  1. TEGNA lied and I'm not surprised. Where did this idea come from the Tegna was "giving up" on this stuff? The departure of Joel Cheatwood? Even if that's a logical conclusion to make, developing a new show from conception to debut can take 6-12 months. So this new KGW show was probably in the works long before he left, if he was even involved at all.

  5. Just because Cheatwood left, doesn't mean they're going to throw out these formats. The idea that Tegna is just going to suddenly go back to some boring, dry news format with two stiff anchors at a desk reading news over some grand orchestral news music is ludicrous. The old way of doing things aren't coming back any time soon. Folks need to stop holding their breath.

  12. As for the silly news titles, can you think of anything sillier than Eyewitness News and Action News? Sure, they have been with us for a long time, so we're used to them, but if you think about it, both titles just scream consultant-driven gimmickry.

  13. Ah, the "traditional American newscast" argument. Nothing says traditional like 11 straight VOs, forced fluff segments, unnatural social media integration, unrelatable happy talk, and stretched out formats. You know, the stuff we're apparently 'afraid of' from retooled newscasts. But it is getting late after all, I'll go check what Channel 11 have New at 11 on Eleven at 11 - 11 minutes of nonstop local news and weather before 11:11. You know, traditional. Jokes aside, I believe it all depends on execution. Contrary to popular opinion, younger viewers aren't stu

  18. Yeah but here's the difference between Rob and Jay. AFAIK, Jay has only done sports being that he was at ESPN for 15 years. He hasn't actually anchored a hard newscast like Rob and Russ have. Rob was a fill in at WABC. He's done hard news. That's why he easily adjusted to it. Even Betsy, who isn't even an anchorwoman, has done hard news. IMO, I just don't think Jay could do hard news. That would be a major transition for him. He doesn't do hard news on this 5pm show, from what I seen, and he didn't do that during the Lunch Break show. I hope I'm wrong if they are grooming him to r

  19. Exactly...I guess the upcoming Super Bowl had something to do with it. I don’t expect the sale to close by then. They will probably get the WGHP news intro music and website when the sale closes but I don’t expect their graphics package now. WJZY did still get the new graphics. So we will see. Orlando would seem to make more sense for Nexstar in this proposed trade except they seem to want a station (stations in this case) in Charlotte to complement its other stations in the Carolinas.

  20. That was probably the high point of their branding. Projo & Belo were really trying to make them a contender after years of bad management and the bad luck that NBC was dealt across North Carolina. The stigma of UHF was especially bad in North Carolina as NBC was relegated to inferior stations at the time.

  21. Surprised they would get the new graphics considering they're about to be sold to Nexstar pretty soon.

  23. After concluding the celebrations of its 60th anniversary, RTP's Telejornal has kept the theme but made some slight changes to the opener (the identity has been in use since March 2016). A personal note: it's outdated (including the theme) and should be replaced. Network 10's extremely bizarre promo to congratulate Sydney newsreader Sandra Sully for her 30 years of service. Includes appearances from presenters Tim Bailey and Chris Bath. A long closer of TVE's Telediario from this afternoon. It shows footage of the wild weather that has been affecting Spain r

  26. I was more referring to the cuts from the opener to the wide shot, and then to the presenter. With cuts, it looks like a mistake, or a "switcher solo". I dunno. It's minor in a grand scheme of things, but it would have improved the opening sequence a little. I'm also not a fan of the animations not featuring any shots of Sydney/Melbourne/etc. Right now, 7 and Ten have the best opens.

  27. TEGNA lied and I'm not surprised. TEGNA, I will be happy if you undo the Gannett-Belo merger. KGW was historically a Belo station, and Belo was one of the best owners in existence. You can't be better than Belo, Cox (pre-Apollo) or Hearst.

  28. Okay, noted. I just went by what the call sign and city of license were to my knowledge: Charlotte, North Carolina. I didn't know about the second version about it representing both Carolinas.

  29. Especially since Sinclair has single-handedly launched STIRR and made it into a mini-PlutoTV and will soon be adding select syndication on-demand for shows that air on their stations. And it was Nexstar that pulled the plug on the NewsOn partnership that saw the Media General stations that were on it go away. Hopefully as more shows are available with better digital rights, this will encourage Nexstar to take the plunge, especially when their next closest competitor is eating their lunch in this department.

  37. Just to be clear, since I’ve received 3 “dislikes” on my post above, I despise these graphics. I was just pointing out the idiocy of Scripps creating a standardized graphics package and then granting exceptions bc they know how crappy they are.

  38. THANK. YOU. Everyone talks about how TV news needs to reinvent itself...then a station reinvents a single newscast and everyone loses it. Obviously the old way of doing things doesn't always work anymore, so it just makes sense to try something new. Have an open mind.

  41. Not to digress even further on the movie end of things, but the sex/violence issue is precisely why Disney started Touchstone Pictures in the 80's. They're just using Fox (a bigger, more well-known name) for that now.

  42. Now that the searchlights of 21st Century Fox are no longer part of the brand identify of the New Fox network, they’ve rolled out a rebrand earlier this Fall. I’m curious whether this abstract logo will find its way into local station identities and when the searchlights will start to disappear from local stations with the dated, so-called “kite” logo. more on the rebrand here: https://www.creativebloq.com/news/fox-entertainment-rebrand
