  1. Just two months ago, we heard about "key staff departures" and "the design has not been finalized." Signs point to this look not launching for a while longer.

  2. It would not surprise me if KYW and KDKA début the new graphics in time for the start of the 2022 season for the Steelers and Eagles.

  3. Love all of it except the lowers and the font weights they went with. TT Norms is a very versatile font with a variety of weights and widths and they went with medium condensed? As a designer I would have went a normal width and mixed thin/medium weights (for first and last names) for the talent lowers and medium weight for everything else. Secondly the lowers themselves are just too damn big with way too much wasted space. It is good to see the I Love Chicago signature be put out to pasture for the CBS jingle. Pretty sure I saw somewhere KYW would be debuting theirs somewhere around the fall season kickoff. Maybe this coming Sunday night after football.

  4. KPIX slowly debuted the new look on the monitor wall and some Lower thirds Juliette Goodrich doing a standup for the 6pm tease “CBS NEWS BAY AREA with Juliette Goodrich.” im kinda impressed with the NEW B-Roll shots they are using of the SF skyline and the SF Bay with the Golden Gate Bridge from afar.

  5. Looks more like a transitional phase upon which the "WCCO" name is slowly retired in favor of "CBS News Minnesota". I dare say even the name "The 4 on WCCO" is transitional. KCNC may be getting the "CBS News NOW" graphics next week out of necessity alone. It's not like that station is stuck with running on the 2016 look when they rebrand.

  6. Nothing to apologize for, Georgie56. Sure nycnewsjunkie, it's only graphics, but imagine all the viewers who won't even notice a difference, if one actually ever comes. It's great to gab about it here. So in the meantime, it's time to keep partying like it's 2016.

  7. Also, if the demo is on YouTube before it even launches, there’s a decent chance that it’s not the final product.

  8. Channel 12 changed the opens with the updated logo last week (8/29). I think WCVB was the only one to change to that logo, several months ago. Now every other station is playing catch up.

  9. I mean, it’s only graphics. No need for an apology. It’s not the end of the world or anything. Besides, they’ll get the full set at some point.

  10. Not exactly the launch of a new look in Minneapolis.

  11. For KCAL's planned morning-news block they might just do something like that.

  12. You are right. That is an odd configuration of shifts and times. They do not have enough weather forecasters. It's a pretty big move to have Sara Donchey anchor solo at 11 -- she's been at 5 for less than a year, and already has gotten some "She's too L.A." snarkiness -- . I thought America's go-to caricature of the L.A. news personality was the "bubble-headed bleached blonde" Don Henley sang about? Pat Harvey has been solo-anchoring at KCBS for a long time. Marc Brown at KABC too, at least the last I looked. Seems to be the way of things I guess.

  13. Odd that this big a change would debut on a holiday. I hope something happens soon! We are all still waiting for Godot to finally show up! I like the look a lot, it's in line with CBS News style, but I wanna see some local channel numbers.

  15. mrschimpf, good point. Soft launches are probably best. And on Labor Day, don't forget stories from the beaches about sunscreen and safety, and also the gas prices, when a reporter is sent to a Mobil station to ask people filling up "What do you think of the price of gas?" Answer: "Well, uh...pretty high. Yeah. Gotta have it though." etc.

  16. Back to WSMV. They've made a small branding change this Labor Day. The news brand has changed "News 4 Nashville" to "WSMV 4 News". They've also the first station to use new theme music from (founder of 615 Music) Randy Wachtler's new music firm, 11 One/Music.

  17. Nothing truly exciting/groundbreaking here as Hearst starts to get the de-glossed logos on their stations with WISN-TV today (note the bug just has the new bug overlaying the old ABC logo, apparent when it does the freeze-in prevention animation);

  18. DIG that graphics package! Wonder what that package will look like on KCNC Denver, as well as other CBS O&Os.

  19. Well, that was a dud. I'm so sorry, guys. At least we have KCNC to look forward to next Monday.

  20. I tried to quote Nick, but it ended up as a blank quote, so I'll say that launching on a holiday; best time to do it outside a weekend morning. You have the diehards paying attention to glitches and errors so they can be fixed the next day easily and not show up and be very noticeable to regular viewers, and behind the scenes is less stressed having to fix things around known and scheduled coverage of Tajikistani Sorghum Days at the Fairplex in Pomona, last day before back to school coverage of sprinkler pads to deal with the heat, and 'boy the box office sure does suck, huh?' coverage rather than a breaking 'all hands on deck' story.

  21. They both have experience been there a long time they can do it alone.

  22. No, there's another downside, though it's more of a hardware issue than anything: The streaming remote used to peruse those services often lack number buttons, effectively forcing you to use the program guide or flip from channel to channel just to get to the one you want to watch.

  23. In this age of being connected all the time, I'm sure there's a plan in place to get a hold of the big 3 anchors. I believe in the last decade, NBCs Lester Holt was out of the country on vacation and flew back to NY to cover the story. Unfortunately, I can't recall which "big" story is was. Most network anchors will usually end their vacation and come back to ensure they are the face of the network's coverage.

  24. Last week KCNC announced that CBS 4 News would be rebranded as CBS Colorado News, in addition to adding 9AM and 4PM newscasts starting next Monday. https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/news/cbs-news-colorado-announces-new-initiative-additional-newscasts/?fbclid=IwAR1fZUYQHbzc1nUCY5vuxQqHsJiPJmpCvUTeEAaDL8qg5mPbYRydlSgM2sk

  26. Also, look at the podcasts they got out there... more than they should have, honestly.

  27. The channels on Pluto TV, which is FREE look better than channels they want you to pay 150 bucks for with the cable subscription. That in itself says a whole lot.....unless that was the goal in the first place.

  28. As a 90s kid - and more specifically a 90s Nickelodeon kid - this is definitely lazy. Though the week after with iCarly and America's Funniest Home Videos seems somewhat better. But if Paramount is just going to go waste on TeenNick, might as well do what NBC just did and free up the linear space for something more useful. Also, look at the TV listings for Nicktoons - almost nothing but SpongeBob. The Nicktoons creative crew has fallen a long way from the days of Doug Funnie and a bunch of "dumb babies"...which may very well accurately describe Viacom's Paramount's cable management. Just like MTV2 is nothing more than "all Snooki, all Farrah Abraham, all the time" now. So much for the secondhand communications facility in Hauppauge that HBO handed down to them when HBO moved to Atlanta...

  30. Another look at the new paint job for Chopper 2 from Dan Rice's Instagram and there's something starting with an "S" on the side... Could Chopper 2, which has been the branding since at least 1997, be renamed Sky 2 or Sky Eye 2? https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch8BorboZit/

  31. @TheRolyPoly I'm not sure what you are responding to here. I know WRAL/WRAZ simulcast news in the morning, midday, and afternoon. I mentioned that in my response to the original poster that said WRAZ would have to change affiliations because FOX wouldn't allow a simulcast of WRAL. So I was letting the original poster know there are already time periods where news is simulcast on WRAZ.

  32. They already have their own newshour at noon, so here I think keeping the pre-emption is justified, and Rachael/Drew just works for that time in general. And why would you air 12 hour-old news when you can air five hour-old news in late night? NBC was probably happy here to keep the status quo with Bonneville and not shake things up.

  33. Based on what other O&Os are doing, it is likely Jim and Janelle. Now would be a good time to hand over the noon to the 4pm team.

  34. Personally, I like the branding concept. But if the station is to leave the cellar, it will be because viewers like the on-air talent, not the graphics or the slogan.

  35. This is what happens when there is no innovation or creativity, you become a distant memory. This is the network that built Must See TV, now they are crumbling and shifting their efforts to Peacock. Currently, NBC has 6 hours of Dick Wolf, they air The Voice twice a year, and they have no comedy hits. The kids have gone to streaming or You-Tubing, leaving only the oldies watching broadcasting/cable. It's obvious that the next generation of viewers no longer sees broadcasting television as relevant. They're not the only ones doing lazy programming, ABC will be airing 4 hours of Bachelor in Paradise this fall and CBS has always relied on cookie-cutter acronym procedurals for the last couple decades.

  36. In the case of WRAL it might not be a great move. They already have a 10:00 news on Fox 50. It could be simulcast though. In Charlotte it would presumably upset the balance of three 10s and 3 11s, as WCNC’s would likely move to 10pm. Still it seems inevitable.
