  1. So are they ditching the stupid names for newscasts and going back to “news at 11”? And yes.. WBNS and WTHR have been cratered by tegna. Both stations are awful now.

  2. Last time WXIA tried that was in the 90s and at that time it didn't sit well with Atlanta viewers

  3. It just isn't a thread about a Tegna station without complaining about C Clarity.

  4. Right; Morning Rush and Up Late are simply "Morning News" and "News at 11" respectively. Now if WSB can drop that stupid "WSB Tonight" and call their late news the "Nightbeat" once again...

  5. If the term of the channel sharing arrangement (CSA) expires and the parties decide not to renew, then the the spectrum-less station would be free to form a new CSA with a new station. ______ What I forgot to mention yesterday was 12 years ago was the anniversary of the DTV transition of 2009. That was when all the full power analog signals had to be turned off. Today is the 13th. So next month on July 13, the remaining low-power and translator stations have to turn off their analog signals. It shouldn't be any analog nothing at this point. But the FCC has made a list of about 300+ analog LP/TXs that have yet to file for a digital construction permit, and they're at risk of losing their license if they don't do so. They have also reminded permittees of those unbuilt LP-permits to finish constructing its signals by the July 13 deadline, or ask for a waiver to file for an extension of time.

  6. Can any station insider there explain why so many reporters are leaving? Is it that bad a shop? Pay? No one leaves the other stations. And… the lack of strong reporters is noticeable. A lot of B team folks.. no stars other than Ukee.

  7. Looks like WXIA is trying to match its motion graphics with the graphics/branding package done by local firm MATCHSTIC (CLICK HERE). That way, 11Alive could break away from the conformity of the Tegna T18 animation package. BRILLIANT!!!!

  8. It really makes me real sad that local broadcasters taken their own lives whether they suffering from depression, stress, or thoughts of suicide. We lost many of our favorite local personalities due to suicide and I'm not going to name name's out of respect to the deceased. I said it before and I'm going to say again, If you know someone you love (Family and/or Friends) who's suffering from depression and have thoughts of suicide, please call National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. They're here to help.

  9. Yeah JCB and I talked about it briefly in the private chats last night and I honestly don't think that only offering one network and probably not changing the non-live sports content is worth the $23 a month tbh. This is a latest case of Sinclair getting too greedy yet again

  10. Could we see Tegna stations tweaking their graphics soon?

  11. Doesn't the "Alive" branding go back to the Combined era?

  12. Not to mention we're talking about one or two channels that have virtually no real programing outside of live sports.

  13. I think once they get new management at the top of the O&O division then work can be done to fix the individual stations. After what came out earlier this year about Peter Dunn and co esp in relation to how they wanted KYW run, it shows just how deep a hole they're in. I believe they just recently hired a new GM and they certainly have their work cut out for them. It seemed like Brien Kennedy had a good vision for the station going forward but was thwarted by his bosses and ended up leaving as a result (and who could blame him). You can tell the station is hurting for revenues given their recent set "refresh". I'm just guessing, but given the number of other CBS O&Os that have adopted what was originally just WCBS' set, they could get a good deal on it if they wanted a new set, but they chose to just replace all the monitors and Duratrans on what is essentially a 14 year old set. Yes the basic structure and elements of it have been around since they moved in to that building. Only the desk has been fully replaced since then. What they may have to do is beef up the sales department and start selling segments and/or launch a lifestyle show just to generate cash to weather the storm. Stations have recovered from much much worse including this one whose real dark age ran for a good 13 years including the entire 90's into the early 2000s.

  14. C Clarity isn't so bad if stations don't use the a capella cuts of it. C Clarity's biggest failing is its lack of versatility and range. You don't have many options of music to use. I'm still not a fan of the anchor reading the open where a professional VO normally would. It lacks authority and sounds too casual. Also, who decided an anchor 2-shot with a lonely spiral staircase going to nowhere in between them was a good look? From that angle at least it looks like space they didn't know what to do with so they stuck a staircase there. I do like how they incorporated it into transitions, though.

  15. They are probably doing it there first since they have watched WXIA drop all the way to 4th place. I think the logo needs to change though...

  16. Hopefully any of it left rubs off on the rest of the group. Still a travesty how WBNS and WTHR were swallowed up by them. As for WXIA, yes it is a nice improvement.

  17. Why does this feel like something from Dispatch?

  18. Not bad! Not bad at all! And Yes! This fuckin' C Clarity has got to go. How about a custom theme with the NBC chimes? Or, any of the syndicated NBC affiliate news packages?

  19. Meta question… the banner at the top of this thread has said it’s about to become “coming and goings” for like two years now. Is that ever going to happen?

  20. Honestly, it will probably not be noticed by most viewers being so subtle. It makes you wonder why go through the expense if there is no real return.

  21. No. Not for at least 3 years because of software upgrades. The whole point of the anchor reading the open is to make it sound casual. For the most part, younger viewers don't relate to the traditional newscasts...which is why I'm extremely disappointed in WXIA for killing off Morning Rush and Up Late. In fact, I think their morning show is worse now.

  22. Unfortunately, a lot of the speculators out there have seized on the Clinton angle in regard to Mr. Sign. Very sad. I feel badly for his kids, now having to grow up without their father.

  25. I doubt it. Tegna is very dedicated to the T18 look. This seems like a one-off for WXIA because they wanted something different. A few stations might decide they want it, but I don't expect it to become a group-wide thing.

  26. I know this thread is about WXIAs graphics, but indulge me for a bit. 11Alive is a legacy brand, I get it...but come on, its 2021! The Alive branding went out in the late 80s! Off the top of my head, KOCO in OKC and WPTA in Fort Wayne used the Alive branding in the 80s. Is it time to ditch the 11Alive branding? I have family in Atlanta. Of course, they are deeply dedicated to WSB, but I never hear them refer to WXIA as "11Alive." Always channel 11 or NBC.
