  1. I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty annoying that we've gotten to the point where our national anthem has become a hot-button political issue. If you like having it played on TV, you're a fascist, and if you don't, you're a communist. There's no pleasing anyone anymore, is there?

  2. Unlike others who seem to hate living in this country, I personally think that playing the national anthem is a welcome sight on television. We should be proud for the freedoms that we have living in the United States of America, and we shouldn't be afraid to show it for a few moments during the broadcast day. I doubt those of you who are opposed to this will even be watching television during the time the anthem plays. We'll see if any other broadcasters follow suit!

  5. I know that being an atheist in some quarters is considered enlightened but the human body is a complicated organism containing specific parts that do specific jobs. Kind of hard to believe that your eyes, ears, nose, circulatory system, digestive system, brain and self-repair properties just kind of happened on their own. I don't know if you realize this, but being an atheist is like saying that if you throw a bunch of sand (glass), some unrefined petroleum (plastic) and chunks of metal ore (copper, gold) at a wall enough times, it would randomly arrange itself into an iPhone, complete with all the computer programming necessary to be an operable device including internal power source. In other words, believing in a creator is much more plausible than believing that pond scum gestating long enough could turn itself into the complicated beings that we all are. God, mother, country, national anthem! It's about time people stopped entertaining Marxist nonsense.

  6. And my good friend... XETV had RESPECT enough to play both national anthems (USA and Mexican) at sign on and sign-off. Total Class!

  7. I have no trouble with the national anthem being played. It's the motives behind it that I question. "Loyalty to country ALWAYS. Loyalty to government, when it deserves it." – Mark Twain -- Matt P.S. Guess who also does the national anthem … yup, North Korea. Good holiday weekend to you all.

  8. USA #1 Being Atheists does not automatically make you "objective" in the world of true journalism. It's not some magic inoculation for being TRULY unbiased.. It's just say's "I'm Athiest...and nothing more. Just another "opinion." I hope your not claiming to be a journalist of some type. I will let you have the last word.

  10. Seriously??? What on earth can be wrong with the national anthem? This is America... Love it...or leave it. Enjoy Labor day...and lets all pray for those in the path of Dorian. (insert pic of big ass American flag with patriot loving shark)

  11. I applaud their efforts to do something different and create a local show that’s not sports or politics-related. Since it’s not a news program (per say), I’m sure they aren’t looking to ‘dethrone’ anyone. At best, get about the same (or better) #s than whatever airs currently at 10. Seems like an achievable enough goal. If it doesn’t work, then so be it. Better to have tried something new than nothing at all.

  14. In New Orleans for a few days, watching WWL. Not sure when they did this, but they have slightly amended the name of the newscasts. It’s now “The Eyewitness News at (time).” It was Channel 4 Eyewitness News for decades. The just Eyewitness News for the past few years. They added a “THE”. Also, they’ve brought back an announcer for the actual newscast intros. I don’t believe they’ve had one since they switched to the new TEGNA look. It makes a big difference. I like it.

  15. Don't you know you NEVER tell a man with an ugly dog...that his dog is ugly. Yes it's bush, rough and unpolished, but it's not trying to be anything but a startup all news operation, that has to start somewhere. I'm totally rooting for these kids and every single crappy cheap Chinese tv transmitters they occupy. These guys KNOW what a budget is because they don't have one.... They trade aluminum cans for satellite time... They eat Cheerios out of ziplock bags that mom packs for them...She still has to cut up their meat into little squares, and trim the crust off the bread... They all get naps... ...and I bet the news director can't even buy cigarettes or a dirty mag until he turns 18. Besides, It's fun to watch! At least some still get an allowance for doing the chores.

  16. There is something about the production value of their in-house stuff that strikes me as cheesy. I don't know if it's the graphics, the lighting, the intro or what, but there is something about these bits they produce that really get under my skin and it has nothing to do with the content. It just looks small market to me for some reason and Sharyl Atkinson is a pro so her show shouldn't look like this. (Just my opinion.)

  17. That's the latest use I've ever seen of any station using And You! Then again, this is the same station who is still living in 2009 graphics-wise! Heres more of that newscast, including a bumper at the end using "Say Hello": The very beginning of Great News Package on WKYC:

  20. In addition to saving on veteran talent salary and benefits, younger talent is seen as more compliant about doing the crap that owners like Tegna foist on viewers like their obsession with social media.

  21. How about I'm an atheist because of my objectivity. Also, having the national anthem play every night is trending toward state-controlled media and nationalism. I'm definitely against that.
