  1. Lots of "if only's" which won't help the current situation.. I also suspect the issue may be more than studio space since the building itself is closed down. The question is what are the current options CBS has, and what they will do short term, and perhaps long term. At the end of the day, does the typical viewer get the local information they need, including local weather and what little sports news there is? That is CBS's primary objective.

  2. The KCBS anchor who was there this morning is Hermela Aregawi. This isn't normal times, we're in a state of emergency. May I remind you the entire CBS Broadcast Center is closed meaning the CBS network is controlled by LA, CBS News is controlled by DC & LA, and all shows productions (local, network, and syndicated) is stalled in that building. "In times like these, we need each other. We must bond together in spirit and in service."

  3. I broke up an 8-hour tape I had made of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster from 2/1/2003 into four parts. It features coverage from a few of the networks and some of the Houston stations as well. As the clips go on it becomes more KTRK dominated. I have more tapes from this day since I recall running a couple of VCRs at the same time.

  4. If the WABC fire had damaged more than they expected, Kenny Plotnik said that morning broadcast would've been done on the sidewalk. Kudos to WCBS for doing it.

  7. Here is an example and explanation of KGW's "social distancing" at the start of their 5pm show Monday. They have also ditched their usual 7pm entertainment show for a half hour of responding to viewer questions. They have this new thing as well where people can text in questions to their newsroom phone number.

  8. Why not just have an hour long newscast at 7 instead of repeating nightly news?

  10. I could see the 7pm newscast become permanent...but no way the hour long 11pm news stays...NBC is doing it to compete with ABC which temporarily moved Nightline back to 11:35.

  11. Anyone else find it a little ironic that this thread is called "Out and About," but we're not supposed to be out and about with this whole coronavirus situation? #RandomThoughtTuesday

  12. Count me in the hundreds of thousands of people that have stopped tuning in. I was loyal to CBS This Morning since the 2012 relaunch, but don’t really like the new format now or the way the anchors don’t really seem to gel with each other. Liked the old desk setup and the harder news focus. Wish they would have named some bigger draws instead of Mason and Dokoupil. And I like Gayle but she is better as a supporting anchor.

  13. Surprised no one mentioned this, but there is now a case of COVID-19 involving a network news personality. ABC News correspondent Kaylee Hartung revealed Wednesday that she is recovering in self-quarantine after contracting the illness while reporting on its effects in Washington State, one of the coronavirus’ early hotspots. Good news is her symptoms—which she originally thought were allergies, given she didn’t experience shortness of breath, dry cough or chest tightness, the primary symptoms associated with the coronavirus—aren’t as severe as they were early on, stating that at its worst, “I was fatigued. I was not looking forward to getting out of bed. I had a headache right between the eyes. I was congested. I had body aches. My lower back was really hurting.” She is worried about having spread the illness to others when she was asymptomatic. Also, the coronavirus is affecting the family of NBC/Telemundo anchor Jose Diaz-Balart, as his brother, U.S. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) was one of two Congressmen to be diagnosed (along with Ben McAdams [D-UT]) in an announcement Wednesday, resulting in other Congressional members who had contact with the two House Reps. to self-quarantine. I don’t know if Jose decided to take time off from his anchoring duties at Telemundo in light of his brother’s diagnosis, but it would seem difficult to report on your own brother having been afflicted with a respiratory disease you have been reporting on for a few weeks.
