  1. Your analogy of World Cup soccer and TV news makes zero sense. Telemundo 39 is #1 in Dallas because of the growing Hispanic population. It's the same here in LA, KVEA is usually at the top of the heap due to demographics. When you watch soccer in Spanish, you get the gist of the game just by watching the action on the field. That comparison does not happen with TV news. You need context and you need to be able to understand the language to get the true background on what is being reported.

  2. The problem that is plaguing RTVE is the same problem that plagues PBS: a lack of money from the government. Difference is that the PBS member stations can make up for it via pledge drives.

  3. If true that leaves two big holes to fill - 2 pm and 7 pm. Previously they said it was replacing Steve Harvey. If the rumors of a 7 pm newscast are true would they do local at 7 or be like WRC and do a full hour of local at 6 and Nightly at 7. They were doing this in the 80s.

  4. Is the Corporation de RTVE (Radio y Television Espanola) in trouble? Spain's public broadcaster (La 1, La 2, Canal 24h, Teledeporte y Clan + Radio Nacional, Radio Clasica, Radio 3, Radio 4, Radio 5 y Radio Exterior) is seemingly running out of money, due to a lack of a budget from the Spanish government (which owns RTVE) and also because of political instability (literarry. Catch the podcast "Que?" from El Pais, Spain's national newspaper. Really good btw.). Not to mention, it has suffered its lowest ratings in history. Right now, RTVE doesn't have the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games rights and according to the article, La 2 Noticias may come to an end as a result. https://advanced-television.com/2019/07/22/rtve-hindered-by-lack-of-funds/

  5. I’m betting the house that this was a mistake. It’s a volatile election year and common sense (and history) show that stations ADD newscasts rather than get rid of them during presidential election years. Was it a generic promo (not mentioning New York) from Ellen? Many stations still clear Ellen at 4pm and almost every one that cleared both aired Steve at 3pm.

  6. Not just the text, but some of the animations are clunky as well. I'm specifically talking about the end of the open when their logos pop forward and begin to spin back. There are a couple awkward pauses that don't need to be there. It just doesn't look completely finished.

  7. I think the combination pool / ice rink is a nice added touch to the set. Those Disney folks sure know forward thinking set design. Beats the hell out of that CBS News Roomba.

  8. Last week Mega in Chile went a rebrand of their newscast and got new graphics. Previously they were "Ahora Noticias", now they're "Meganoticias."
