  1. Looks nice, though I'm a little surprised. Their outgoing set wasn't even four years old. https://www.facebook.com/MarcusWashingtonNBCBayArea/posts/pfbid02M4AgkGSXM4RLqMCkz1bTW5WTag9pHg3t12S3EvLLT7ueg7aiuZA8JTFXpUoiAt7Wl

  2. There's just too many cable networks that could easily be a streaming service option, so I'm glad NBC is cutting weight on this (it seems like they only ever carried it because of pressure from the IOC president, not any viewer demand). And it pretty much seems like Oxygen going OTA in O&O markets means that network is next. But it shouldn't be on NBC and Disney alone to cut useless networks (there Disney XD and Junior are a Spectrum or Comcast RTC contract away from leaving the air going by the international wind-downs for D+). There are several networks literally only existent to carry two prime series with no reruns, and then 90s sitcoms for the other 166 hours, and the output of VH1 and MTV2 can easily be merged onto MTV without any viewer revolts. Same with a lot of Discovery's networks and TruTV, and FYI and Vice could go for A&E, while WeTV at this point could be an AMC+ hub.

  3. I've liked their programming in the past, but NBC has so many cable stations that they may be reinventing the wheel with certain things. Too bad. Certain olympic sports need better exposure for better understanding and following.

  4. They just had that set five and a half years ago. Why they need a new set now?

  5. The SF Bay Area is not a heavy severe WX market compared to say....Boston. No need for a fancy WX center. I'm ok with NBCBA's new set not having one. Their previous set was *OK,* but other NBC O&Os have updated in recent year and I'm sure they wanted to be on brand as best as they could. Am I trippin? This looks like their old set. I don't this is the new set that everyone is critiquing.

  6. WMAQ got rid of their weather center recently. They use it as a stand up area now. This is a direct result of the pandemic. I hate it. I miss the wide shots and tosses from weather and sports at stand up areas or the weather center. It gave the shows more depth then talking in boxes and switching graphics or using transitions.

  7. Weather Centers are dated… make the set more versatile by not locking in on such a wasted space. As for the overall design and how it looks when you see the whole thing - how often does that’s even happen anymore? Shows happen in double boxes and 2-shots and in front of giant monitor walls.

  10. Personally really liked the WLS graphics of the last several years, really easy to read from couch distance, nice dimension to them. 'Instant classic.' I know others prefer the flat mobile / tablet screen look but it's not my thing. The blurred skyline background is pretty though. Reminds me of the KTVU late 90s look.

  14. Keep in mind too that when the set was built originally, they were doing SportsCenter literally from 9am Eastern until 2am Eastern, now it's totally different.

  15. Losing someone as daring as Wendy from the mix tends to do things like that. No coincidence that both WBZ and KABC debuted iconic ahead-of-their-time looks under her watch.

  16. These look really nice, clean and professional. The in-house team that designed the current graphics being used at WABC should be arrested. It's like all the weather graphics at every station are growing up. Long gone are the days where we see the 5 day forecast with the sun wearing sunglasses.

  17. For those wondering when WABC might get new graphics. ABC is switching to a shared graphics package for all their O&O stations.
