  1. You got to be bleeping me. Seriously. What the hell is this?!! Forget the lottery ball, this is worse. It looks like they took the "3" from a sign out of a street corner. This is not a TV logo, it's an outdoor sign. I swear you can't get any worse than this. Pitiful. Just plain and extremely pitiful.

  2. Every newscast with a unique name to them. That is unprecedented.

  3. 3 ball...corner pocket.

  4. Bah, I like that new WKYC logo. It's simple and to the point, tells you everything you need to know. Hey, when you see that 3, you know it's coming direct from Cleveland. You know what's boring? Those blue-and-white Circle 7s, those suckers are everywhere. You see one of those, it could coming from any of the nine zillion Channel 7s around the nation that were too lazy to come up with something unique. And since I had no clue what the current WKYC logo looked like, I went to their website. It looks like a ne'er-do-well 3 leaning against a wall while a shady peacock looks around the corner for unsuspecting rubes to mug. Hardly trustworthy, I'd say.

  5. Someone saw the "3" in the universal film leader and decided 'hey, this is good enough'; It's just kind of blah...WISC did a much better rendition of the 'circle 3'...hopefully it has a little more life in actual use. I understand minimalism is the new thing, but this is absurd.

  6. Agreed. Somebody needs to split the discussion about WKYC's new logo into it's own thread because this discussion has covered at least a page to almost a page and a half of this thread. Also, if I can find a source regarding about Wichita that you teased recently on the blog, I'll send that to you.

  7. I would use the old Tones on Tail song "Go!" at the start. When the newscast ends, play a song with "Stop!" in the title.

  9. Well, the last logo had a good run and evolved pretty well over the last 25 or so years. I remember the "We're building our station around you" campaign which literally featured shots of the logo being designed and physically crafted... Now all I can think of are elevator buttons, pool balls, road signs, and however else this logo sucks. I don't even think an NBC peacock could save it. So much talent in that building over the years with all of the innovation and breaking the mold and putting out a quality product. Then came the broken fax machine, and their best efforts to work around it. Ever since C Clarity hit the air, it was only a matter of time before the product was trashed.... I can only hope that Russ Mitchell ends up hosting the CBS Evening News (like he should have years ago) when their latest effort flops, yet again....and WKYC will hit the basement again like they were pre 1994......

  10. Or copied it from the New York MTA. I've seen some bad design decisions in my time - working in IT, its inevitable I suppose - but this...I can't even wrap my head around this one.

  11. Oh. My. Gawd. Someone please tell me this is a placeholder logo, like what WTOL did a few months back. 3 Ball makes Lottery Ball 5 tolerable in comparison....

  12. The 5pm talent open is back in what is certainly a nod to Diana Williams. The last time it aired was early July when she returned from a month long vacation to begin these final 10 weeks.

  13. It's one thing to blow up the last place station that no one watches anyway. That way News With A Twist can exist peacefully amongst good and semi-decent products. In Tegna's case, they've taken successful stations (and a cellar dweller or two) and driven them into the ground (further) with their "forward thinking" WKYC and WWL were once decent stations (WKYC was finally clicking after DECADES of failure) to have been fixed to death by Tegna....

  14. The only viewership WIIC got in the 70s was when the Steelers played on Sundays and Pirates played on The Game of The Week on NBC. If it weren't for the Steelers success starting in 1972, I'd think WPXI would still remain a laggard in the ratings.

  16. I tend to agree with this. Everybody has the four anchors with no personality, they all sit behind a desk in a studio that looks like the bridge of the USS Enterprise. Something different is long overdue.

  17. That second KUTV clip (the John Stehr bump) I think is also the news theme — they used similar for at least one other bumper I know of. The sign-off in the same video has the same musical signature, too!

  18. Amen to that. I'm glad you're all for younger hipper and experimental newscasts like me. But the majority of this forum (along with longtime station viewers) will probably hate it from day one, cause they all think local newscasts are like the formula for Coca-Cola, in that changing it would be sacriligous and lead to tons of hatetred.

  20. Does Gray mandate that stations must spell at least one word wrong per newscast per station? "Autospy" on WLBT and "alamanc" on WBTV. Embarrassing...
