I will pause my posting hibernation to say that WPTV's open is somewhere between meh and ok. I do see an improvement on doing a combo of the WPTV logo, both white and full color, as well as the "News at 5PM" font. On that particular open, it has somewhat better logic to the gfx execution. So kudos to WPTV for that. But WFLX's open is 100% rubbish. And although their previous open was also bad, I have to say I like their previous open more already. I'm no fan of this gfx package, although the music is marginally better than the gfx by comparison. The morning cut used on KNXV is likeable, although that's the sole case I'm willing to 100% endorse the music. On the music use in general: I'm amazed that the stations seem to roughly dump out of the open audio for the bumper music...which appears evident even in the WPTV intro. I hope that Scripps will improve on that and make it more seamless. A final thought: An open should have a strong local flair to it while remaining true to the overall branding strategy of the network. That's all I'll say on the matter.2 points

Little off-beat, but since we're talking about the ABC O&O's, I'll put this out: most of the ABC O&O's meterologists met for a summit in NYC: https://twitter.com/abc7dallas/status/1220061479715721216?s=202 points

It looks like you get at least 3 choices and we have them in both a horizontal or if you prefer to be more compact a vertical...1 point

Meanwhile here's the WFLX news open with the new graphics. All I'm gonna say is what in the name of frankfurt is the WFLX logo?1 point

That's an interesting question, I'm curious to know why Stephen Arnold couldn't incorporate the NBC chimes into the new music myself1 point

Would be interesting to see if Local-ish is eventually made available to other ABC stations besides the O/O's.1 point

After concluding the celebrations of its 60th anniversary, RTP's Telejornal has kept the theme but made some slight changes to the opener (the identity has been in use since March 2016). A personal note: it's outdated (including the theme) and should be replaced. Network 10's extremely bizarre promo to congratulate Sydney newsreader Sandra Sully for her 30 years of service. Includes appearances from presenters Tim Bailey and Chris Bath. A long closer of TVE's Telediario from this afternoon. It shows footage of the wild weather that has been affecting Spain recently. Also from this afternoon, a personal recording: a small montage of Todo Noticias' late afternoon/early evening segment (5 to 7pm). It's mostly focused on bumpers and throws to commercial breaks. I've also included the opener of the following segment, that airs from 7 until 10pm.1 point

Soon to follow: News-ish Truth-ish Worth Watching-ish Fish-ish Boring-ish And introducing: Ish-ish I think ABC’s motto must be “an ish in every home and 2 ish’s in every pot!”...1 point

If it weren’t for the live shot, you’d think this newscast was from 1969, not 1979.1 point

Just to be clear, since I’ve received 3 “dislikes” on my post above, I despise these graphics. I was just pointing out the idiocy of Scripps creating a standardized graphics package and then granting exceptions bc they know how crappy they are.1 point

https://www.newscaststudio.com/2020/01/06/abc-news-times-square-temporary/ Towards the end of this article from NewscastStudio, there is an interesting idea that was raised. Is it possible that WNT is not even in TV3 at the moment, but in a temporary studio?1 point

Not to digress even further on the movie end of things, but the sex/violence issue is precisely why Disney started Touchstone Pictures in the 80's. They're just using Fox (a bigger, more well-known name) for that now.1 point

Now that the searchlights of 21st Century Fox are no longer part of the brand identify of the New Fox network, they’ve rolled out a rebrand earlier this Fall. I’m curious whether this abstract logo will find its way into local station identities and when the searchlights will start to disappear from local stations with the dated, so-called “kite” logo. more on the rebrand here: https://www.creativebloq.com/news/fox-entertainment-rebrand1 point

only a handful of their nbc stations used the nbc version of inergy... not worth the extra expense for two stations to use... always enjoy this site... quick to say stations need local flavor... while also saying all stations need to "look/sound like" their affiliation... there are lots of sleepy fox affiliates out there... not everyone is wsvn...0 points

RTVE Spain mourns the death of former Informe Semanal (the equiv. of 60 Minutes) director and journalist Alicia Gómez Montano who passed away earlier today from a battle with cancer.
