  1. It's quite an upgrade. Makes it feel like a Top 50 market in market 88, where this only puts WCIA further ahead of their competitors (Sinclair: WICS // WRSP Brix: WAND). They put the stick and wood set together in two days. The old set wasn't meant to be in such a tight space, this one seems to be well thought out and feels like an actual studio (complete with an LED light grid and addressable RGB!) It looks good, and is a game changer for sure. I had the opportunity to talk to the set designer and their team is working almost non-stop for Nexstar. I've said it before,

  3. Can you please provide a source for these "indications"? All I see is that Tegna became aware of the licensing issue after the shooting happened. Per the KUSA statement: And per the TVNT site guidelines:

  5. Not really. It's pretty obvious that Fox News has a bias and that there's a certain narrative they're trying to create (Antifa kills Patriot). Hence the healthy skepticism with how they're reporting this story. But I disgress.

  6. I guess graphics could be a possibility, at some point in the coming months, but their set is only 3.5 years old. I'd be shocked if they were working on something. Only one studio is available, and News Nation used it as a temporary newsroom up until a month and a half ago.

  7. What are you talking about? WGN doesn't need a new set....... Their current set is over three years old.

  11. I'm sorry. You want me to do wha!? Take the word of a political commentary talking head!? You must be batsh*t insane. You DO realize that this is a NEWS forum, right? Political punditry is not news and just because FOX News Channel has 'News' in it's name, doesn't mean that it magically passes muster as objective journalism. Jesus.

  12. The peak was definitely during the Applegate/Action News era. While it tested the limits of what was considered journalism. It definitely brought WOIO to a new level of success, along with WKYC rising out of the doldrums for the first time. Romona's return was probably the last major investment, and this was after WKYC couldn't afford her anymore. The same had happened two years before with Tim White. As the Applegate era was drawing to a close, so was the growth of Raycom and eventual merger with Gray. The "Cleveland 19" era was a mistake, it softened the newscasts too mu

  14. I believe that Week 18 is a last resort for the league, but is definitely on the table. This is they’re fault as they were foolish and naive to not think this was going to happen, especially after what happened with MLB.

  15. Tegna and Pinkerton's legal teams will probably settle out of court. The only liability Tegna has is if they knew he wasn't properly licensed and didn't properly notify Denver PD. If anything, that would result in a fine that Tegna can easily manage. The notion that they're going to lose their license over this is absurd and shows absolute ignorance about how all of this stuff works.

  16. Not sure why I feel the need to waste my time chiming in here, but just want to add onto the "you're wrong" group of folks in this thread. Will someone try to throw KUSA/TEGNA into some sort of litigation? Sure, probably. Will a judge immediately throw it out? Of course.

  17. A. Pinkerton is on Dohloff's paycheck, not 9News or TEGNA. B. The FCC is only responsible for broadcast issues, not television staffing issues. You'll notice no FCC ruling has ever been handed down specifying how stations are allowed to conduct hiring processes.

  19. I honestly love Wolf and Anderson but I really wonder if they would be able to breakaway from the yelling panels, return to real news and drop the politics. Erin is/was better at business news. And let's be honest, Chris wouldn't have been moved to primetime if trump didn't win, he's good at arguing, yelling and hyping things up but that's what CNN wanted to increase ratings. I really like the people you mentioned but I don't know if they'll be able to return to real news. Zucker's got to go, the sports division is big money, only a matter of time before he ruins that.

Whether or not they should be, people are pissed at KUSA... check out the comments on any tweet they post. Wondering if this bad PR for them will have viewers watching elsewhere instead. Maybe @ABC 7 Denver has some insight?

  22. Headlines, intro and partial segment of Nuevediario from 9 August 1995, on the day the program became "serious", with new graphics and theme. I have to admit that I've been looking for this footage for a long time: 2 years. So, here it is! (the video also includes snippets from different editions as well) Headlines and "top of the hour" from Sky News Arabia on 13 October 2020. BBC1's Nine O'Clock News from 10 October 1989, with Michael Buerk.

  23. Wait, WGN is getting a new set? I like how the anchors walk along the video wall as they are doing the tease. And I also really like the glass elements behind the anchor desk. The set looks really cool.

  24. I was thinking that, or that he's not allowed at KUSA's studios for quarantine reasons since he is from another market? FTVlive usually reams a station quickly if there's an outbreak in a newsroom, and I don't think WFAA has been singled out for it- but who knows?

  25. There's two ways Gray could go with WOHZ. One would be as a fill-in translator for WOIO/WUAB, but I'm not sure where they'd put it... up north to Lorain or Huron? Remember that WOIO/WUAB has a pretty good translator in Akron, so it wouldn't be needed there. Leaving it in Mansfield seems a bit... weird, as it IS a border market between Cleveland and Columbus (and to some extent, even Toledo to the northwest). The second possibility is... relaunching WOHZ as a semi-satellite of WOIO for Ashland/Mansfield, relaying almost all of WOIO's programming except for a Mansfield-ar

  26. Video I was watching on 9 News' website here, and here, looked pretty clear that he was in a hotel room (electrical outlets in the base of the table lamp, for instance). First video has the shades up, albeit a not a great view of what's outside. One would think that if he was covering from Dallas that he would use WFAA's facilities?

  27. That's the question I'm sure the Denver City Attorney's are going to be asking KUSA about and not only that they should also be asking why Plinterton even had a contract with that vendor knowing that individual wasn't licensed. In any case there's more questions than there are answers at this point (which is to be expected)

  29. That's a good question and likely enough for someone to argue that KUSA is, on some level, culpable given they willing chose to work with a company that may have a questionable past. While no one could have predicted that this incident would occur; if the past troubles of the security company are true; then the possibility exist and a case could be made.

  30. The eyewitness, in my opinion, is credible. He is a Marine veteran who personally witnessed the things he said in the interview. There was nothing hyperbolic whatsoever in the interview. I thought he gave compelling evidence as to the "security guard" and his behavior before and during the murder. Based on what my current understanding of this situation is, I do not believe that KUSA itself is criminally on the hook for anything. That being said, I believe they are still at risk on a civil basis (along with Pinkerton, or whoever actually hired him) if the victim's f

  35. Until there's FCC regulations about TV stations hiring outside security guards, the FCC has no jurisdiction here and no reason to get involved. Let's summarize things here: KUSA/Tegna contracted with Pinkerton to provide a security guard. The vast majority of security guards, whether they be at TV stations, your local mall, a defense contractor, a technology company, or wherever, are outsourced from contractors. The bigger names in this field are companies like Securitas (which owns Pinkerton) and Allied Universal. These contracts typically require some sort of

  38. NFL should’ve went with a 12-game schedule (eliminating inter conference games) and scheduled multiple bye weeks instead. Also, since next week’s Thursday game (KC-Buffalo) is likely being bumped to Sunday, they should move next week’s Green Bay-Tampa Bay game from Sunday 10/18 up three days to Thursday 10/15, since Green Bay has off this week and Tampa Bay played this Thursday, so both teams will be well rested.

The introduction of local news operations at WSYM builds on Scripps’ footprint across Michigan: its three markets reach approximately 81% of the state’s TV households. Scripps also owns WXYZ (ABC) and WMYD (MY Network) in Detroit and WXMI (Fox) in Grand Rapids. WSYM previously aired local news from WILX, the NBC affiliate in Lansing owned by Gray Television. https://scripps.com/press-releases/s

  41. I’ve been watching more CNN over the last week with the crazy state of our nation at this time. Gotta say, the coverage is ridiculous no matter how deserved it might be. It’s become the trump news network and it’s beyond ridiculous how much time they dedicate to every single word he says.

For such a small market station, these guys have their stuff together! Very impressed with their coverage, their local knowledge and their technical knowledge as well. Very youthful mets, as expected in such a small market, but they impress!
