  1. TJ Holmes joining GMA3 as co-anchor starting Monday

  2. This is fantastic. I’ve watched more GMA this year than I have in several years, so I’m not sure how often Amy and TJ were paired before but their dynamic throughout much of this year has been awesome. That said, TJ is good with nearly everyone he’s paired with going back to his CNN days.

  3. Meredith is reeling from the COVID pandemic and it's effects on an already dying magazine industry. They may be worse off than Media General was a decade ago since there may not be a savior in the wings like Warren Buffett to buy away the money-losing print publications. At this point, the company is going to have to cast off their TV stations to keep the lights on for a quarter or two, than it's likely going to end up in bankruptcy, and probably an auction of the remaining assets.

  5. This is where ABC excels in looking to the future. They know how to identify rising stars and put them in a position to be ready to slide into a bigger role. CBS should take note.

  6. Capitol Broadcasting Company is buying WARZ-CD Smithfield-Selma, NC, broadcasting to areas between Raleigh and Goldsboro, for use as an ATSC 3.0 mux for its Raleigh television stations. (The APA allows them to move the transmitter and file needed modification applications, so I suspect that's coming.) And it ain't cheap: they're shelling out $725,000.

  7. "We're On It" was created by consultants SmithGeiger who created the WXMI slogan "Plan On It" and WCAU's "Count On It" as well as the proliferation of the "First Alert Weather" branding. https://www.smithgeiger.com/

  8. They went the same route that KTVI/KPLR went (Using the same graphics package). No surprise they went with this package. I don't think the actual package is bad. It's just we're used to seeing it on small market Fox affiliate and not markets the size of Denver or St. Louis. And I disagree, this isn't close to the rock bottom days of "The Deuce".

  9. I’ve seen local stations across the country run promos taking jabs at that “pre-recorded news from NYC” but it’s kinda cheap/petty to see the anchors do it live in a newscast.

  10. Happy to hear TJ is joining GMA3! Both he and Robach should be the heirs of GMA in my opinion whenever Robin or George decide to move on eventually, they both work great together. New logo on the promo, and I'm guessing new graphics (or slight adjustments) come next week: https://www.instagram.com/p/CFSDNnoBVDY/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

  11. I've said before we're going to have the FOX Colorado network. All will share news to reduce costs.

  12. The deal is done. They closed it out earlier today (9/17).

  13. And we certainly don’t need to rehash every week in between.

  14. I agree at least to avoid going bankrupt because I have a bad feeling Meredith is heading towards that after all of the layoffs they made today. If nothing else I think Meredith has 3 very simple options. Sell the company as is. Spin the TV division off into its own company and maybe do something with it. Do nothing and ultimately declare bankruptcy. We're essentially dealing with a company that was cash strapped before the Pandemic and even more so now. This also further proves that the Time, Inc acquisition was a bad buy

  17. And using an already crappy FOX ripoff of a Tribune Fox package on a CW affiliate. Just in case you didn't think Denver wasn't Market 68, well now you know. We are now back in 2009 when KDVR and KWGN has the worst market share in their history. Hell, even 2009 looked better.

  18. Appears KDVR/KWGN went Nexstar.

  21. Honestly, I like KIRO’s Tonight attempt. Looks clean and simple without being drab. WPXI? Their attempt was good too and yes, the current graphics have serviced WPXI long enough.

  22. Agreed. I talked to an anchor at WFIE who has heard absolutely nothing and they are wondering too. The weather graphics on WFIE - the L3 weather ticker during forecasts - has been updated to the white/Helvetica/blue to match WMC and others. So maybe they are going that route long term?

  26. Nexstar is pumping money and new sets into all their markets. Its refreshing. WBNS is unwatchable now. Literally. Thats a story in itself. Im not alone on this, right? 10-15 years ago they were incredible. High energy music, graphics, top tier talent. Looked like a top 20 station. The light and fluffy tegna opens and stuff doesnt fit a hard newscast. The newscasts have no soul or identity. And now.. they replace a legend with some trendy 12 year old from Toledo.

  27. I’m sorry but an hour long newscast should not be anchored solo. I understand the pandemic perspective (and budget cuts) but in the long run I don’t see a solo an or at 5 working out.

  28. I was about to post the same thing. I was in my kitchen making dinner at looked at the oven clock at 6:46 and thought, wow! There hasn't been a commercial yet. I actually like the long intro thing. It gives enough details that if I don't want to keep watching, I don't have to, but leaves out some details. Lately this has been the kind of thing I turn on after my local news (on an independent station) ends and I start messing around with dinner in the kitchen. I can still see the screen from there and if I hear something interesting that I missed, I rewind the DVR

  29. That can't be 1-18-79... the call sign change from KTAR-TV was midyear. Apparently this is January 11, 1980...which puts it at the start of one of Arizona's worst flood years. Things would soon be worse for Phoenix...

  30. The petition's all sorts of interesting, even if its chances of success are probably quite low.

  31. And may go WNBC by keeping the "Q13 News" branding instead of reverting its newscast title, making Q13 the only Fox O&O to have the Fox name in general branding only. After all, the Q13 branding has been well-known for nearly four decades. If Fox decides to change Q13's news branding to "Q13 Fox Seattle News" in addition to adding the "Seattle" part to the general branding, then that is fine by me.

  32. I read his contract and it seems he seems to have a very solid case. Hopefully he will be awarded the damages and compensation he needs. Kind of a dick move from Mauldin not to renegotiate his contract. It should've been done as soon as he was promoted to the PM Newscasts.

  34. KCPQ might get the new graphics by the fall. WXMI by next year at least.

  35. And the "new" Q13 logo is on its website as well. Again, I am totally cool on whether or not Q13 would be the only Fox O&O where only the general branding includes the Fox name in the way that WNBC 4 in New York is the only NBC O&O where the NBC name is in the general branding alone.

  36. Another "newsroom" style set gone. Sigh. I never realized WREG had all that studio / newsroom space. It never looked like it was utilized well on air.

  37. Nope. They've relinquished the news department over to KVEO too. Staffers there are now Nexstar employees.

  38. Not to get the thread off-topic, but I have to ask... Is it normal for KDVR to begin their news at 6:56...FOUR minutes to the top of the hour? I'm used to seeing things begin something like two minutes before, but FOUR? That's seems a bit early even by that metric. They could easily fit a full commercial break there and still begin the 7am news before the top of the hour.
