  1. Yes!! Good to have the quasi old theme back. The 1978 version followed by the late 90s/early 00s were my favorite. Now if only we can get John Williams' theme back on NBC's Today.

  2. The set on WTKR now looks really depressing with the dark blues they implemented for the Scripps look (especially at 11pm). I think they need much lighter shades of blue.

  3. Wait a sec. Now that WTKR's got the new graphics and music, that means maybe sometime this month(?) The South's First Television Station could be getting them and it could soon join the other three stations in the Richmond area that's currently using a news music package from Stephen Arnold Music. NBC affiliate WWBT's been using The Rock since 2015 (although they still use Inergy - a theme they've used since 2014 - for some segments [example: sports, First Alert Weather Day, etc.] after switching to The Rock for their news opens and bumpers; don't know why the NMSA recently removed WWBT's entry for Inergy), ABC affiliate WRIC picked up Guardian in 2016 and WWBT's sister station WUPV picked up The Rock for their NBC 12 News at 7pm on CW Richmond which debuted in January 2020 - nearly a year after the 4:30 newscast moved to WWBT in February 2019. That means Fox affiliate WRLH could soon be the lone station in Richmond not currently using an Arnold theme (they're currently using Warner/Chappell's Sinclair: Glass & Curves), although they used the Sinclair News Music Package from 2005 to 2006. If WTVR started using the new Scripps graphics and music later this week or this weekend, I would be shocked. I like Moving Forward - I was shocked that they dropped CBS Enforcer (along with those cool-looking KDVR graphics!) for it back in 2015 - but it's time to put that package out to pasture. It's getting dated with no updates. BUT I'll miss the Tribune CBS graphics, though.

  4. uh wow. Shawn leaving was largely (ish) considered to be the last straw for many of the commenters throughout Fox 5's social media after Allison's departure. I felt like this was probably coming sooner or later, but didn't expect it this soon. And it's also another pretty unceremonious departure for a veteran anchor -- really questioning what kind of gameplay the GM has been going for as of late, and if they're intentionally trying to alienate a core part of their viewing area.

  5. That was at my urging. If you can't read the bug, whats the point of having one, right?

  7. I think the dark is fine for a late night newscast, but for mornings, middays and evenings, I would hope they could find a way to brighten it up

  8. I thought WBNS would go after Mark Taylor after he left WCMH to replace Revish. Wouldn't a more familiar face be a better option to join the evening desk as opposed to someone from another market?

  9. Basically in any transaction, once they get the greenlight, they'll have 90 days to complete the sale. But they can file an "extension of consummation" to go another 90 days. But I don't expect that to happen as I think the sale would be closed way before that, given that it's Nexstar. But don't expect any on air cosmetic changes to happen on the day of closing (other than the Nexstar ID at the end).

  10. Well darn.....here I was hoping they would select someone else other than Nexstar to run their station But really, should this be a surprise to anyone? We saw this coming a mile away.

  11. Nexstar has been pretty quick about changing things over lately. They’ll want that station to shed any Sinclair-isms stat.

  12. So the Marshall deal to Mission was completed last Tuesday (9/1). KLJB, KMSS & KPEJ are now Mission stations. And what @LexTVandRadio mentioned on Tuesday, the WDKY deal was approved last Friday (9/4).

  13. I was about to post the same thing. I was in my kitchen making dinner at looked at the oven clock at 6:46 and thought, wow! There hasn't been a commercial yet. I actually like the long intro thing. It gives enough details that if I don't want to keep watching, I don't have to, but leaves out some details. Lately this has been the kind of thing I turn on after my local news (on an independent station) ends and I start messing around with dinner in the kitchen. I can still see the screen from there and if I hear something interesting that I missed, I rewind the DVR

  14. Here's a real rarity from ewjxn, the first 5 minutes of KCBD's Eyewitness 11ews (misspelling intended) from June 4, 1979. The station ID also mentions their then satellite station KSWS-TV 8 in Roswell (now KOB satellite KOBR), which aired their own newscast in place of KCBD's called the New Mexico Report.

  15. Launched new graphics, music, newsroom and production software today. Lots of hard work behind the scenes to make it happen. Let's hope I don't mess it up tomorrow morning!

  16. After rewatching it a few times it seems that they actually do give quite a bit of information in those 2 1/2 minute opens and I think it’s brilliant. You can learn the basis of the top stories in that intro and then stick around for the intricate details throughout the show. Maybe this is ABC’s attempt at providing quick updates in our digitally connected world where programs like WNT, NN and EN have not been able to adapt as well to the changing landscape.

  17. YES! YES! YEEEEEEAAAASSSSS!!!! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! For bringing back that familiar melody (with the ABC News signature of course) from the Peter Jennings era! AND, for getting rid of that Damn Hans Zimmer crap you used since 2012, when Diane Sawyer was at the helm. What a relief and a blessing to hear that Score Productions/Edd Kalehoff theme again.

  20. It's not the age that's the problem, it's the financial layout that the experience demands that's the problem for GANNETT TEGNA.

  21. You can see a brief snippet of a Gulf ID at 1:28 in this clip from...KESQ.

  22. I just uploaded this, but I always find it interesting when station IDs include their owner or ownership group in some fashion. This one is somewhat of a rarity in that the owner mentioned (Gulf Broadcasting) only owned KTXH for about a year, and the sale to Taft Broadcasting was announced at about the time that this particular clip was recorded - February 1985. As I opined in the clip, Taft did a better job of exploiting the "20 Vision" brand that had been established by the initial owner - Grant Broadcasting, and it had been somewhat inconsistently used post sale to Gulf. It doesn't even occur in this clip. Taft launched the version that is arguably most familiar to viewers in the area later that year with a logo that lived on until 1993 when the Paramount branding went into effect.

  23. "This man has worked a long, hard day and he's got a lot of money to show for it-- other people's money. He's a pickpocket-- his take: $700. It's dangerous to carry cash. Carry American Express Travelers Cheques. If they're lost or stolen you can get them back. Your vacation is protected. American Express Travelers Cheques-- don't leave home without them." --The late, great Karl Malden, in one of his various commercials for American Express Travelers' Cheques, said commercials indelibly identifying him with that credit card brand (this one from 1975)
