  1. Charles Gibson was solid and second only to Peter Jennings.

  2. Why? So they couldn’t hear Chapin yell the last names of the anchors? Here’s a KENS intro from 1979: And a WTVR open from the same channel:

  3. In the video description, I noticed that for the WTVR news open they used WSLS' 1988 news therme. Considering the newscast was recorded back in 1986, it was used way before 1988. And, it may have a name according to YouTube user Channel 37. WTVR used a JDK Music package titled "Shenandoah" due to the fact that the Shenandoah Valley is in Rockingham County in Virginia.

  4. By the way, do we know anything about the editorial theme heard at 58:01? Was it used by all ABC O&Os at the time?

  6. KOVR 95 theme composer hypothesis? Compare this to "Newscast A" by Sonoton, used by WKCF. I hear some similarities, especially at the end of the KOVR open.

  7. It's not exactly a law, but if you have a contract with labor unions and you try to go outside of the proper union to get work done, you're might end up with most (if not all) of your union employees not at their desks, picketing outside. NABET has a national contract with NBCU that covers a lot of engineering/production/technical jobs. However you also have IATSE's various chapters doing various things across the country. You might have a NABET camera operator and a IATSE lighting technician and a carpenter from a completely different IATSE chapter that's focused on scenic. Chicago has at least 8 separate IATSE chapters (Locals 2, 110, 476, 750, 762, 769, 780, and B46.)

  8. WPGA looks like HC2 bait to me. How would Marquee make the station profitable without a major network affiliation? This was the Registers' mistake for dropping ABC over morality issues. TV is business. If you don't like what's being broadcast, sell the station.

  9. Meanwhile, in this weird, alternate universe, WGN Morning News was a calm, sophisticated hour of serious news. And still, no one watched WBBM.

  16. https://archive.org/details/paymar_jimsdubmasteranchor I accidentally posted these in the international thread due to my habit of clicking on the Classic Vid category tab without knowing what thread it is. Anyway these are a set of KRON opens I haven’t seen before. Sister station WOWT had a similar set, with a shot of their control room:

  17. Some very early WNYW promos from March 30-31, 1986, still using the old "40 Years of Fine Tuning" theme. The Fox network had not yet been announced, and Tom Gregory was still working at the station!

  18. A CFMT ID, movie intro, and promos from February 1987, using the "11 Gold" theme and graphics. Everytime I hear that ID on stations from back then I cant help but sing "_ Gold!": Also on the video are some CHCH promos and a sign-off from that time.
