  1. Too bad they can't do the decent and respectable thing and remove Pam Zekman's bio from the web site instead of trying to exploit her name/work/image.

  2. KTVK (1986–89) WTSP (1989–91) KPNX (1991–) From the article on her arrival at KPNX: Ford said she has been looking for another job for about nine months. "It wasn't working out here (at WTSP)," she said, adding that ownership problems "have made it a really unhappy shop." She was apparently headed to Dallas if not for KPNX reaching out! t also is worth noting that the view from Tampa was that, when Cole and Barresi left, it ended her dreams of replacing Sheryl Browne at WTSP. (She was replaced there by Sue Zelenko.)

  3. They are slowly hiring back. The layoffs are an excuse to get rid of expensive talent. They are then replaced with cheaper folks. for example.. pam zekman who was let go, was likely making 400-500K. this new chick from dallas is probably coming in at 120k. they still save money all the O and O’s are slowly hiring back.

  6. After seeing it for the first time online nearly 15 years ago, they're finally using the "Kitebox" logo on at least the mic flags. They're looking pretty good. Waiting for the weather graphics to get updated to match...

  7. Apparently WITI was one of the very last stations in the country still using Opus, the homebrew newsroom software that Tribune scraped together during bankruptcy. iNEWS may be a time warp back to 1995, but I guess at least it gets the job done.

  9. On the other end of the spectrum, here is Downs in his most famous role, besides being host of Today in the 60s, he was the host of a game show that was later on brought back, but with Alex Trebek of Jeopardy as host in the 80s. Notice the cheesy sounding organ music too. As far as i know, he was the only Today host or panelist to have game show hosting duties.

  10. The late Arlene Francis on the original Home show (1954-57) on NBC (the late Hugh Downs was the announcer): this particular broadcast (a partial one; the show ran for an hour daily) was 30 years before the other (similar) show of that name premiered on ABC in 1988 (that ABC one would go to 1994)...
