  1. There's been radio silence since the initial report in January, aside from Deadline saying last month that the deal is closing soon. I think the situation is still fluid. The moving to streaming scenario may have been an option that was discussed and the showrunner heard it through the grapevine. It could be that WBD sees the value in keeping the CW entity in-house and moves the branding and content to HBO Max. Nexstar gets sold a blank broadcast network infrastructure that they can brand and program how they see fit.

  2. No, it just means someone with a Twitter account talked with a person who had two failed pilots at WB/Discovery. So this Tweet changes nothing; it is just rumor and conjecture. Until there is official word that Nexstar has sealed a deal for the network or that the current owners are shutting down its linear feed (a highly unlikely scenario given the network's affiliate contracts) we know nothing. More than likely, the producer pitching products was told WB/Discovery was investing in HBO Max instead of CW. That makes sense given everything they have said about making a central streaming destination. Doesn't mean CW is shutting down...just means another owner has to fund it.

  3. Well, an established network of broadcast stations would be a GREAT place to launch an all-news channel that virtually ANYONE can watch over the air, FOR FREE! But this is Nexstar we're talking about, the company that invented shaking down cable companies for the privilege of carrying their programming. So why should another "Fair and Balanced" news channel they created be any different? There's nothing like it out there so it should rake in the subscribers and retrans dollars...right? Then again, WGN America would be nice to have back....if they went back to when they actually carried WGN Chicago's newscasts....Heck, just rebroadcast the WGN Morning News and put Tom Skilling on at night, and it would be ratings gold!

  4. To the person at Nexstar Creative Services who keeps insisting on shoving the desk in the corner: You can stop now. We’ve seen enough. BDI has done much better work in the past (including the previous WTTV set if I’m not mistaken.) This new set’s a bit of a let down imho, but if it gives them a bit more space, it works. I just wish Nexstar would focus their investments on their stations’ journalistic output instead of throwing money at replacing a set that still looked pretty good.

  5. Interesting rumor. If Adult Swim goes to streaming only, what happens to CN during nights and overnights? Do what the Disney Channel has done for decades and use the CN Block and programming during these dayparts? Adult Swim is very popular and some of the other linear channels in the WB Discovery family like Discovery Family and Boomerang are just "there". Plus, Kids channels are declining every year and are not likely going to gain viewers ever again.

  7. I remember when Les Moonves first announced the CW name, even back then industry insiders thought the name was stupid. But executives felt it didn't matter; they were already full steam ahead, and they had no choice but to keep it. I can see the same thing here, and if anything, there's probably even less incentive to change it; unlike back then, The CW as a brand is firmly established. People know what it is, so why risk confusing the public with a new name? It was actually the same logic used by Nickelodeon executives when they decided against renaming it as part of their move to bring it up from the bottom of the cable ratings back in the mid 80s. Even though it didn't make much sense to the target audience (being inspired by a format that hadn't been relevant since before movies had sound), it was already known to the public, and in the long run, it didn't matter - Nickelodeon, as we all know, saw its ratings skyrocket, and was one of the highest rated networks on TV before streaming came along.

  8. Why couldn't they have modified the previous set? This is such a money suck from the Creative budget.

  9. Who starts a timelapse when the thing is 90% built and they're only making final adjustments? Anyway, it looks good given what a small space they have. Crazy to me that the green screen is hidden behind a sliding wall.

  11. Does this mean Nexstar won't be buying The CW? Plus, switching the network to streaming only would hurt the affiliates, unless MyNetwork TV could fill some slots.

  14. I used to enjoy prior versions of The Talk, as it was a more lighthearted version of The View that did not focus exclusively on politics. But my favorite hostess was Sharon Osbourne and I felt it was wrong they forced her off the program. Not a fan of identity politics or the cancel culture. She may be eccentric, elitist, and a bit arrogant, but she is not racist. She only stood up for Piers Morgan and his right to state his opinion. She should have perhaps been suspended for hostile demeanor but certainly not fired from the program. Now it has moved in a new direction with the male hosts, and I really only appreciate Natalie Morales but would rather see her talents utilized in the CBS News division, as NBC had demoted her on Today.

  15. KD has always been dominant at noon. 30 minutes is more than enough time for news. There's other dayparts they can sell ad time. I wouldn't mind y&REASON moving to 3, Since wpxi moved days to 1. That said, I barely follow the soaps anymore. Hypothetically if b&b moved to 2 it should be an hour, standing fully on its own. Talk has always been a waste of space/vanity project for Moonves's wife and she's not even there anymore. Also one hour newscasts on 4 and 12 were no brainers cause Y&R was killing everything at 12:30. The day late Access Hollywood on ch 4 was a slot warmer for ages. CBS/WB will probably retain some minority share to justify keeping the name the same for a while.

  16. Your wrong. They will change the Network name to Entertainment Nation (because of News Nation). P.S: I don't really think Nexstar will actually change The CW's name.

  20. This screams that FOX may be the one who would be upset with Nexstar if they buy the CW. Remember, NONE of the FOX owned UPN stations switched to The CW because Tribune was also in every market they were in and Tribune owned a piece of The WB. Many of Nexstar's board members used to be Tribune employees. If I was FOX, I may want to start looking at other owners to fill gaps, it could be a repeat of 2011's retransmission differences all over again for Nexstar. If that happens, 44 markets would switch to The CW from Fox and 23 Stations would lose MyNetworkTV.

  21. Over in Central/Mountain, most CBS affiliates air Y&R at 11am, allowing for a 12pm news and B&B at 12:30 to round out the hour. Many of these stations have just as dominant of a noon show than if TPIR was at 11 (it's at 10am). LMAD seems like the wild card that goes between 2/3 pm and 9/10am depending on the market (and time zone). It seems the last time the networks were willing to give the time back to their affiliates was back in the 80s/90s when all the game shows started dropping like flies. Even when all of the soaps starting disappearing a decade or so ago, the networks kept the time and put on the cheaper "filler" shows we have to this day. The lone exceptions are things like ABC dumping "Port Charles" and NBC giving up on the "Later" shows for either a repeat of Nightly News or a late news rebroadcast. Back to "if/when" the CW ends up under Nexstar. Unless they royally piss off a network on a major scale, they're not going to dump their major affiliations. It's a good duopoly filler to be able to have a network and to chart their own course with it. The only churn could be the other groups who want out because their competitors don't want to be afilliated with a network owned by the said competitor.

  22. All the replies above this are spot on, couldn’t say it better. I think the gem of this article is: “As previously reported by The Post, O’Donnell’s predecessor Jeff Glor was making a modest $2 million.” So Jeff did it for $2M, they fired him, signed Norah for $8M for the same result, now have Norah at $3.8M. Seems like Jeff really got screwed.

  23. No. Y&R's 12:30-1:30 slot has been key to its success over the decades. Gets a half hour jump on the other channels starting shows at 1. By 1:30 all the hour shows are in progress so you've got a built in audience at 1:30.

  24. A lot of 'storm chaser' vehicles usually have a screen on an arm attached to the hatchback door to present a forecast outdoors...but they're usually always set to a very vivid mode and they usually use known brand name sets (often weatherproofed) with a very low-profile bezel. This one is a closeout 720p special (this one, specifically, a 24" 720p model with RCA and VGA hookups, and a '3.4 mm headphone output' (!); the brand is called Furrion, which specializes in RV TVs no sensible person would ever consider)...whoever picked out that unit should be fired; that's unacceptable even for one of those back-set monitors that plays a competitor station for decor. Even a damned iPad mini would be better than that POS. Do better, Fox.

  25. WNCN kept Y&R at 4 because WRAL had been carrying it at that time since 1993. If Y&R moved to 1 PM and B&B to 2, I figure that the earlier time zones would still have Y&R at 11 AM and B&B at 1 PM. There are a few stations (Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, and Springfield, MO) that presently carry Y&R at 11:30; they might opt to carry it at noon. I would suspect that CBS would turn it back over to the affiliates at 2:30/1:30.

  27. “Top Story” repeats took the place of overnight reruns of “Today with Hoda and Jenna” that NBC was offering stations. Not every station was carrying the “Today” reruns, but many were. Some stations aren’t running “Top Story” either, including KPRC in Houston, which airs a 2nd run of “Dr. Phil” instead. (The first run airs at 1p.)

  29. Or, y'know, just not base their purchasing decisions on games involving grown men getting concussions and throwing weirdly-shaped objects wrapped in pigskin. I'm sure people in St. Louis would love for someone to do the same with KDNL.

  30. Read on the other board that WYFF is picking up Jennifer Hudson. Likely at 2pm. Not a surprise with them being a Hearst station. They still have another hole with The Good Dish getting cancelled. Wonder if they will finally clear the fourth hour of Today. Doubtful. I also have noticed (slightly off topic) that NBC has quietly started a late night show called “Top Story With Tom Llamas”. When did that premeire?

  31. My entire point here is that we don't know what is going to happen. The claim that "3K is history for WNBC" seems premature as the only thing we know is that the two stations are moving into a shared workspace. Shared workspaces does not equal new studios. Like I said, I hope WNBC does get a new set but there's no evidence at the moment to support that. Only speculation. I haven't forgotten that 30 Rock used to be filled with radio studios. But all of the radio studios that were capable of being transformed into television studios were converted over half a century ago. As for Studio 1A, it used to be a bank and the ceiling in that space, as is true for most ground floor retail space, is a story and half. In fact, the area over homebase didn't have a ceiling above it at all. You could look down from what is now the SPA into Studio 1A. But my aside about construction clearly became a distraction from the fact that neither B&C or NewscastStudio made any mention of WNBC getting a new studio.

  34. My point was that Nexstar would start with moving/buying CW affiliates to stations they would own to make them O&Os For Example, I could see Nexstar selling its MyNetworkTV/Ion affiliations to Fox, Scripps, or someone else to pick up more CW stations (it would be needed if Nexstar wanted to buy WPSG,WTOG,and KBCW from CBS to keep them CW O&Os) then I could see Nexstar getting rid of its weaker FOX stations after that.

  36. I know many people dislike Chuck Todd. With the show being moved to 1:00 from 4:00, and now moving from cable to streaming, I have to wonder if this is another step that may Todd may eventually leave MTP and NBC News all together.

Mornings, Afternoons, Evenings, overnights, special reports, breaking news, politics, sports, protest coverage, filling in on holidays, campaign trail, press briefings and more. She carry’s that network and she knows it. Chris deserves this more than anyone IMO, and don’t forget, she does all that while being 65 years old! --- Chris Jansing Reports premiers on Thursday, May 26th.

  39. This might sound weird but what if MSNBC had a different person host the 9PM ET hour every night permanently? My idea: Mondays: The Rachel Maddow Show Tuesdays: Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross Wednesdays: Alex Wagner Thursdays: Velshi with Ali Velshi Fridays: Someone from the weekend such as, Ayman Mohyeldin, Alicia Menendez or Katie Phang. Each host would bring a different perspective and different set of topics with them, it would make each night a must watch for MSNBC viewers as they’d only see them once a week. (with the exception of those who have weekends shows.) They could even have Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle team up and bring back Velshi & Rhule on Thursdays if they wanted, the options are endless and would create a strong, stable competitor that viewers would love. Just an idea. Let’s hope they don’t mess this up.
