  1. They should have just put Chris Jansing at 9AM. I personally don’t think The 11th Hour is the right time slot for Stephanie. I guess we’ll see what changes they’ll be making to fit her style. Not to mention Joe & Mika anchoring from a shared home studio in Florida (started before COVID) all while Willie sits there patiently waiting his turn. Can’t keep talking about doing News but then never do it…

  3. Sorry if I confused you all. Yes time and temp should be there between 7 AM and 9 AM. Not everyone is walking around with their phone constantly. It can be done right and not be obtrusive. The problem with WOIO is their current incarnation of their logo is too big on the right side of the screen. Time/temp can't fit with CBS Mornings new graphics.

  4. Yeah that logo was from the Raycom years...questionable graphics at times for sure..but a flat version of the 80's logo would really be a nice touch for 70 yrs. Great station, got a ton of experience as an intern there

  5. And prior to that, many years at WABC as a producer, executive producer and assistant ND. Great to see someone from inside who comes from a local news background take the reigns of the owned station group.

  6. MP King, a member of YouTube, uploaded a KSLA newscast close from 1984 which features a vocal tag at the end. You can view the news close starting at 0:05. But wait, there's more. Here is a KSLA news open from 1986 using the Jake Pittman theme which you can see at 3:39.

  10. As of this writing, WJMN is now gone from YouTube TV, as-is the generic feed of CBS they had up the past few days, with WZMQ now available on that platform.

  11. “Report: Jeff Zucker Recently Approached Gayle King About Hosting CNN’s 9 PM Hour.” I just can’t envision it, not at all. It really looks like CNN doesn’t know what to do with the 9PM hour. It would’ve been a good deal for Gayle as she could’ve lived closer to family apparently, but I’d rather have her at CBS. Jeff Zucker looks even more desperate. https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/report-jeff-zucker-recently-approached-gayle-king-about-hosting-cnns-9-pm-hour/499147/

  12. Here's a WRGB newscast from 1983, when it was a CBS affiliate. It uses the same theme as KOA-TV (now KCNC) in Denver and WNGE (now WKRN) in Nashville had around.

  13. Wow. I'm not as up to speed as a lot of the members of this board, but how many total people are watching this newscast on the #4 station in market #180? And, this is the same station owner that for years has done a news & weather cast for the Caribbean from Erie. This is the home of the weatherman with the toucan. Doing news remotely for Marquette from Erie should be a breeze! They'll just hire a Marquette-based reporter or two, buy enough equipment to get by, and do the rest of the newscast from Erie. That clip, for what it was, isn't half bad. They had one report on compulsive gambling in PA and a local report via Zoom on redevelopment of a park.

  17. Recall that Khemlani's charge was to cut costs across the division. It would not surprise me if this were a sly but effective tactic by CBS in Norah's contract renegotiation to suggest to her that she is dispensable, in an effort to counter her request for more money.

  18. But with everyone having wx apps on their phone which are more accurate for the temp thanks to location tracking etc, is time/temp really necessary on the screen? Or in the days of cleaner, simpler looks is it just clutter that can be jettisoned?

  19. I expected it to be bit-starved because of hosting WSTR's 1.0 signal...but it actually uses more bandwidth than the MeTV sub on 5.2, same with WISN. You'd think a channel which consists mainly of still graphics and mainly still close-ups of jewelry wouldn't need so much bandwidth (WISN thankfully has a 12 Mbps picture on the main channel).

  22. I have to wonder if there was something egregious that WJMN (or Nexstar) did that killed the affiliation. Excessive pre-emptions? Co-branding violations? It seems that some of the Nexstar stations test to see how far they can go to "locally sponsor" things like college or NFL games. That right there could have triggered this, especially if it was done over and over again....and if CBS warned them of the consequences...

  23. Love that they restored the footage quality. I like how dim the old lighting looks, everything in the HD era appears so washed out these days. Back to Today (1952) Im surprised news tickers were utilized this early into broadcast tv.

  36. Longtime Colorado Sports Anchor Les Shapiro has entered hospice after an unsuccessful battle with cancer. Les had been Sports Director at at WEEK-TV, CBS 4 Denver, et. al. Having spent most of his career in beautiful Colorado, Les was a kind, humble man who loved his job, spending many more years on the radio than anything. Please keep his family in your thoughts during this challenging time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Shapiro

  37. Since CBS Mornings debut, there are new graphics but WOIO has no time/temp anymore. I would assume they need to get the chyron to reposition that to match the new graphics. Very annoying to watch when you want a quick look at the temperature. I guess they'll fix it just in time for CBS' new morning program retool in 2024.

  38. Even if I were to agree or not with Dr. Oz on the issues, if I were a station manager dropping his show would be justified. The last thing any station would want to have on their watch is the appearance of partiality towards one candidate in such a critical race - and certainly an open U.S. Senate seat in a penultimate swing state (one that called the ENTIRE presidential election for Trump in 2016 and for Biden in 2020) fits that category to a T. Of course, his fans in New York City may complain over WNYW's decision to drop him all because of exurban Pike County, but bucolic Shohola Falls folks are just as entitled to have a say amongst the voters and is as much an informed electorate as the likes of Brooklyn, Westchester, Paramus and Long Island, and the last thing Dr. Oz's opponents want - whether it's a former US Ambassador to Denmark under Trump (Carla Sands), an unconventional, gritty Lieutenant Governor under Wolf (John Fetterman), a rightish businessman from the Philadelphia suburbs (Jeff Bartos) or a leftish baby-faced congressman from outside Pittsburgh (Conor Lamb) - is for their right to a fair and level playing field to be undermined over whatever free airtime Dr. Oz would have gotten had his show been allowed to continue airing in PA and beyond, especially given that one of the candidates recently dropped out in the wake of a domestic abuse case and custody dispute rolled into one giant burrito. At least until The Good Dish goes into production and begins airing, every station that carries Dr. Oz needs to find a way to fill the time slot, even if it means throwing on Sinclair must-runs, TEGNA's Daily Blast Live, Shepherd's Church out of Arkansas, ancient I Love Lucy tapes collecting dust, or even random infomercials from Cindy Crawford, Emeril Lagasse or that Sam Davis guy from Humana. As for outside of PA, the need for replacements is not as dire, but it's hard to imagine the schedules not changing anywhere Dr. Oz is on the air. In Houston, KRIV has him on at 1:00pm with a repeat on KTXH the following day (or Monday if it's a Friday show) at 8:00am before The 700 Club. The onus would especially be on stations like KRIV and other Fox O&Os like WNYW, not only because of the obvious media exposure Dr. Oz is going to get on Fox News, but also given the history of some of Fox's stations (including WWOR, which itself was subjected to intense FCC scrutiny due to the impropriety-ridden RKO General scandal of yore) with regards to equal airtime and fairness provisions. It's not even the biggest headache going for them - KRIV also carries Wendy Williams at 10:00am, and there's no telling whether or not her show goes on given her own health issues there. Throw in Extra (whose host Billy Bush is from the politically (in)famous family with Houston ties) at 12:30pm, Judge Judy now relegated to highly-rated reruns at 4, the fallout from Ellen leaving the air (and however those effects go beyond KHOU) and Kelly Clarkson potentially going to KPRC next year depending on whether or not Graham breaks up and whether or not KPRC becomes an NBC O&O, and it's fair to say KRIV is going to have its hands full going forward. Expect a very busy and productive January in Miami at NATPE.

  39. The blackout would also affect border states and markets, so New York, Baltimore, Buffalo, Youngstown, Charleston, Wheeling-Steubenville, Binghamton, Elmira will also be affected if Sony decided to just blackout the state rather than put the show on hiatus, which is now pointless since it's not 1995 and his website, YouTube and OWN (which carries his reruns) exist. Suffice to say, he's handed Sony a major headache to deal with.
