  1. The best is Dateline NBC. Their set was like a command center.

  2. ShopHQ was killed ASAP, and they plan to re-launch the station as it was this month, with its pre-RNN and ShopHQ management intact (see comments). Right now it seems to be carrying a simulcast of their Vuit channel, including newscasts and skycams, and extended newscasts will be naturally a part of the new KIKU schedule.

  3. Good! CNN is a shell of its former self. It desperately needs new leadership.

  4. I highly agree, he may never work at another broadcast network or cable channel ever again.

  5. WDTN set from 1994-2005 updated in 2002. The weather center area was used till 2012.

  6. Follow up. Allen completed the KIKU acquisition on Monday (1/31). Don't know when they'll get rid of the endless infomercials they currently air. But the sooner they get that new programming on air, the better...

  7. Today is a great day for everyone at CNN and News as a whole. Stunned? Does Brian seriously have to keep this crap up? He needs to stop letting Jeff Zucker control him. Best of luck to WarnerMedia in the hiring for this, a solid external investigation to really find the problems would be a great thing for the network. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Jeff. Let's hope he remains unemployed.

  8. This doesn't surprise me and I actually seen this coming because I've been getting notifications from the KDKA app saying "FIRST ALERT WEATHER" on them. I even got one this morning when the NWS issued the winter storm watch. The execution and timing of it was perfect as we do have a modest winter storm coming, so I'll give them props for that. And the graphics do look really good. Although I do wish they used the lighter blue version of the logo that their sister station in San Francisco are using, but nevertheless, it does look good.

  9. They first started using the superhero graphics on a part-time basis last season. I don't mind the driver design, but the overall cartoon look just feels weird on a sports broadcast.

  10. Shouldn't Wheel/Jeopardy have its own thread instead of taking over this one?

  11. If there's one thing I hate and really wish would die its the over-saturated generic use of "First Alert Weather." Come up with something more original.

  12. Basically just CBS and whoever is running WWL right now, some of whom were there under Belo ownership. By the way, we should definitely have a logo discussion thread.

  13. Given the group's new focus on the CBS News Streaming stuff, and that other stations had dedicated CBSN studio space, perhaps they plan on turning it into a proper studio for CBS News Chicago, or a kind of "hub" for the entire CBS News Streaming operation. If you look at WMAQ's old setup, it's not like you need much to accomplish this. Basically a desk in front of the windows and some lights. They might have to buy some new lights, though. I know they've been holding on to and using fixtures from McClurg Court even on the current news set when it went in.

  14. “Report: Jeff Zucker Recently Approached Gayle King About Hosting CNN’s 9 PM Hour.” I just can’t envision it, not at all. It really looks like CNN doesn’t know what to do with the 9PM hour. It would’ve been a good deal for Gayle as she could’ve lived closer to family apparently, but I’d rather have her at CBS. Jeff Zucker looks even more desperate. https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/report-jeff-zucker-recently-approached-gayle-king-about-hosting-cnns-9-pm-hour/499147/

  15. These chain owners are more concerned about the ownership cap rather than signal quality. In fact, the worse reception, the better, since that means more retrans money with cable, and in smaller markets, there will be less outrage.

  16. I guess Micah Ohlman can only work so many shifts. He's been a main anchor at KTLA for a dozen years. In a while he'll almost be in position to approach Hal Fishman status.
