A lot of the coverage (not just from NBC) isn’t really good. Some reporters tend to ask the same questions every single day and/or tend to be argumentative towards this administration. As Dr. Birx said an hour or so ago. There will be a time to step back and fully assess what went wrong/right during this crisis, but now isn’t the time for that. I agree with her.4 points

Must be the bedlam from "working from home" But I made a tongue-in-cheek promo for WNEP, much like all of the other stations have been cranking out the past few days. WNEP SPEC.mp44 points

But does he really? Call me skeptical but anytime a big wig at a cable news network is “part of the story,” that is usually the network trying to milk it for ratings. That would be an absolutely sick thing to do, but let’s be real, do we put it past CNN and Jeff Zucker? “I have COVID-19, but I feel fine and I’m going to continue working from home.” You are one sick person. To think someone would fake this is absurd. I have no clue where you live, but in Metro NY, it is hitting the area hard. And the stories what it is like for the severe cases are heart breaking. Our hospitals here are overrun. There is not enough equipment, or PPE to protect health workers. Testing sites are overrun since so many have symptoms. Each O&O has been impacted with someone infected, and several anchors, weather, and sports anchors broadcasting from home. And any sense of feeling you are immune because you don't live here, is false. It is spreading and not all states are taking steps to contain it. This was not a hoax. Next time, show humanity even if you don't like the guy by just saying hope he gets well soon.2 points

From 11-7-1978, here is a broadcast of the CBS Evening News which focuses on the election. At 29:08 is a special open for WTVF's "Eyewitness News: Election 1978". You can watch it here.2 points

An edition of CNN's WorldView from 1998 -- the day before the news channel's long-running lower-thirds and yellow bug were retired:2 points

Case in point: Jim Acosta. CNN needs to reassign him to a different role since apparently he's more interested in being a pundit than a journalist. It showed during today's WH briefing. He makes that network look bad.1 point

To that point the morning shows have been doing a terrible job as well. They’ve got nothing to talk about after non-stop coverage of the virus for 3 weeks and the information is basically being regurgitated day after day.1 point

The bizarre thing about this is that earlier in the week, Baldwin was brought to tears during an interview with a woman whose mother died from COVID-19, and who couldn’t see her to say goodbye. Little did Baldwin know, she had been infected herself, but was asymptomatic at the time. Given this and Chris Cuomo’s diagnosis, it’s possible CNN may need to do to its Hudson Yards facility what CBS did to Broadcast Center when its first news employees tested positive. I don’t know if they’ll fall back on using CNN Center in Atlanta as an auxiliary facility for some of its broadcasts (like CNN Newsroom) if a temporary closure for extensive cleaning happens. At least, they should have all of their New York employees that have not yet done so, including on-air talent, work remotely.1 point

I give props to ABC’s coronavirus coverage. They’ve replaced GMA3:SS&K with coronavirus special daily. The View is constantly covering updates. They’ve done 20/20 specials and other prime time specials. Plus Nightline is focusing on Coronavirus and airing at 11:35.1 point

I really hope that somebody out there saved footage of that prank. But hey, if the BBC was able to save their “spaghetti trees” footage, then I’m sure the Great Blue Hill thing is around somewhere. Anyway, back on topic, the user known as “btm0815ma” has been uploading some great stuff lately. One of which being this newscast where Dan Rather talks about a recent incident where he was assaulted on the street by a crazy person. Although not mentioned here, the perpetrator allegedly said to him, “Kenneth, what is the frequency?”, which later inspired the name of a popular R.E.M. song. Speaking of Dan Rather, here’s one of the newscasts that led to his downfall as CBS’s lead anchor, in which he shared fabricated documents about George W. Bush’s army career.1 point

I just found out the theme they used was "Jettison", a production music piece done by John Scott of KPM Music. The ABC Evening News used the theme as their close during the mid to late 1970s.1 point

Barbara Matusow describes that transitional format in her book The Evening Stars: The Making of the Network News Anchor (1983): "[Arledge's] most immediate problem was what to do the incompatible team of Barbara Walters and Harry Reasoner. Arledge's initial move was to buy time by making format changes designed to minimize their impact on the Evening News while he was working on a replacement formula. "Two-shots" were eliminated, meaning that Walters and Reasoner were not shown together on the screen, and something called a "whip-around" was introduced -- correspondents handing off their reports directly to each other instead of going back to the anchor for introductions. Subanchors began to appear: Frank Reynolds was featured prominently in Washington, as was Peter Jennings from various European capitals." (In this case, Barbara Walters was off and Sam Donaldson served as the Washington subanchor. When WNT premiered, of course, it was permanently anchored by Reynolds in Washington, Max Robinson in Chicago, and Jennings in London. It's also interesting to note that the distinctive red corner stripe was introduced before WNT was launched.)1 point

No. This isn't a knockoff. It's a standard. This is like saying WNEM's graphics are a CBS O&O knockoff because it's the same package. Fox stations around the county use this logo we call it the 'Fox Box'. If you're going to blame KXPI for using it, then blame the dozens of other Fox affiliates who've used it as well. I will point out that the biggest inconsistency here is '5' font.-1 points

I wouldn’t call these rip-offs. They’re numbers in a specific font - that’s the same as saying WJLA’s circle 7 logo is a rip-off of WABC, KABC, KGO, WLS’s logo, since WJLA isn’t an ABC owned and operated station... A rip-off isn’t using the same package as another unrelated station. A rip-off is trying to create a similar looking package (usually on the cheap), but not pulling it off well. For example, this KALB newscast open (not sure if it was used on air or not): https://youtu.be/dLlFpX68s68 at duplicating the WNBC’s 2010 open: https://youtu.be/5Mk0FFM8nrE IMHO is a distinct ripoff...
