  1. A little off from graphics, but holy billboards CCO is marketing the hell out of their 4:00 show. One digital billboard flipped to three different “The 4” billboards in a row. Is there really that much $$$ in that time slot?

  2. Trying to cast this as but anything but a downgrade and contract burn-off is completely impossible.

  3. Marni isn’t stupid, though. She’s probably padding her resume as we speak. Any credible journalist would want to get the hell out of there asap. As far as the programming goes (Cuomo is taking over the 9pm slot), it’s ironic how CNN is desperately trying to cast off it’s opinionated approach (a few years too late), while the “all facts, no opinion” channel has gone all-talk in prime time.

  4. He's like Rodney Dangerfield -- no respect. Also, hadn't he disappeared for a while between being dumped from evening to resurfacing in the AM? Or was that the 6pm period?

  5. It appears that John Muller is replacing Craig Treadway as weekend morning co-anchor with Kirstin Cole. I tuned in this morning and Craig Treadway was anchoring the 4am newscast with Vanessa Freeman. Lots of changes at PIX, and Muller seems to have been demoted several times since he returned to the station as lead anchor. First, he was dropped from the 5 and 10pm newscasts in favor of Kori Chambers. Then he was dropped at 6pm and moved to the early morning slot, and now weekend mornings.

  6. mre29 is right. One word describes Nexstar’s big three via Tribune...HERITAGE. And I agree w/ TheRolyPoly, said big three (and others?) should keep their non-network brands and not have “CW” or whatever it will become overpower them.

  9. Lifelong Minnesotan here- even if you are correct, they will take a sweet long time to kill off the best known branding/call letters in the state. They had the opportunity to unveil the CBSN MN brand to the tens of thousands who walk by their booth at the state fair and every sign, banner, and giveaway had the classic WCCO logo on it. Along with the billboards, you don’t spend that kind of money on promos and giveaways (even if they are paper fans and reusable grocery bags) to flip it right away.

  10. You can spin it anyway you want, it’s a demotion, unless they asked to be placed there.

  11. Just because someone is on the weekends, it doesn't always mean it's a demotion. KTLA's Lynette Romero has co-anchored the KTLA 5 Weekend Morning News for quite some time now. Most will remember, Lynette was brought in from Denver to co-anchor weeknights with the legendary Hal Fishman. That pairing always seemed odd and the chemistry was weird. For many years after she was moved off of weekday nights, Lynette served as a GA reporter (which she does a great job). She found her stride again as a strong anchor on the weekends where she can show her personality. She's also a great fill-in on the weekdays when the A/B anchors are out. Also, lets not forget Kathy Vara at KNBC. She was brought in during the mid 1990s to anchor next to Kent Shockneck on Today in LA. They were a strong team for many years. They domimated ratings at the time as well. Kathy left for KABC for a short time and has since returned to KNBC as weekend co-anchor. Again, Kathy does a fantastic job and knows the market. She's been a great go-to person when news breaks on the weekend (OC church shooting earlier this year). Should Colleen Williams retire or Carolyn Johnson choose to move on to something else, Kathy would definitely be the #1 choice to fill either seat if I were the ND.

  12. One of the problems was the tail end of the 19-20 and last season of Ellen were pretty much the last thing most viewers wanted to watch, so for many of these stations, they do have to spend the money and say that they have something to watch at 4pm, even if it's a newscast. Also The Four is probably there to stay just based on hashtag-ness (#thefouronwccofour or #thefouronfour); if it was The 4 on CBS 39...yeah, that's a temp title.

  14. I’ve given up trying to understand the logic behind many of PIX’s staffing arrangements. The only constant at that station is change, and Muller’s certainly used to that.

  18. I came across this interesting story that mentions the upcoming launch of the new CBS News Detroit local newscast on WWJ & WKBD. The new newscast is expected to debut in or around November. Unless CBS decides to do soft launch at the tail end of October in the days before Election Day. This should be interesting. https://digiday.com/future-of-tv/how-cbs-news-co-presidents-neeraj-khemlani-and-wendy-mcmahon-are-stepping-up-their-streaming-news-outlet/amp/

  20. That pretty funny, but that small market finally moving into 5pm news arena is funny! Look for CBS46 to produced a 10pm news on Peachtree TV 17 coming soon. According to Erik Schrader on a podcast saying they're working on a 10pm show. https://www.rbr.com/the-infocus-podcast-erik-schrader/

  21. I’m sure the anchors would find a way to get back in time for a majority of the coverage but there are much more robust contingency plans for network news these days than the 60s. For instance, George or Whit Johnson are more than capable of holding things together in David’s absence. Savannah or Tom Llamas could hold things down at NBC while Lester was en route. I have no idea who works at CBS.

  22. KPIX slowly debuted the new look on the monitor wall and some Lower thirds Juliette Goodrich doing a standup for the 6pm tease “CBS NEWS BAY AREA with Juliette Goodrich.” im kinda impressed with the NEW B-Roll shots they are using of the SF skyline and the SF Bay with the Golden Gate Bridge from afar.

  23. In this age of being connected all the time, I'm sure there's a plan in place to get a hold of the big 3 anchors. I believe in the last decade, NBCs Lester Holt was out of the country on vacation and flew back to NY to cover the story. Unfortunately, I can't recall which "big" story is was. Most network anchors will usually end their vacation and come back to ensure they are the face of the network's coverage.

  24. There won't be a "Daytime Wheel of Fortune" run until Pat and Vanna retire. Also have to consider the void (especially on the coasts) between Nightline and World News Now with 4 a.m. becoming the new 4:30 a.m. When America This Morning (ABC's early morning newscast) starts taping live at 3:30AM in New York City, that gap in between (1:05am-2:00am) will become so small that those who wish to watch same-day repeats of Live! and Tamron Hall will have to make use of their DVRs (assuming that ABC does not pull off what NBC is thinking of doing in primetime) for there will only be 55 minutes in between. Yes, we do get an additional hour in Houston, but it's still so little time to where only a West Coast rebroadcast of World News Tonight and either the Jeopardy! repeat or a rebroadcast of the late news will do.

  25. That Cleveland 19 News brand suck. He really should stop hopefully there still include the CBS46 as the general brand.

  26. If that weren't weird enough, how about Daytime "Jeopardy!" in late night? KTRK in Houston has got you covered.

  27. ^ At this rate, I won't be surprised if by the end of the decade, J! is offered up to a quad run and Wheel is still one single run restricted to the prime access hour.

  28. From the AJC: Georgia Entertainment Scene Blog By Rodney Ho, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution 9 hours ago New ownership is dropping WGCL in favor of WANF Starting early next month, CBS46 will begin calling itself Atlanta News First and will change its call letters to WANF-TV. It’s part of a rebranding campaign by new owners Atlanta-based Gray Television, which took over the station, along with Peachtree TV (WPCH-TV), last December after purchasing Meredith Corp.’s TV stations. Gray is trying to reinvigorate CBS46, a longtime ratings laggard under Meredith and has gone on a hiring spree this year with the intent of growing its newsroom by the end of the year by at least 40 people. Recently, its local news operation has seen a lift in ratings against NBC affiliate 11Alive (WXIA-TV) but remains behind leaders WSB-TV (Channel 2 Action News) and Fox 5 (WAGA-TV). The slogan “Atlanta News First,” said general manager Erik Schrader, “really matches up with what we’re trying to do. It seems like there is so much cable and national news. There’s room for us to be hyper local and make sure people understand that when we cover the news.” The call letters have been WGCL since 2000 when the station briefly used it to promote “Clear News.” Gray this year has added newscasts at 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on CBS46. It now has eight hours of local news on the channel, up from six hours a year ago. It has also added regular “One on One” interview specials on Peachtree TV from longtime journalist Monica Pearson, who so far has talked to a range of local celebrities such as rapper Yung Joc, comic Jeff Foxworthy and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. Gray is now one of the largest owners of TV stations in the United States. So- the former owners changed the call letters/ branding two decades ago- and now within 5 decades on the air- it changed it call letters. Wasn't Erik Schrader responsible for Cleveland 19? He should stop doing branding names for 4th place CBS affiliates.

  29. They could always air infomercials in that slot for now... Better that than where they have been airing lately: Between September 1-9, WHP is pre-empting Wheel of Fortune four times for Time Life gospel infomercials! Obviously, Jeopardy! is not affected by this (since affiliates are apparently not allowed to pre-empt J! but not Wheel, and if they have to, J! needs to move to the Wheel slot). No sign of this continuing after the season premiere at least, but still, even if it's in repeats, pre-empting a Top 5 syndicated program four times in a week and a half over shows that are leaving feels like it shouldn't be allowed. Could this be a Sinclair thing? They already do this a lot with WOF on Saturdays but not right now since College Football on CBS means the Rocket Post Game Show always causes the 7:00 slot to get JIP'd.

  30. Honestly, I hope it looks good because the set they just left looked very good. And I don't have a lot of faith in this new owner, but I hope he proves me wrong.

  31. They are now running a 24/7 Wheel of Fortune streaming channel on Pluto TV, so you'd think they'd now allow a second repeat airing of the show in syndication for stations that would be interested.

  32. If anything, the slogan 'Atlanta News First' will put behind much of its past, including the sleazy gossip tabloid period of CBS Atlanta (where they attempted to make Atlanta gossip on the level of New York's a thing) and when they had Ben Swann. The same slogan and direction has done wonders for WVUE's perception in New Orleans., along with their hires.

  33. It would not shock me if more news gets added at WPXI. I'm not saying they will, but if they did, it would not be a surprise. It is surprising to see Judge Judy move to WPGH however. I didn't expect that. And Kelly Clarkson's show is obviously getting an audience, or else it wouldn't still be on the air. It shouldn't hurt WTAE's ratings. Hopefully with the show being in a better timeslot in Pittsburgh, it will get better ratings.

  34. Personally, I like the branding concept. But if the station is to leave the cellar, it will be because viewers like the on-air talent, not the graphics or the slogan.

  38. I doubt it. Y&R is #1 and B&B is popular in Europe. Can't see them going any time soon. However, I think General Hospital could be in trouble in the next couple of years. They've lost many LONG-TIME stars over the past few years (Anthony Geary, Steve Burton over vaccines, etc.) but Y&R seems stable for now. Meanwhile, central WA gains Jennifer Hudson on KAPP/KVEW. Either 2pm or 4pm (replacing The Doctors or Good Dish). Also, KAPP gains Friends reruns (!?) at 11:05 PM which moves Jimmy Kimmel a half-hour later to the normal 11:35 PT timeslot. JKL aired at 11:05 for years, since ABC swapped Nightline. KAPP only airs a 2.5 min. news update and about 3 min. of commercials at 11PM. No word on Pictionary, Sherri (probably replacing Wendy Williams on KNDO), Karamo, The Neighborhood, American Housewife, iCrime, etc...
