  1. Well, he and Fahey Flynn will be reunited in heaven again. What a life he lived. RIP.

  2. The set is great. They've succeeded in making the studio look much larger than before—the old FX-designed set felt very cramped, especially coming from the large set they had back in the old building at 1001 Van Ness. Yeah, some of the light bars are weird, but I love the use of the roof camera showing the Embarcadero, though the shot they were using at 5pm was really blown out with all of the white port buildings along the waterfront being lit by the setting sun. I didn't catch any of the primetime shows tonight but betting it looks much better at night. Also, it is kinda nice to see both anchors in the studio, complying with physical distancing recommendations—I think KRON is the first Bay Area station to do that, with everyone else splitting people up between the studio and newsroom or at home. But, the graphics are head-scratchingly all over the place. The opens are the same as before (but with new music), the lower thirds are new but look terrible with text set in a thin weight of Avenir, and the weather graphics are the most Nexstar-ish with the headers set in bold Montserrat. I don't think Nexstar leads the way with any of their standardized news graphic packages, but at least they're cohesive. Unless they're taking some strange phased launch approach, I was holding out hope we'd see something a bit more unified for KRON here. Aerial might be generic, but Instant Classics had to go. It's been around since 1995—that music is almost as old as I am.

  3. My main comment on the open (besides being toooooo busy) is that are you going to have to update it anytime one of the reporters in it leaves? With folks coming and going, it could be a “new month, new open” situation...

  4. Joel Daly and Fahey Flynn are reunited and anchoring the news in heaven. In them memory and in tribute to Joel and Fahey. RIP Joel and Godspeed. Vintage Atlanta TV News from 1992.

  5. Exactly, they don't need a new set...because they practically still have a set that is "new"...at least it looks new. I could see new graphics coming eventually, but even with that I think KFOR looks fine as it is. I think KFOR should keep things exactly the way they are.

  8. It's....fine? It doesn't look particularly polished, but that's to be expected from KRON. The lack of a video wall in the outgoing set felt like a somewhat surprising omission given that it was built in what, 2014, so I'm sure they'll have some fun with more chances for different presenting opportunities. It feels rather small market, but KRON is a big market station that's operated like a small market one after all. Timelapse:

  10. Not sure if it's just my system/internet, and I'm positive it's a fluke, but my Hulu Live channel listings currently have what I think is every CBS affiliate in the country listed (Local affiliate is KVLY Fargo) Not that I'm complaining- This is a TV news junkie's dream come true! Anyone else hear/see of this happening before?

  11. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that although if we see widespread civil unrest following the election regardless of the outcome should we expect to see wall to wall coverage?

  12. Looks like FOX11 will have regular segments during sweeps on Christine's 30th anniversary at the station. During her tenure she has always anchored the 10pm news....paired with the late Chris Harris, John Beard, Carlos Amezcua, Jeff Michael and now Elex Michaelson. She now anchors the 5 and the 6 in addition to the 10. Christine is definitely one of the underrated and most talented female anchors in LA. She handles breaking news with grace and aplomb. She's one of my top 3 female anchors in LA behind Colleen Williams and Pat Harvey. I have included a link on her FB page that discusses more. Couldn't find anything on the FOXLA site yet. Also, slightly related. PM WX Anchor Rick Dickert celebrated his 30th at KTTV this week as well.

  14. I expect after Election Day there will be wall to wall coverage because with all the absentee voting going on we will not know the outcome by 11PM Tuesday.

  15. I did say in the past on here that Nexstar would treat KFOR like KXAN considering they're the only ones within close proximity to Irving with a functional news department (in terms of large markets; yes Abilene, Wichita Falls, Waco and Tyler all have functional news departments and are close to DFW but all of those aforementioned markets are small in comparison to OKC and Austin) I don't think the Nexstar NBC package would be appropriate for a market the size of OKC but as we've seen with Denver and St. Louis (both larger than OKC) anything is possible and they do have plenty of options as you've indicated. But the part of the post I put in bold is quite interesting. I don't think KFOR necessarily needs a new set what I figured they would change out before they even thought about giving KFOR a new set would be new weather graphics and we all know how much people like @MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie has been harping about KFOR to get a new weather graphics system (which is understandable considering how dated they are; they are the only holdover from the original 444 East Britton Road Building and clearly doesn't blend too well with the 2017 pkg) Considering how reporters are tagging out as "News 4" instead of "Oklahoma's News 4" I wouldn't be shocked to see them rebrand to News 4 (either that or if WREG doesn't retire the "NewsChannel 3" moniker they could revert back to "NewsChannel 4" so I think odds are better that you'll have a rebrand than a new logo

  17. I haven't watched much local news in a while. So I only just saw KRON's opens recently for the first time. Are they from a generic package? Maybe a uniform Nexstar package? Or are they unique to KRON because I really love them and the way they use scenes of the Bay Area. It's very slick and modern. Which is quite contrary to KRON's actual production quality the last couple of years. The new studio looks good. Those are a lot of screens which they can definitely use in many different ways. I'll miss Instant Classics. It's iconic and KRON. I feel it's better than the generic music every other station uses. Which, to be honest, sound more dated and tired.

  23. Any photos of any of these spaces you can share? Or know where I could find some? Would love a preview. The blue is quite awful! I don't mind it on the newsroom ceiling but it is too much in the studio

  25. No. WTVD is far more distinctive. In fact about it, the new KRDO L3 is more of a knock-off of WTVDs.

  26. I'll give them credit for being original in creating the gfx, instead of just "copying" what others are doing. I'll also give them credit for not going to the other extreme of being anemic like Scripps or Tegna. I'll speak especially to the 10pm open. That has way too much going on in a short space of time. If they want to go with that style of news open, they should try to stick with one or two transition patterns...instead of using everything in the software to animate the B-roll of the reporters. And frankly the slogan just gets lost in those transitions. I do, however, like the L3s. If they can re-work the opens and use fewer transition styles, then I think this would be alright. But tbh, the previous music and gfx actually worked really well. Kinda disappointed they replaced that with this. Counterpoint has a unique sound--and I think KRDO should've stayed with it.

  27. Since the coronavirus I've noticed he's been on Monday through Friday and with special editions of the Situation Room on both Saturday and Sunday. So yes basically every day he works. This could also be due to the election as well.

  33. Huh. That temporary setup is pretty unique. Two separate desks with a space in the middle? Can't recall I've ever seen that before and actually kind of like it. Obviously it's for social distancing, but it's different enough that it's fresh.

  37. A worker was killed and two others were trapped on the tower while performing maintenance work on WJTC's broadcast tower in Robertsdale, Alabama. This was a tower crew hired to do the work and not station employees. https://weartv.com/news/local/one-dead-two-rescued-in-tv-broadcast-tower-accident-in-baldwin-county https://www.wkrg.com/baldwin-county/sources-three-possibly-stuck-on-tv-tower-in-baldwin-county/ https://www.fox10tv.com/news/accident-on-tv-tower-kills-worker-injures-another/article_7742b336-1307-11eb-96bf-7fc08f3fa94f.html https://mynbc15.com/news/local/television-broadcast-tower-accident-in-robertsdale WJTC is the sister station of WPMI, and co-owned along with WEAR and WFGX in Pensacola. The market is supposed to have a "rescan day" tomorrow as WJTC and WFNA will turn into ATSC 3.0 stations and the existing programming will be sub-channeled onto the others. A very tragic situation indeed, and my personal condolences to the family of the deceased.
