  2. I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty annoying that we've gotten to the point where our national anthem has become a hot-button political issue. If you like having it played on TV, you're a fascist, and if you don't, you're a communist. There's no pleasing anyone anymore, is there?

  6. You weren't around in the '80s when few broadcast stations were 24/7 and nearly every stations played the anthem at sign-on and sign-off, were you?

  9. I have no trouble with the national anthem being played. It's the motives behind it that I question. "Loyalty to country ALWAYS. Loyalty to government, when it deserves it." – Mark Twain -- Matt P.S. Guess who also does the national anthem … yup, North Korea. Good holiday weekend to you all.

  13. In Montgomery, Alabama, the mayor's office is up for grabs after the longtime mayor decided not to run for re-election. They just had a runoff, and one of the finalists is David Woods, owner of WCOV Fox 20. He is the son of Charles Woods, who also dabbled in politics and owned WTVY in Dothan until 2000. Being a station owner, that frees him from the conflict of interest that many companies have when someone runs for office, but if he wins, the station may have to be put in a trust or sold. At least they contract their news out to Bahakel's WAKA/WNCF so that's out of the way (they disclose this in their coverage)

  16. I've been watching retrospective clips on WTVH syracuse. What a station in this land that truly fell from grace. Curse Granite forever, how that still exists I don't know (should've folded the time they sold KOFY TV in SF) Mind you the abandoned building they've had for yrs still stand. I know it still 'exists' as CBS 5 News but that's like the same team who does sister station WSTM 3 thru simulcast. Can anyone recall such fall from grace similar to 'TVH? This next clip is heartbreaking front + back. Including near the end with Photo Montage is WTVH's 'You've got a friend' Jingle from Gari (with extended and other cuts) Included in the clips below include Kathy Orr, Tracy Davidson, Lee Goldberg, Mike Tirico, Adam Zucker + of course David Muir. Al Roker is in the clip above.

  18. Today is the last edition of the Youngstown Vindicator. Fortunately, Youngstown will still have a daily newspaper since the Tribune-Chronicle in nearby Warren has purchased the distribution and brand assets and will produce a replacement newspaper under the Vindicator brand. Unfortunately, many of the Vindicator employees will lose their jobs and only a select few will continue on with the new owners. Now that the Brown family is reduced to WFMJ, it will be seen if they end up selling out. Tegna cashed in on Dispatch and WBNS/WTHR (while Gatehouse got the newspaper), so there is a definite target on their backs.....
