  1. Simple, catchy, it really rolls off the tongue. Whoever came up with that is a genius! I love it! /s

  2. I think the issue is more with technology just being too fast through the 2010s; you were dealing with DLP projectors and plasmas being the top technologies at that time...which required a whole lot of power and space to operate and maintain, along with most still being stuck on the 50s-era lighting that made a television studio a sauna despite being able to junk the CRTs. With syndication still lively, sets in the past were used five-six hours, tops, so looks were put over comfort (and don't forget the stupid late-10s 'standing' trend). The other thing was that those first HD sets were just built to 'pop' on an HD screen, or you had stations like Young building a very cheap default template where the only customization available was some glass inserts, your slogan, and a couple of beauty shots. Now you've got flat LED screens, light bars, quieter and more efficient AC cooling, and with syndication dying court show by court show, those sets are getting up to twelve hours of use, you gain a lot of that space back where lighting, duratrans and screen hardware were taking up space, and the gaudy design trends of the HD launch era have long settled down. You're looking for any way to both save money and make sure a set isn't going to wear out from multiple shifts, and it's better to junk a set that's costing more money just to light and keep active than a new one heavy on LED screens and light bars, is designed for actual people, and has more overall flexibility to be used for social stuff.

  4. I can understand deleting the website (you can't get tickets to a non-existent show) and Twitter/Instagram (that's so ephemeral), but the YouTube simply is probably Wendy having control of that content and refusing to allow DM/Lionsgate to retain the channel at all (same as when Letterman had his CBS-managed channel removed when the show ended and then started a WWP-managed channel), which would be justified. Sherri also probably didn't want to keep the content of her guest host run up because she's already dealing with a big enough minefield with everyone as it is and prefers a full fresh start, and that includes the social accounts; unlike other cases such as Circa's subscribers becoming National Desk subscribers and being like 'oh yeah, Circa's gone...guess I'll stick around for this, same thing', you do not want to have those Wendy-era followers who don't like the show now sticking around to hate-watch you and just "Where's Wendy you suck"-ing every post.

  5. I see two possibilities for KCNC Denver: CBS News Denver Now OR CBS News Colorado Now. But either way, sounds like a mouthful to say.

  6. In retrospect, the move to WCBS (which is where I remember her from growing up) might have been an attractive offer, but didn't have the best outcome. If Roz still had as much popularity at the time, it would seem like they'd put her on the critical 6 and 11 PM newscasts, but That's the nature of broadcasting. Stations are often ready to put the next new face in the chair. One can say the Liz Cho move paid off as she's still with the station almost 20 years later.

  7. I suppose only 4/15 consistently good stations isn’t exactly a great track record for the station group, so you definitely have a point there. And it certainly makes sense to ditch Enforcer (if that’s in the works.) IMHO, that music had its day, and I wouldn’t mind seeing the back of it in favor of something new. That said, I still don’t understand how going the CTV route with local branding would increase ratings at the dead weight stations. WFOR, KYW, WBBM, etc. may not have anything to lose by ditching their local titles, but what would they have to gain that would make them stand out from WSVN, WPVI, or WGN? Considering that they might also ditch the local brands of the more successful stations, they’d be gambling away successful and proven names for the remote possibility that they improve in other markets. It sounds like cutting off one’s nose to spite their face in their competitive markets (one could include WBZ as being competitive for CBS too, given WHDH’s loss of NBC.) You’re right that WWJ will be branding as CBS News Detroit, but you could say that’s because WWJ (TV) never carved out any distinct identity whatsoever. This kind of branding actually works for their case, as it puts the power of a big network brand (even if their national news is incredibly weak) behind a station that has little to no news reputation to speak of. It’s entirely possible that you’re right, and they go the CTV route. I suppose there’s also a non-zero chance they go generic for their struggling stations while keeping local brands intact on their more successful ones. There’s also a chance that the local brands don’t go away at all, even with the new “CBS News” brand on certain newscasts and online (see posts from @Geoffrey in the WCBS thread for potential evidence of that.) The whole thing still seems like a bit of a crapshoot to me, and I know we’re just making very early guesses, but it’ll definitely be interesting to see what happens in the fall.

  8. WSBK is keeping their 8pm news and moving the 10pm portion of their MyNet schedule to 1am. I think it would’ve been easier for them to have the news at 9 and 10 and MyNet from 11pm-1am.

  9. Everything is pointing to CBS using these DFW-hub produced newscasts as what will subsume all the existing brands. (NewscastStudio isn’t exactly a reliable source, tbh, I could barely read what Michael Hill wrote.) Outside of WCCO, KCNC, WJZ and KDKA, the CBS O&Os are laggards. WFOR, KYW-TV and WBBM have nothing to lose by becoming CBS News Miami, CBS News Philadelphia and CBS News Chicago, respectively. Ditch the current number and call letter brands and Enforcer, too. Besides, it’s all but confirmed that WWJ-TV will be rebranding as CBS Detroit/CBS News Detroit when their news operation launches.

  10. This youtube creator parody of an 80s ABC O&O newscast deserves to be in the classic video - such attention to detail right down to the tone and facial expression for the opening story

  11. This was mentioned in the CBS 3 thread in the Philly forum a few months back when they first started broadcasting from the temp set(s). At the time due to Covid, everyone was positioned at different locations around the building. Now though the anchors are all together in the sat center with Weather and Sports done from a monitor in what they call The Great Hall. I'm guessing they'll be debuting their new set (which we can believe will be their version of the CBS O&O set in a can) and whatever new O&O graphics in time for the Fall Season.

  12. IIRC, WCBS gave her an offer to do 5p and 11p with Ernie Anastos, her former Ch. 7 colleague. Considering that she had been passed over for Liz Cho when Diana Williams reduced her workload, perhaps she figured Ch. 2 was her best shot at a main anchor seat. Unfortunately for her, Ch. 2 dropped a #2 on its anchors by constantly shuffling them around, and she didn’t last there very long.

  13. These graphics are so clean and sleek. WABC needs them ASAP. WABC quite frankly has the worst graphical presentation of all the O&Os. KGO and KABC look the best IMO.

  14. Interesting move. Makes me wonder if KBCW will ramp up a 10 pm newscast again or heck even a morning show *shrug*

  15. Time to blow the dust off this thread. The weather graphics are almost always the canary in the coal mine, the fist sign of changes. These debuted at 4pm, and they align with all new graphic teases I've seen, from the colors, to the font, to even the little arrows that appear in a few spots. Nice reminder: if anyone quotes this post, please remove the screenshots from the quotation box.

  16. I'm keeping an eye on weather brandings. Outside of Weather, First Alert Weather is the most popular brand in the country and continues to grow. I know because Gray's WGGB/WSHM just adopted First Alert Weather within the last two-three weeks. CBS saw the name as an opportunity for some of its markets.

  19. Breaking News : WABC-TV News Director, Rehan Aslam, passed away in Ohio this morning. For nearly a year, Rehan had been battling an aggressive brain tumor. He fought with bravery and optimism until the very end. https://www.facebook.com/100044295403305/posts/pfbid02h8nkCLcMZFxJxvNTLV6pEoSC4nmzQe3pCnUvdMy7cCmjnS3CSLo15ZYNeNQEXqyAl/?sfnsn=mo
