A 1995 CNN report about local stations' obsession with crime:

Couple months in now and the set got a mini refresh with the big colored light panels that adorned either side of the home base backdrop being replaced by stone pillars. To me, it's a much better look. The light panels were bare and didn't really add anything of substance to the video wall. The stone brings it out much more.

Not to mention their last graphics set with the WDVM square 9, where it was just "9 News" (though the EWN name remained elsewhere),

I think the issues going on in Hunt Valley has to do with all of that, No one wants to work for a Sinclair-owned station and I really can't blame them for leaving the Sinclair stations while they still have a chance to do so

Never seen this before: Interesting 1987 interview of President Reagan by the network anchors: Dan, Peter, Tom and Bernard.

BREAKING NEWS!!! The FCC has greenlighted the Gray-Raycom deal.
  8. 1 point
Ah, I can hear it now: "Oh, golly no, we don't have a deal with those pesky Sinclair types, no way no how. Those would be circumstances a bit too shady. No, we have a deal in place with... er... Cunningham Broadcasting! Like, totally and completely unrelated to Sinclair at all. Yeah, that's the ticket!"
  9. 1 point
Oh they will, as long as Sook is honest and doesn’t pull the same shit as Sinclair.
  10. 1 point
No broadcast chain has been as greedy and inept as Sinclair was in their attempt to get Tribune. Nexstar will say and do all the right things and it will close with a minimum of drama.

And I believe WNYT debuted it in 2006, they were using the earlier cuts as late as January 2005 (those cuts went live 5 months prior):
  14. 1 point
At KNBC, yes. There was a conga line of smaller markets that were using them before hitting the O&O's. The NMSA has KETK using said cuts as early as 2006, the earliest video I could see of them in action was of WNYT in 2007.

Wow, more Arizona news from 1995. This time, the story is the OJ verdict. At one point, KSAZ opts to cut to KTTV's coverage. At 1:55:49, a brief feed loss reveals a CNN Newsource slate. There's also coverage from some other outlets toward the end, including Hard Copy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0zmqrxFeRY There's also coverage of other events from AZ here: the 1987 papal visit including the full Mass done at Sun Devil Angel Stadium, where they had to cover the "Devil" up at the Pope's request! and a 1997 Motley Crue concert that featured a riot. This is late 1997 — note the "NEWS" in the Fox 10 News logo now stretches the width of the logo.

Some WNYT coverage of the 2002 Olympics - plus a promo for its weather team of four meteorologists, and a glimpse at Kelly Lynch doing the weekend news in her second of three stints there. Fun fact: I listen to her and Chuck Custer every morning!

You thought that WNYT clip on the River Rats was nostalgic? This clip from 20 years ago is beyond amazing (plus a young Rodger Wyland!!!!)

What happened to Clark Powell? I know he became a station correspondent for NBC News after NBC bought WCMH, but is he still in television? And his co-anchor... Holly Hollingsworth. She was one of the first employees let go post-sale.

1978: From a Chicago broadcast, a GMA weather update with John Coleman, with a promo from fill-in anchors Jim McKay (ABC Sports) and Joan Lunden (WABC), before her tenure as host.

Both of these have lingered on the Internet Archive for some time as back in the day WNYT's video was downloadable in .WMV format. The 50th Anniversary was treated as a bigger deal by the morning crew as I remember Phil & Paul having Wayne White (the engineer in said video, who stayed until a year short of his 2015 death) live in studio and at least one other old clip being played. That lost dog story seems to be superfluous on the surface but anyone familiar with the area knows it was a big deal. John Nigro, the pet parent in question, is a major developer of retail properties in upstate New York and while anyone with the means would do that it seemed a little over the top. Also, the graphics blatantly showed that WNYT produced said ad.

A Halloween impersonation prank from WNYT, 2001. This gives a rare glimpse into their former secondary set, eventually disused in 2004 but with the backdrop recycled for their temporary set currently in use. This video began a tradition of goofy Halloween closes at the station which continues to this day

Were these graphics used for NBC's branding, or were they made just for its affiliates?
  25. 1 point
I can confirm this was an affiliate promo package NBC fed out to affiliates in the late 90s. Source: I used these backgrounds cutting promos at my first job.
  26. 1 point
Look at the background. Countless NBC affiliates have used it in promos, news opens, etc. I'm thinking it was a promo template that NBC made for its stations, but I'm thinking otherwise. Here's another example:

Every now and then, whenever North Korea does something, news sites always post pictures of people in South Korea watching coverage of this on TVs in public places. And one channel that always seems to be on, Yonhap News TV, looked oddly familiar. I found a video clip of this, just to confirm that the cube logo does rotate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of2kUPsQJ4k It looks a lot like Fox News Channel! The spinning cube, the time below it, the yellow text on the ticker, the stock markets to the right of that, I think the designers of this liked the way Fox News looked and clearly decided to incorporate a lot of FNC elements into Yonhap.
