  1. the ratings will surely surge under the eyewitness news brand.... nothing better than a 70's gimmick to bring the viewers in...

  2. I won't be surprised if WEWS goes outside of the station to replace Danita for evenings. WKYC is beyond a trainwreck in the mornings (with Dave Chudowsky covering the Indians' spring training, they're having Jay Crawford filling-in on Tuesday morning), but WOIO seems like they are rebounding. They are stabilizing a bit with their current team, and having Jeff Tanchak back on the AM was a smart move. Jamie Sullivan also came back to the station a few years ago in the same spot she used to be in. "19 News" is a HUGE improvement over "Cleveland 19."

  3. This KMOV newscast from February 1995, using the "This Is Your News" moniker but the older imaging and music, shows how KMOV was starting to "soften up" compared to, say, a year prior, but they still had a ways to go compared to where they were by '96.

  4. you said the secret word!!! today's secret word is.... mandate... i guess they forgot about the "mandate" when they gave KVUE a new logo... and WCNC... need to impress tvnewstalk??? use the word "mandate!" works every time...

  5. TEGNA mandate requires the use of the PSIP in all branding. So it's most certainly either ABC 5 or WOI 5. So either they pickup WOI5.com or they keep ABC5Iowa.com as the root. The latter is cheaper.

  6. Or maybe bring back "Eyewitness News" for both WOI and WATN. ABC 5 (WOI-TV/DT) carried the Eyewitness News name from 2001-06 and (WATN) ABC 24 also carried it as well from 2000-10 back when they were WPTY.

  7. Also - before Tamron Hall, that studio was the former home of The Chew.

  8. They definitely will. It doesn't comport with their branding policies. ABC24.com redirects to LocalMemphis.com currently. So ABC24.com will become the root domain. WeAreIowa.com may remain the same, but it could redirect to ABC5Iowa.com as well, to align closer to Tegna's branding standards.

  9. Yes; that set was located in TV2 which is now home to Tamron Hall. I thought the election night set was extremely over the top and unnecessary.

  10. I liked this set a lot but I think it’s too much for a daily news program. Hopefully a more toned down version of this is what we’ll see. Was this in the studio Tamron Hall films in?

  11. Really? Just because of a rerun show? What the Fife? https://youtu.be/Q2nmUIvcd_0 WTHR, weekend 1997. Lexington viewers will recognize the meteorologist.

  12. Idk why but something about that "MORNING NEWS" font bothers me. Maybe it's because the font almost looks a bit unbalanced? Personally I think they could've done way better using the WFTV package. If or when WSOC gets new graphics, I hope Cox gives them something much better than what WFXT just implemented.

  14. Hate to say it but this look is already outdated. Had this come out a few years earlier, maybe it would be okay, but now? It won't age well AT ALL.

  15. I wonder if new graphics will come with the studio relaunch. I like the current music, but if they do change it, I’m hoping it’s something with a nod back to the Peter Jennings-era music. Not a fan of the direction ABC News music has been going lately.

  16. Except they were all re-signed to long-term affiliation pacts when the merger cleared last year. And Rupert is not controlling the company now. Lachlan and James do not possess the gravitas Rupert had.

  17. That... and the Fox graphics hub isn't going to support two different looks, so it only makes sense to make the switch.

  18. Apparently, unlike WKYC, WCNC took the time to send an updated mug to 30 Rock as was seen on Thursday's installment of Late Night With Seth Meyers.

  19. The next chapter in the Ernest Angley saga is due to unfold in a Common Pleas Court-run mediation session. https://www.beaconjournal.com/news/20200213/grace-cathedral-former-minister-face-off-over-sordid-accusations?fbclid=IwAR37R35Gvm_GSy02J15ZyH8uQ5YKUpl-CUAbfc0hkUq67dteIlLXORzs580 Disturbing and sickening details aside, the accuser wanted to oust Angley or be compensated for his damages. And of course, the cult...i mean Church is standing behind Rev. Angley and his flock. He is now almost 98, and will not take part in any depositions due to "age-related maladie

  20. And that's sort of Tegna's thing. Separate yourself from the competition. Tell them they're not going to get that. The clap-snap-woo music? Different from whatever Steven Arnold package the other stations bought (and let's be real, everything he puts out sounds the same). It might not be your taste - and that is okay. But there is no denying that it's a better attempt at sonic branding than any other station group. The simple graphics -- PURPLE?! Yeah, I bet you every station in your market is running some sort of blue/white/yellow combination that, if the logos were s

  21. Of course, but red has been so pigeonholed into that urgent group, where it's fallen out of favor in general packages, outside of the BBC. Some complain about the heavy use of blue across the industry, but red was an acceptable primary color not too long ago, without only meaning breaking news. In ABC's upcoming use, orange gives the same effect, against the cooler, darker colors. I welcome the differentiation.

  23. One word: Seahawks. That and the fact WJZY has been in the ratings basement since its inception. The former Fox affiliate still beats them in the ratings. KCPQ far better performs in the Seattle market in comparison which is why it's more valuable in the eyes of Fox. Fox's decision isn't as much of an indictment on the Charlotte market moreso than a tacit admission that taking the affiliation from WCCB was a mistake. It's also what kept Fox from trying the same thing in Seattle which is why they just waited for KCPQ to go on sale instead.

  24. At ABC7 WLS Chicago in 2013, after a 17-year absence by calling themselves ABC7 NEWS, they brought back Eyewitness News. https://www.robertfeder.com/2013/10/16/abc-7-looks-forward-to-return-of-eyewitness-news/ WLS launched the Eyewitness News format in 1969 with Joel Daly and Fahey Flynn, which was a year after the format was born at sister station WABC New York in 1968. However, 27 years later, WLS dumped that Eyewitness News name for ABC7 News branding. But now, after a 17-year absence, the name is back. This time, WLS is now calling themselves ABC7 Eyewitness News.

  25. There was a KTVI news teaser from 1994 with Marion Brooks and Tom O'Neal from the Crane "2NewsTeam" era that was on Youtube and is no longer. Don't know if the person who posted it reads this forum, but it would be nice to see it back on.

  28. My ideal wishlist is.... * Anything WFMY 2, WGHP 8, WXII 12 and WXLV 45 in the Triad from the mid-90s to 2004, they are so hard to find, especially when you want more of WXII in the era of Hearst's camera graphics package (2000-04) * WLFL 22 in the Triangle from the mid-90s to the mid-2000s, when they were a Fox affiliate then became a WB affiliate in 1998. * WCHS 8 in the early-mid 2000s Eyewitness News era, using Peters' WBTW "Best of Two Worlds" theme * WSPA 7 in the 1990s when they used 615 Music's Pinnacle, and sister station WNEG 32 in Toccoa from the 1990s to the 200

  29. The only reason why WUAB gave up The WB was because of their contracts to run both Indians and Cavs games OTA, which reaked havoc on juggling two networks with (at the time) partial schedules. Neither of those exist now, and MyTV is so irrelevant that it can be cleared between 1am-3am and no one would know otherwise. But switching affiliations this coming Monday? The CW must know something about WBNX that we don’t if they made a switch this abrupt.

  30. Sad news this time from across the pond again. Television Presenter Caroline Flack, 40, was found dead of an apparent suicide yesterday. She was the host of Britain's most popular show of the moment, ITV 2's Love Island. She was awaiting trial in a domestic assault case in March. She pled not guilty. However that case turned into a circus on part of the media (the sun, daily mail) + allegedly (by Flack's lawyer) Crown Prosecution Service (equivalent much to Dept. of Justice in U.S) for pressing forward trial despite her boyfriend wishing not to press charges. She later stepped down from hosting
