  1. The folks that run the "keepmystation.com" webpage should at least know that WGN is NOT a "My Network" affiliate.....

  2. I don't know whether to post this here or in the international thread, but here's a short intro from KCBS as seen from South Korean broadcaster KBS from 1987.

  3. Some Hampton Roads news clips from September 1995 (as well as January 1997), worth noting is that it features the last days of TV 3 News and the first of NewsChannel 3 over at WTKR:

  4. Not sure if this should go here or the Graphics Knockoff thread... Hubbard's WDIO in Duluth has a very close resemblance to the KOIN graphics.... Slight tweaks but definitely the motions are there.... Weather graphics are definitely the KOIN variety

  6. The only reason WISH ended up with CW in the first place was because Tribune had too much on their plate at the time when they stole CBS from WISH and LIN/Media General. Now that Nexstar took over WISH and they ended up being spun off to DuJuan McCoy when Nexstar traded up to WTTV/WXIN, it's basically a news-intensive independent station. The gravy train may never come and the best option may be to opt for must-carry status to get themselves back on satellite.

  7. A big showdown is brewing between DISH and Nexstar. Both sides are already in full PR campaign mode. Here's the DISH press release: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/nexstar-media-group-threatens-largest-local-station-blackout-in-tv-history-according-to-dish-301181053.html

  8. WISH is also not available on YouTubeTV or Hulu Live. It seems that the cable companies are the only ones carrying DuJuan McCoy's stations. It seems the smaller owners are just as bad than the mega-ones with the blackouts, but they have to deal with the mega-companies since they have little to no clout to negotiate on a larger scale.

  9. So Nexstar and Dish might be the next one. https://506sports.com/forum/index.php?topic=23469.0 This would leave Charlotte viewers without WJZY, WMYT, WSOC AND WAXN.

  10. Interesting. Probably just a coincidence, but he is the second "Politically Speaking" host to have originally come from the network to San Diego and then now...return to New York? He follows Alex Presha, who also came from NBC News and is now at ABC News. Perhaps Danny will chart that same path.

  11. I had to search through his Instagram for this to remember when, but I found instances in 2018 (e.g. August, December). They weren't any major timeslots (seems like it was an occasional weekend morning slot), but he was on-air nonetheless.

  12. Just spit-ballin' off the top of my head, since it's 2am. Others can chime in with more concrete facts. Honestly, it's probably just easier to figure out when stations have had broadcasts in the 4pm hour, period. WMAQ, for example, flip-flopped between 4 and 4:30 for most of this century before expanding to the full hour in 2016. WBBM, on the other hand, was fairly consistent with a 4:30 newscast, abandoning the hour entirely in like 2004 or so. Both stations maintained 4:30 shows through the 90's, instead ditching 6pm newscasts for a time, as syndicated fare gave them a more competitive alternative to the juggernaut entry on WLS. Whenever both were absent from 4pm in the early 2000's, WLS would tout their exclusivity in their open. WGN entered the race in like 2014, and WFLD just this year. All 4 stations air an hour at 4, with WBBM being the only holdout, but Judge Judy (even if they continue with reruns next year) surely rates better than if they did news.

  15. It's keeping the momentum going at WKRN for sure. They had a good thing with the prior look, and this one works just as well. It's a great package that will work for virtually any Nexstar station, since it's not tied to a particular network's logos or styling. Some of the supers need work, but that's a producer thing so they don't cram too many words into the top line, and the "auto-squish" kicks in. While I like WSMV's look overall, it's maybe a little too flashy for them. If they were CBS or FOX, I'd be ok with it. The packages that WGCL and WHNS have work well for them. Unfortunately WTVF came down with the Scripps-itis. I don't know how they're doing these days, but it can't be good news for them, presentation-wise. And WZTV is your run-of-the-mill Sinclair station, J-Bar, Code Red and all.....

  16. Two (no pun intended) things 'KRN done right: brought back the Helvetica "2" (from the WNGE era, their first call letter change) and getting the KOIN6 GFX.

  17. Nexstar will not being purchasing NewsNet. NewsNet has a tight 30 minute newscast all originating in Cadillac Michigan, relying on AP and other wire services. It's not leveraging anything that News Nation can't. News Nation can leverage thousands of stations (with any investment) to report news worthy of national attention. NewsNet, on the other hand, relies on the resources of AP, and is never ever having an exclusive. Basically, NewsNet is advert filler.

  18. What exactly would Nexstar be acquiring in such a transaction? NewsNet has a staff of what, like 15 people of ...questionable qualifications and capabilities, and a cute little broadcast facility in the middle of Michigan. Not gonna happen, just let NewsNet die; the money has to dry up at some point.

  20. I love how you just write stuff like that without anything to back it up. According to the lawsuit he filed against AT&T, DirecTV stopped paying retransmission fees as soon as Circle City bought the stations. If true, wanting to get the money the previous owner got for the same stations seems like being a good businessman to me, not "a greedy idiot."
