Can't wait to see how Gray is gonna do WBTV honestly.

Day one of anything (outside of already awful media product that can't be saved) isn't a cause to call it a 'bomb'. You've got staff getting used to a new workflow and probably some new formats to deal with on-air, and technical issues can happen at anything. And it's nigh doubtful that a mere spelling error in a rare breaking news situation is enough to portend the downfall of an entire news operation (and who on earth besides news people follow news directors on Twitter?!). As long as viewers are watching and advertisers are spending their money, the show is fine. It didn't have the best launch. As long as this isn't its MO going into October, everything will be fine.

I still don't understand why Gray was even interested. Is WVIR doing that much better in the ratings?

Here's a full WTOV newscast from November 1989. I've never heard this cut of The One To Watch before!

It's better than the Raycom look - never thought that look was good to begin with, let alone aged well.

The weekend newscasts are still using the news scroll while the weekday morning newscast uses the CBSN NY graphic at the bottom.

Am I the only one that thinks they missed a good opportunity to reintroduce the steamboat whistle? (And steamboat footage in the back of the 5 logo?)

That 'TKR format would have been a good match for a Fox affiliate starting up a news department, but I can see why the presentation didn't work so well for WTKR. ——— This CFTO clip from 1991 includes a snippet of them using something I never knew made it to Toronto: the early 90s CFQC/CKCK theme (an underrated jam IMO)! Was it only used for this 5:30 newscast?

Some of my flea market finds from today... WTKR from March 1995! Probably the most that's been seen of the short-lived TV-3 News look.

They certainly were able to last longer without looking horribly dated. Both KXLY and WISC's newsroom sets held up well despite their nearly two-decade ages.
