  1. 4 stations in Salt Lake City have deployed ATSC 3.0 today. Sinclair's KUTV (CBS) and KJZZ (Ind.) and Nexstar's KTVX (ABC) and KUCW (CW) began broadcasting with NextGen TV today. Also, this article talks about the progress of ATSC 3.0 deployment so far during the pandemic.

  2. I thought The WB jumped over from KXTX to KDAF right away. I know they were only doing two nights of primetime a week though...

  3. TJ is definitely great, I wish they gave him a permanent role on the GMA team or somewhere on ABC News. He and Amy do work really well as a pair. Wouldn't mind seeing Sara back on The View, she was great on there. Yeah, I wonder how "GMA3: What You Need to Know" is doing in the ratings? Does anyone know? I do like this iteration of the show, it does feel like World News Now in the Afternoon, there's definitely more substance and a more informational tone that I highly welcome. With what's going on right now in the world and with so much uncertainty, I don't really see the silliness of SS&K coming back anytime soon. The more serious tone can easily delve into topics like politics and the election cycle, as well as jobs and the economy. The flaw that ABC News had with this hour was that GMA Day originally felt like a knockoff on Live with Kelly & Ryan and SS&K just felt like they were trying to be a panel version of Ellen. Aww, it's Josh Elliott before he burned his on-air career. He was quite popular with GMA viewers at the time. If he stayed at ABC, there's no doubt he would have been the third anchor on GMA with Robin and George.

  4. Now here's someone that had come full circle from working in major markets. Amanda Arnold, who has had several stints in Houston as a primary anchor, and even anchored at WKYC in the 1970s with Doug Adair, has been a morning anchor at WDHN in Dothan since April. https://www.dothanfirst.com/author/amanda-arnold/ She can be seen in this Klein& promo done for WKYC. She (and Tom Ryther) didn't last too long in Cleveland, and the weather guy went on to bigger things...cough cough...today show....cough cough. I had mentioned this era in the 1980's set thread, since WKYC was in a tailspin at the time because of the launch of Newscenter 8 and success at WEWS. NBC was desperate at the time and let WKYC do their own thing (seem familiar?) WDHN and Nexstar have been on a roll lately, launching a local 9pm news for Lockwood-owned WDFX. Could midday and weekend news be next? They've even had some longtime ex-WTVYers join the staff like Mike Gurspan and Oscar Fann. Then again, the opposite has happened at WTVY with Ken Curtis switching teams several years back.

  5. That's a big come-up for Calvi, and a big get for IE. Congrats to both.

  6. More from KCNC: this 1982 weekend 10 P.M. late edition of NewsCenter 4 (Sunday, May 30, 1982) when Channel 4 in Denver was KOA (Bill Stuart, Steve Anderson with weather, and Davis deMontluzin on sports)

  7. I totally agree with these sentiments. This informational format (health, finance, people-doing-good fare. etc.) is so much more substantive than SS&K, and would serve as a more worthwhile 3rd hour to the mothership. Keep Strahan on the early hours, bring Sara back to The View, and let Keke go back to things...that aren't a talk show? Pair Amy and T.J., better-bridge the look with GMA, and boom, an instantly more respectable product that doesn't feel like a mind-numbing knock-off of every daytime ensemble talker to ever exist.

  8. TJ Holmes has to be a permanent part of GMA’s future. He and Amy work particularly well as a duo when they’re together.

  11. Disney doesn't own the searchlights anyway! Fox Media owns the 20th Century Fox trademarks, and Disney is licensing them on a perpetual, royalty-free basis.
