  1. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2021/8/6/breaking-news-gray-no-jab-no-job Gray is mandating vaccinations for all new hires. They didn't mention it for existing employees yet. First TV group to do so.

  3. Regardless if they are leaving the business.. half a dozen reporters have left on their own in the last six months. Walking away from a Top 5 reporter job, means something there sucks. WPVI hasnt had a single reporter leave in like 5 years.

  4. That's because he wants much of the viewership to be from the always dwindling ammount of cable subscribers. Basically, he's acting like Randy Marsh in that South Park episode when he bought the town's Blockbuster store....

  5. Nah, WCAU needs something fresh at this point. The mix of 360 for the teases and LA Groove for everything else isn't cutting it for me.

  6. That looks like something some teen kid Wikipedia editor who has been blocked 19 times with 17 sockpuppets came up with trying to make up a station. That barely-visible text thinness is the polar opposite worst from WJZ's Fat Helvetica.

  8. Not actually a bad open, IMO, but the logo issue is worth mentioning. They went to the Octagon 4, then a plainer "4" (not the same as before) while painting the set beige. Then News 4 New York was launched with the "zig-zag" 4 logo before settling on the modified logo a few months later. Through all of this, promotions retained the 1970s "4" logo next to the Proud N, despite the rather radical logo changes used for news. They did not drop that logo for the new one (the revised die-cut 4) until 1981.

  10. First thought - is this intentionally tacky? The way they have the anchors pose leads me to wonder... But - I have to be honest, other than the creepy eyes - there is at least an EFFORT to produce a unique opening here. With cleaner typography (Script font for anchor names) and a "KISS" approach to some of the graphics - it would improve quite a bit. I actually like the way the words are rendered within the environments - and Northern Michigan has plenty of beautiful spaces to use as inspiration. I'd also invest in better music and a professional VO. So yes...it's bad. But there's also some effort here that I can appreciate. Compared to say...Scripps, there was certainly way more effort and work that went into developing this open.

  11. Sad news from WABC-TV News Director Rehan Aslam — he announced publicly today doctors recently removed a tumor from his head. The pathology report determined that is a glioblastoma, a very aggressive type of brain cancer. He continues treatment later this week at Sloan Kettering. Aslam just joined WABC-TV in May of this year as VP & News Director after six years in management positions at sister station KTRK-TV in Houston.

  12. Perhaps that’s the future of WNBC having people anchor newscasts alone. Viewership isn’t what it’s supposed to be and the days of views getting used to teams like Chuck, Sue, Janice and Len I think are basically over. I don’t think you need two anchors at 11pm as it’s only a 35 minute newscast.
