I just did.

  16. Here we go again the speculation 5000 on Channel 46 and CBS. Nothing not happening and ANF is going to be just like Clear News here today gone tomorrow. This is so stupid honestly. The brand has been CBS46 and should of stayed CBS46 ANF could of come into play. At this points CBS is moving to Channel 17- here you now go run with that. SMH

  17. What is with this weird fetish for speculating about transactions that never could have / never will happen? Edit: Might as well contribute my two cents to the ANF conversation: what they just did is one of the reasons behind why I left local TV news in 2020. So many that have ascended the ranks of local news management have absolutely no idea what a “brand” is. It’s so much more than a logo. No one is addressing the issues with content. Look at a newscast from 1980 and compare it to one today - the format is almost identical, even the presentation… and that’s a huge problem. You want a younger audience? They don’t want to hear a 4 minute weather forecast from a guy older than their grandfather. There’s a station in Milwaukee that’s running a promo that says “DON’T WATCH US” and claims that they aren’t going to cover the car crashes and endless crime stories and they’ll focus on local storytelling… but guess what, I watched them and that was a lie. They can’t live up to that brand promise. I had the same reaction as some who saw the lead story on Atlanta News FIRST was the hurricane that was not coming anywhere close to Atlanta. So what does that new branding even mean? I don’t think there’s anything deeper here than just dropping a ridiculously high channel number. Changing call letters is incredibly stupid. I mean, go ahead and do it, but I don’t think it’s worth mentioning. Working in TV news was my dream, but looking back on it… I look at the product the stations I worked for put out and I ask myself: “Who is this for?” I give ANF a couple years before it’s dropped for another meaningless rebrand.

  18. Agree growing up in Yakima left around 2009 I can see a day coming that WA state has just KING 5 and KHQ and so on.

  19. Same w/ KNDO-KNDU...no longer using the older music I believe. We don't watch much KNDU as I think KVEW has improved in recent months. Could this be the beginning of the end for the central WA NBC affiliates? With KHQ sharing the 4pm news with KNDU, how long will Tracci Dial keep her job?

  20. On the subject of cutting/trimming and SNL, why is that show still 90 minutes long? An hour is fine. SNL has about two or three strong sketches with a lot of misses in between. Not to mention sketches have to drag on way past their punchline or weaker bits make it to tv to fill air time. All this on top of constant commercials.
