I found this on YouTube, but I can’t place it with a graphics package that a station in the group uses. Could this be a new graphics package?2 points

Do not hold out hope for Move Closer To Your World sticking around. Tegna (then Gannet) shattered my dreams when it ripped the Spirit Of Texas out from under WFAA for no good reason at all. This company’s main goal in life is to take away anything that made a station unique, watchable and likable and replace it with cheaply designed, grossly underpaid, non-focus grouped cow manure. Thus, they will take great pleasure in sending MCTYW down the Lougee Loo and replacing it with their new age scat-snap-and-clap-fest as the viewers of NE PA light their torches and call for some heads—that I can assure you. They will spit in the faces of their valued viewers and laugh as they smash WNEP under their boots. As an aside, can someone please bring back Belo? I will buy you lunch! (For context: I’m not some old fart reminiscing about the good old days. I’m in my early-mid twenties, you know, the demographic Tegna is trying to reach with their crap. Just sayin’.) Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.1 point

If they could tweak the blue to match this shade I think the package would be a bit more desirable. I like this graphic’s look.1 point

By process of elimination, I would guess 1980-82. If she was 61, that would've put a college graduation of 1980 and her arrival at then-WJKW was in 1982.1 point

Clearly Deadline forgot a lot, such as her husband of 33 years (which was why she left WJW for WFSB) and their college age daughter. https://www.courant.com/breaking-news/hc-br-wfsb-denise-dascenzo-dies-20191208-2lu3tjuqeve5fmt3cw4cjrasq4-story.html1 point

For the sake of himself and anyone who was on the road that night, let's hope someone else drove him home last night.1 point

WJW did post an article mentioning her passing. https://fox8.com/2019/12/07/former-fox-8-anchor-denise-dascenzo-passes-away/1 point

Here we go, bringing WPIX into this again. I don't want to write my thoughts about this debate again, so I'll link to what I wrote previously:1 point

I think the biggest problem Scripps has ran into is that they've brought so many stations in almost a year that they've essentially placed the graphics and everything else on the backburner. Clearly this will cost Scripps in the long haul especially with their development of the news department for WSFL as I don't think the new graphics package will go over too well in South Beach1 point

This demo reel from Jeff Hertrick offers a rare look at ill-fated Martinsburg, WV Fox affiliate WYVN's newscast. Also includes some clips of his time at WTOC. WYVN used the "USA News"-copycat production track "America's Station" from Firstcom.1 point

There have been many other packages and I'll even throw in Inergy for good measure as one of those solid news music packages. This one, I'm not sure if I like it or not, there needs to be other cuts to it before I can actually give an honest opinion on it. So far Scripps is trying to (and failing) to make their music a carbon copy of the Weather Channel1 point
-
I think everyone here wants the best for the Scripps stations. But if I see something that I know is not going to work (as I do with those gfx), I'm going to express that opinion. What's the point of expressing any opinion if you can't be honest about it? Also, criticizing others' ability to analyze just because they may have a different opinion than you doesn't help anything. I'll just leave it at that.1 point

Nexstar graphics, and there a variety because of affiliation and station are 2x better than this. Nexstar graphics packages (and it varies based on station and affiliation) are 2x better than this.1 point

you'll change your mind once i finish writing my essay about how the stretched helvetica WJZ graphics were the pinnacle of creativity in graphic design for broadcast media and literally everything that came after it is depressing and awful and on par with (gasp!) the WKYC rebrand!!!1 point

i’m not going to make ANY friends here, but i’m gonna be the one to say it. well, i’ve already said it on the discord, but still - the package is growing on me. i kinda like it! i wish that it had a bit more motion to it (like the KABC package mentioned earlier) and fonts that have more of a presence but honestly? i see what they’re going for and i can kinda dig it. it definitely won’t be as flexible with existing station branding like the Renderon package is but... sometimes it feels like i’m the only one who wants to give this one a chance it took time for the tegna package to get appreciation for what it was too so...1 point

The Scripps closing logo has been updated to include the 4-note signature of the new theme.1 point

And the Scripps music is pretty slow and it sounds non-descript and like production music. As a news music curator and composer, I'm very underwhelmed. SAM's production cuts have a stronger more sonic sound. This isn't that. Which is somewhat ironic given that ABC is developing a standardized package. This KABC look was developed in-house too.1 point

Seems like someone's reading the itinerary on a cruise ship. Very utilitarian. Nothing more.1 point

I see Scripps is standardizing their ABC stations to have their morning news named "Good Morning (insert city/market here)." Except that they can't do that in Phoenix because KTVK's morning show has been "Good Morning Arizona" for 25 years.1 point

Some of the stations are going to look awful with that design. They might want to redesign the logos for the Montana stations, for example.1 point

It's actually more of a compliment than a compliant. WFTS' music choices do help mask how deliberate the graphics are, so kudos for that.1 point

Now that we've seen it on a bigger-market station (WFTS), I can safely say it's still meh. The ideas are there and I do like the still designs. However, the animations are STILL pretty lame, especially for the market size.1 point

Looks like Scripps didn't learn their lessons for how to improve upon the graphics package. And if they did this wouldn't be rolled out right now so that tells me that they're sticking to their graphics package in it's current forum1 point
-
Well it's official. I now completely dislike this graphics package. If this is what 2D "modern" graphics are supposed to look like, then I guess news graphics have passed their peak in quality. I've said it before, but Scripps deserve better gfx than this. Not only that, they, as a matter of necessity, need better graphics than this.1 point

And here are some bits and pieces from the very first edition of NBC Overnight, a quirky newscast with great writing that truly set the standard for overnight news programming back in 1982:1 point

Hartford, CT... Southern New England... WFSB-TV... and Channel 3 Eyewitness News will never be the same without Denise D'Ascenzo. Thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to her family and to Denise's extended family at Channel 3 Eyewitness News. Denise contributions and dedication throughout the Hardford and Southern New England area were prospectively and respectfully great. And I know many of her fans and loyal viewers are sad, heartbroken and devastated of her unexpected death... she'll emotionally will be missed. Rest in Peace, Denise... God bless you, and Godspeed.0 points

Whether it's Saint Patrick's Day, New Year's Eve, or a championship sporting event, reporters hate these live shots. https://twitter.com/WWLTV/status/12034953376730562560 points

Not sure if this video has been posted yet anywhere on TVNT, but thought I'd get this on here. This is the announcement as made on WFSB's air earlier this evening. Very sad.0 points

Hey guys, we don’t need you to constantly rehash complaints with the package as a whole. However if it’s a station specific one feel free and feel free to post how they evolve locally.-1 points

Calling news music packages "production music" and saying television design "peaked" because we don't like it is exactly the level headed analysis I would expect from TVNT.-1 points
