It's quite a stretch to compare impressions of Newsnation and Real America's Voice (which is cringeworthy just to type). Newsnation is a facts-based news effort making an appeal to ALL potential viewers from an unbiased position (that we now know has shifted center-right). RAV is explicitly targeting hard-right viewers with explicitly biased programming, essentially giving viewers what they want to hear. Yes, them having more impressions is indisputable. But one is offering apples and casting a wide net, the other is offering oranges and shooting fish in a barrel. "Why doesn't anybody like my artisan cookie while Miller Lite is selling so well?" Also, Live PD is not "the only thing possible that could ever save NewsNation". We get that the show is missed, and yes, it's viewership numbers were indisputable. But unless they make it the Live PD channel, one or two hot hours out of a week's worth of programming does not make a smash hit network. Also- production costs? Which carries more liability- Dan Abrams behind a desk in a dark room or a full camera crew riding around with on duty cops? Does anyone think Nexstar wants to spend that money or bear that responsibility?

This was my choice and it was a hard one because I love my Today in NY family so much! Not seeing them everyday will be the hardest part, but it’s time to get more sleep and embark on some new adventures. The great news is I will still be part of the @nbcnewyork extended family. You will still see me popping up on Today in NY and New York Live sharing stories about all the things that make New York so special. (NJ and CT too)! So consider this my two weeks notice commuters. If you don't like something you can just choose to watch something else. There's limitless choice out there for you. There have been much worse newscasts than NewsNation, both in the past and currently, and it's just a plain exaggeration to say it is 'the worst of all time'. Comparing a national cable network to a guy's daily podcast just isn't fair in any metric, which is why no reputable ratings agency would do so. And I'm just going by this forum and the general public; RAV is an ugly and low-quality partisan product that I wouldn't even be able to enjoy if they were a straight news network, and the lack of buzz or talk about it outside of 'alright, here's what Steve said on his podcast' today check-ins that some poor intern has to grind through proves it.

Yeah I’m guessing couldn’t use the main set because the video walls needed some extra support and / or newsroom empty. Odd that the graphics were 2 generations behind but maybe that studios control room had an old character generator. Maybe they hauled in the old background and desk when the new set was built as some sort of backup shot for skeleton crew. Or maybe that newsroom area was untouched just off camera although the idle camera behind makes it seem it’s in a studio.

Just an FYI, the segment is called "Tell Us Your Story" and it normally lasts for the majority of the hour. Glen & Ray do a phenomenal job with these long-formed, detailed interviews. So DEFINITELY a must listen.

The date in question was a Sunday. The Sunday Morning studio would have been staffed and ready for that day's broadcast.

He was definitely in front of a green screen or a printed background at the beginning, but if you jump to the 1:14:00-ish mark (post-press conference), you'll see that Dan is coming from the Sunday Morning set. SOMETHING kept him from being on the main Evening News set.

(2003) CBS News Coverage of Saddam Hussein's capture. Interestingly, it looks like Dan Rather is reporting from something similar to the early 90s set of the CBSEN. Even more odd is that in the beginning portion, the mid 90s red/yellow L3's are being used before transitioning to the usual blue graphics.

YES! Broadcast syndication fees can be enormous and if you're not yielding a strong enough rating to recoup station loss then you might as well run news since you have salaried employees there (anyway). Most stations get away without hiring additional staffing. The state of linear TV is NOT good in case you've been living under a rock ..

I would love to see KCNC's new graphic in the Black and Yellow KDKA-TV look.
