2. Recently found this WSOC open at 44:11 in this NewsActive3 compilation. It has the same graphics as KNTV’s open from the era (this is the Bob Perry open on the NMSA).

 3. Network morning television is on the decline overall in local and morning shows. To me, Today show went downhill a long time ago when they ousted Ann Curry. I don't pay much attention to the Today show anymore. I don't get the big deal with Willie Geist, he has no personality and not even a real newsman. His Sunday show is very boring. Weekend Today is non existent, I am not a fan of Craig Melvin, his voice is a turn off and he is not relatable.

 5. Probably just KMOV 4 but if they want to be like KPTV at least branding wise they should revert back to the "News 4 St. Louis" moniker

 9. If that’s the case Baltimore May finally get KLG and Hoda. Chelsea Clinton was an awkward fit. She barely did a story a month and was involved in the the foundation.

 10. It seems as if CBS wants to be number one and not put in the work to get there! If they actually come up with a plan and stop being brash with firing Scott before they had a real succession plan maybe they would’ve been better off. I will say the “eye opener” rundown was a good start.

 12. The problem is - in David Muir, ABC found itself with a dramatic, attractive and especially flamboyant evening news host who is perfect for attracting viewers in the demo - notably women. It's like the so-called "appeal" of Justin Trudeau. Peter Jennings - although not gay - I remember was really the first to have this whimsical, conversational (and higher-pitched) kind of delivery that engendered a deeper kind of "connection" with the viewer than the more impersonal, old-school "voice of God"-style anchors like Dan Rather. Jennings definitely represented a "different" mould of anchorman in his era at ABC. And Muir was the logical successor to keep that style going (in his case, going way over the top. For what it's worth, I am not a fan of Muir's or ABC's new style at all). So, Jeff Glor is the opposite of this style. CBS's mistake was thinking it was just about age, and hiring a telegenic youthful anchor. No, it was about expressiveness and flair and drama - like it or not. Jeff hasn't got it.

 13. Her delivery is very sugary. I’m sure she’s a fine person, but I’ve always thought she should be at 11 or 4, not prime time.

 16. Muir is leading in the $$ demo and in HH numbers more than not. Holt’s numbers inherited from Williams have slowly slipped away. ABC has been the only one to build an audience recently while both NBC and CBS are trending down. So at the end of day it may not matter what those of us in the business or those of you who are news fans think... the viewers think Muir and ABC are it currently.

 17. Willie has no personality and he is overrated. Willie is not a newsman(journalist) he is a studio doll. He got ahead cause of his daddy Bill Geist. A real newsman is a journalist who is not afraid to cover hard news, go to the front lines, be among the people to get the story. Lester Holt, Richard Engel, Scott Pelley, David Muir, are real newsmen. Willie Geist does not do any of that, he stays in the studio, reads the teleprompter and stays bland.

 18. Are you judging the fine folks at WPTZ ? You are pre-shaming those poor future overweight newsworkers with your predictions of obesity and gluttony. Do you think Ben and Jerry will buy some time on WPTZ...or sponsor the Health Minute? Is Gluttony a word?

 19. My apologies if this is in the wrong thread (and move it if its in the wrong thread) but... It looks like MTV-U is about to be redundant. Cheddar has bought the transponder system that broadcasts MTV-U and will replace it with CheddarU. For the record, MTV-U isn't dead but its more redundant now as CheddarU has already started broadcasting. https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/viacom-is-selling-mtv-campus-networks-to-cheddar/

 20. Willie’s Sunday show kind of requires the no personality type of tone. When he’s on other shows during the week he definitely shows his personality, and I’m not sure how you came up with him not being a real newsman.

 21.
@Ramona Going back on what you said about WPXI possibly debuting Newsmat in ‘85 is now plausible. This Steelers video from 1984 still shows WPXI with their old logo: http://www.mcmillenandwife.com/1984_Steelers_35_vs_Oilers_7.html Sticking with ‘PXI, this 2 hour Steelers Video On Facebook includes some promos for Channel 11 mixed in, as well as then-weekend sportscaster Randy Waters hosting “Steelers 5th Quarter”. Interestingly, his second stop after WPXI was another channel 11, this time being WXIA in Atlanta. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=id=1297900003626494;type=video
The McMillen and Wife Steelers fansite has TONS of videos! (Pray the NFL doesn’t shut them down). If anyone wants to see vintage WIIC and WPXI clips there are many of them as WIIC/WPXI was the Steelers flagship TV station for many years as they locally televised all of their preseason games until 1998 with a short stint on WTAE from 1985-89. In fact I just watched a 1981 preseason game and at halftime they had an ad for their new 5:30 News with a young Roxanne Stein and then a news update with Midge Hill at the 29:00 mark. 22. Apparently, yes. However, Fox O&Os have tended to use two sets of anchors on their weekday morning newscasts in some markets (some ex-O&Os like WDAF-TV still do that as well); so it's possible that Ryan and Pryzybyl will be shifted off at least part of the 4:00 to 7:00 a.m. portion of the newscast, to make way for additional anchors. The reports did say that KDFW was planning on adding staff for the expanded broadcast. The only existing newscasts I would foresee KDFW expanding in the near future would be the noon news (to an hour) and the 10:00 p.m. news (to weekend evenings). Yep. Though the newscast was titled Good Day Dallas from c. 1997-2004.

 23. The 6 hour blocks of news on most Fox O&Os is insane. Not sure why KDFW would fix something that wasn’t broken. And how does Good Day Dallas work? Do Tim and Lauren anchor all 5 hours currently?
