  1. WBTV implemented the new Gray graphics last night.

  2. And since design trends are cyclical, I imagine we will soon start to see things like [ FIRST IN HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE ] [ PRESENTED IN UP-CONVERTED DIGITAL 4K ]

  3. There is a special "Celebrating Diana" at 5 pm on Thursday (9/12), the last of her time. They also posted her first report on Twitter, back when she was reporting and anchoring weekends. https://abc7ny.com/society/diana-williams-first-wabc-report-on-1991-at-t-phone-fiasco/5525995/

  4. Wow. Their implementation is actually very good. Maybe it’s the gradients, but these look a lot slicker than the other Gray graphics.

  5. I got some names: 5pm: "Watch Us After Ellen" 7pm: "At Least It's Leas Boring than Wheel of Fortune" 11pm: "At Least Fox 8 Isn't Here...Yet" Weekend Mornings: "Go...Back to Sleep!"

  6. Does Gray mandate that stations must spell at least one word wrong per newscast per station? "Autospy" on WLBT and "alamanc" on WBTV. Embarrassing...

  7. Great find - funny it was being mocked back then as elevator music. But now that we know yeah those horns are signature Gari, and probably his collaborator at the time Danny Baker.

  8. The bug resembles the old Raycom bug, which helps too.

  9. I'd be surprised if the CBSN look rolled out to the OTA newscasts with no modifcations or differences. Whether it's more thorough opens, a different bug with the station logo, or different lower thirds, what's used for the cable-like CBSN might not work as well for the traditional local format. The best comparison I can think of is how WGN and CLTV have differentiated their looks over the last decade, while sharing fonts, color schemes, and basic design elements.

  10. I remember back when the 10pm news first launched, Julie would have a lot of long-form pieces on the 10pm news. The anchors would meet her over in the interview area to introduce and conclude her segments. I have no idea if that's still been in practice for the past few years, but maybe they are planning on making her a formal addition to the newscast.

  11. Move over, | | | | | | | | | s, > > > > > > > > > is the new trendy thing in town.

  12. No, they need to use this music instead: "Ladies and gentlemen, the name of the newscast is Go!"

  13. Nexstar needs THIS for its stations!

  14. I want to like this - as it is definitely “on trend” in terms of a flat design. But - the open is sloppy and clearly inspired by TEGNA. (Diagonal stripe pattern is an obvious similarity.). I do like the transitions and wipe/masking effects. The set is a nice variation of what we’ve seen in recent Nexstar sets - similar to WISH but with an overall “darker” palette and varying textures. Plus, unique features like the bridge cables and street patterns really bring a “local” flavor. In this age of consolidation, I appreciate Nexstar’s approach to individual station branding and identity. (Which is obviously a remnant from Media General and Lin.) I wish TEGNA, Scripps and Sinclair would take a similar approach, It’s standardization without being too cookie cutter - offering options for individuality amid a slate of consistent design elements.

  16. I remember speculating quite a long time ago that SOTB was a Gari composition. I must have said that on YouTube or something, though, because I can’t find me saying that here. The instrumentation in many cuts sound a lot like Hello News; still others sound like So Good To Turn To. I guess I’m not crazy after all.

  17. This might be one of my biggest finds this year: The Spirit of Tampa Bay is Gari! It's rare to find unknown Gari works, but this appears to be one of them. It also appears there is a v2 of this image campaign that debuted in 1983. From Walt Belcher's April 11, 1983 Tampa Tribune TV column:

  19. Personally I was hoping for a rename to GMA3: Return of the Jedi. We also would've accepted GMA3: G With a Vengeance.

  20. Good Afternoon America was probably the best. That said, over the last few years ABC has gone heavy on the acronym, ditching most references to "Good Morning America" in favor of "G-M-A." So, in that sense, the fact that they came up with 'GMA3' is not terribly surprising. (Not far off from GMA Day.) GMA3 sounds like the strain of a virus your doctor would vaccinate you for.

  21. Bringing back both costs too much. As for the re-titled midday show, 'Strahan, Sara & Keke' doesn't flow AT ALL. I'd hope that this is a holdover til the daytime premieres next week (the renaming coinciding with Keke's birthday today). That said, 'GMA3' isn't that bad, now that I've had time to think about it. It has 3 hosts and is the 3rd hour of the flagship. Even if it sounds more like a Korean boy band than a show, it's easier to say and brand than the 3 hosts.

  22. Title sounds like a cross between a video game that should be M-rated and a bad top-40 single.
