  1. That they were on KNBC in the City of Angels then-- that said, here's a late edition from 10/14/88 where John Beard is in with Kelly (Keith must have been off for some reason): And the morning edition (Today in L.A.) from 10/13/88 (headline is the Dodgers' defeat of the Mets to advance to that legendary 1988 World Series [legendary owing to what would eventually be Kirk Gibson's famous 2-run homer off Dennis Eckersley]):

  2. AirchiveSloan is a legend! So is the KNBC jazzy close. Those bumper cuts are legendary as well. Awesome work here! This made my day. The 4pm and 5pm news is also on his site as well. Love how "anchor heavy" LA was at the time. Different teams for all shows....John/Linda 4pm, Colleen (still there at 5pm) and Jess at 5, Keith/Kelly at 6pm and Keith/Kelly at 11pm. The good ol days.

  4. So sad to hear, but not surprised. Their gfx with Aerial made one of the best combos in the 2010s.

  5. It is exactly the reason - CBS Sports Network is in that building. HQ comes from Florida.

  7. Several staff at WVUE are out of commission after an attendee of the NICAR journalism conference in New Orleans, who visited their studios, tested presumptive positive for coronavirus. The station has sent home employees believed to be in close contact with the attendee.

  8. That's going to be a hard sell because It's been a while since the FCC approved a brand new full-power TV station. And I don't think its going to happen in the near term, as stations are still in the process of repacking after the spectrum auction. And anyway, Gray didn't really need another full power TV station. They already have full power KVLY, and those three LPs (KXJB, etc.). If that deal would've went through, they probably would've moved one of those other networks (CBS or CW) over to the new FP. ______________________________ New M&A. John Wagner is selling the Ion station in the Mississippi Delta, WFXW (the former CBS station WXVT) as a donation to Christian broadcaster, TCT.

  9. I'm glad Sinclair is continuing to allow WLUK to be autonomous with the news music. The gfx and Aerial actually make a great combo.

  11. Airchive on a roll...KNBC 6pm 1988 - at the end a nice hit of the jazzy sax 1985 close. By this newscast the 1985 bumpers had been retired for a synth version of NewsCenter II

  12. In the latest series of AirchiveSloan's collection... Did anyone ask for a nice, clean, clear, long cut of Gari's On Your Side from KTTV in 1988?? Here you go!!

  13. That was also after the title of the daily show lost the day-of-the-week modifiers that it had under Schieffer, and started simply to be called Morning.

  14. One of the best things about Sunday Morning in the '80s: the thoughtful, literate, sometimes almost poetic media commentaries by Ron Powers. Here's one from 1987 about the televised suicide of Budd Dwyer:

  15. here's a retrospective narrated by Pat Harvey aired at last night's 8pm news. Are you ready for this though, a real treat: CBS LA uploaded thru YT the last ever signoff of KHJ at 12am Dec 2 1989, transition to KCAL with the much clearer, ever catchy 'california 9' jingle promo. It starts at :38 tho (lord, could they have edited out cleanly at start, please) but enjoy... BTW, here's a report from Dec '89 when KHJ became KCAL after Disney's purchase. And a pre-launch of Prime 9 News in 1990. Apparently, music is based off 615 music's production library entitled 'reaching the dream' which you can search thru Warner Chappelle Prod Music's site. My question tho is what happened between Dec '89 + Mar '90, was there news still at 9 or was it temporary suspended after acquisition was completed?

  16. Sometime shortly before the latest elections in Israel, KAN 11 underwent a significant update to its news program. They debuted an updated music theme (which I must say is very good). The open titles begins at 2:02. They also updated their graphics, which basically keeps the general concept of the old graphics but this update makes it look a lot more immersive. And last but not least, they also built a new studio. At first glance it might appear somewhat similar to the old studio, but they actually have a real newsroom as the backdrop (instead of a simulated newsroom) and the set design is a lot more circular than before.

  17. Part 26,626 of "does the theme song matter?" A remix was played as part of warm-ups to the Flyers/Blue Jackets game on Tuesday, 2/18... It was noticed on Twitter and more. Other coverage: https://www.inquirer.com/flyers/flyers-6abc-action-news-theme-song-jim-gardner-move-closer-to-your-world-20200219.html I guess that is one way to get some free coverage outside the sports block...

  19. The assimilation has gone full speed ahead despite an uncertain future for TEGNA at this moment. My guess is that all of their remaining stations will have the uniform look before the end of April.
