  1. Just listened to my first WCAU weather report on KYW Newsradio (that felt weird to type)... They apparently have to tag out with "Count on It".... ...I'm completely dead.

  2. KYW had been simulcasting EN even after the spinoff. IIRC part of the terms of the spinoff were, CBS was to maintain their partnerships with the radio stations for a year and then they were free to do whatever they want. The Philly cluster partnering with NBC 10 is just the first shoe to drop. That said there's nothing stopping other markets from just reupping with the CBS O&O they were previously aligned with. I think it's safe to say Entercom Philly couldn't wait to be free of CBS3 and the mess they're currently in.

  5. That totally makes sense.. At least for Philly, it broadens the coverage base. I want to see which other markets will do what Philly is doing. One thing is for sure I don't expect NYC or Wash DC to do this just yet. However, if it works in Philly, than I could see the other NBC O&O's jumping on the philly bandwagon with Entercom.

  6. Wow. Not sure I would have asked for his resignation, a suspension was sufficient enough but ABC has had more issues than other networks with inaccurate reporting. Wasn't Brian Ross demoted for an inaccurate report, then they were first to incorrectly publish the identity of a suspected mass shooter, and before that I think they were successfully sued by a company for inaccurate reporting about the quality of their meat? Matt's report was egregious and thankfully inaccurate, but other than this one moment he has been a fantastic asset to ABC.

  7. I'm watching KCNC's live stream now, and WCBS's 6:30 repeat on CBSN NY. And I don't see any L3 changes........

  8. From across the pond, personal yet big news at ITV's This Morning. Longtime presenter Phillip Schofield revealed that he's gay. His co-presenter + friend Holly Willoughby kicked off the announcement with a public statement. Prior to the event, Phillip has been married to his wife Steph for 27 years (they met at the BBC, she was a Production Assistant, he was CBBC presenter) + has two adult daughters. The full video below (as of this typing) has garnered more than 4.5 million views within 24 hours. Phillip stated that although it hasn't been easy, he since has gained full support of his family.

  9. And that's sort of Tegna's thing. Separate yourself from the competition. Tell them they're not going to get that. The clap-snap-woo music? Different from whatever Steven Arnold package the other stations bought (and let's be real, everything he puts out sounds the same). It might not be your taste - and that is okay. But there is no denying that it's a better attempt at sonic branding than any other station group. The simple graphics -- PURPLE?! Yeah, I bet you every station in your market is running some sort of blue/white/yellow combination that, if the logos were s

  10. I don't get the "gimmick" complaints either. After all, local TV news has been bursting at the seems with silly, consultant-driven gimmicks for years. "Your first look at the weather"? That's a gimmick. Attractive, smiling male-female anchor teams with the man usually older than the woman? That's a gimmick. Endless reminders to download the station's weather app? That's a gimmick. Consultant-tested newscast names that mean absolutely nothing these days (Eyewitness News, Action News) and should have been retired decades go? That's a gimmick. "Breaking news" tags

  11. I wasn't planning on bumping this thread for this news, but since someone else did I guess I'll do it after all: There's another new Spectrum News 1 channel, and it's based in Worcester, Massachusetts. In addition to Worcester and central Mass, the channel also covers the Berkshires (finally giving that region Mass-based news) as well as towns of the Pioneer Valley where Spectrum is the cable provider (such as Chicopee). For the Worcester area, this replaces Charter TV3, which formerly carried Worcester News Tonight. WNT's anchors and reporters carried over to the new Spectrum News 1.

  12. I'm surprised there was any belief Fox would even dare to implement team-specific fonts to the XFL when the NFL is clearly miles ahead in popularity and ratings. Not expecting anything different if other sports they cover like MLB and college football are treated the same should they get this package. As for the TD graphic above? That's a good place to start if they want to do that for "featured" players in the NFL. Get their best shots from photoshoots or use headshots if that's more convenient for every player, regardless of who is/is not star-worthy. Not sure if I posted the ev

  13. Another follow up to this story: FTV is exclusively reporting that Matt Gutman is being asked to resign by upper management at ABC- Burbank division. Link: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/2/10/exclusive-abc-news-pressuring-reporter-to-resign Source: FTV.

  15. So, a year plus since the launch of Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin. I dropped back in on it a couple of times over the last couple of days, and I'm still struggling to figure out why Spectrum is, to be honest, wasting their money on this. In terms of news - little if any actual hard news. Of the actual packages I saw, a were all very light news: - a story on the testing the voting machines in Madison (which happens literally every time there's an election) - a story on the PBA's commissioner and how he originates from the area - a story on an organization assisting minori

  17. My thoughts exactly-- keep the evening edition as it was, and move that Haggerty show to the slot you suggested.

  19. Not necessarily. World News Now will be coming from the ABC News LIVE set for the next few weeks, and the anchors were ready with jokes.

  20. Could this be the return of The Tube? And now Tegna needs to acquire KTXD. I don't know when it'll happen but needs to.

  21. As they should. I know where they got the package from (and I know who they are and that they're on this site), and their flow of new stuff is going to get cut off if they continue broadcasting to the world that they've got access to it. I don't think Warner Music Group is someone you want to get on the wrong side of, especially legally.

  22. Really now? I'm obviously not from Cali, so this would factor to my opinion, but even if I was, I would find car chase coverage dumb, boring, pointless and a waste of the actual important news stories in the area to show -- and the hard work by reporters by extention (except for KTLA which has half a day to do them both). The fact that SN1-SoCal wouldn't cover them alone would give me enough reason to watch that instead, no matter how "out of touch" they are.

  23. Their marketing made clear from day one they they aren't doing police chases live or much blood and guts (NY1 and the NYS channels only do that for a few of those stories). If six stations are covering it, it's nigh pointless to have them do it too with one of the same three angles those stations choose from, and if you're there with the current news rather than the chase, you'll get some viewers that way for sure.

  24. It doesn't really surprise me since Spectrum News 1 was never meant to compete with OTA newscasts. It's mostly meant as muzak for doctor's offices and bus stations. Going in with that low expectation, it's does its job damn well.
