Well, turns out the new racing Foxbox can go back and forth between vertical and horizontal view.

Header could use some color like the old design, but the layout seems like an update to the old one, nothing too revolutionary

Has anyone noticed that the Meredith stations no longer live stream their newscasts on their webpage? They all now direct you to download an app or get the steam through some other device (Roku, etc). Wonder what the reasoning is....? Is it a money thing? Does it take multiple types of streams to send to all the platforms? Or is it a strategic thing? http://www.wfsb.com/category/216668/wfsb-eyewitness-news-livestream-1 http://www.kctv5.com/category/274238/watch-kctv5-live-newscasts-and-replays http://www.kptv.com/category/210121/watch-fox-12-live-video-stream http://www.cbs46.com/category/213015/cbs46-news-live-stream

If he wasn't living so far away and occasionally filling a similar role at WTMJ, I'd say it's a possibility. The job listing on their website is asking for minimum 5 years experience, versus the usual 3-5, and they're looking for large market experience, so they seemingly want more of a veteran.

I’m sorry but Megyn Kelly and KLG & Hoda have to be canned!!!! The ratings are dwindling down badly.

That makes sense as the translucent WJZ logo was still on screen as the SR opened.

Allow WRAL to once again prove why they are the best in local news and technology. Here is what they are doing for their Olympic Zone coverage. Wow. — Matt

WLWT aired a promo last night for their 70th anniversary, and in that promo included someone watching a newscast from their phone. It had the lower third and bug from the new diagrid look in there. Turned on their news tonight and no new graphics at all! They played us.

It's a bit late, but I actually decided to see how WXIA opted to implement the package. Since the Olympics are coming up (and I want to take video captures of NBC's presentation and keep them for myself,) I also decided to give Bandicam a spin and capture WXIA's intro. For starters, the headlines shown in the intro are slightly pixelated (I don't think that was a problem with Bandicam), which just looks bad. It also doesn't seem as if the music is properly synced up with the segue from the headlines to the actual open. Kind of sloppy if you ask me. Other stations seem to have a better handle on this, so I think that's just WXIA screwing things up. Speaking of the music, my overall opinion is unchanged - I like the overall melody but don't think those weird vocals have any place in the intro for a "serious" newscast. I couldn't get the other bits and pieces on video, but I do like the music cut WXIA uses for the "Storm Trackers" intro. The "NXT" screen I could definitely live without.

I think Ed's voice sounds just fine. A little deeper, perhaps. Not much different from when my station was using him in the late '80s-early '90s. Certainly not as raspy as Charlie Van Dyke.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and predict that if any other Hearst stations debut the new graphics in the short-term, it'll be the group's other NBC affiliates Ditto. I think, at the very least, WBAL WLWT, WDSU and KCRA will debut the next-gen diagrid package when the first events begin Thursday or when the Opening Ceremonies take place on Friday (the Olympics this year is scheduled in an odd manner, so that a handful of events begin the day before the Opening Ceremonies, instead of the day after as usual). WGAL, WXII, WYFF and WVTM may opt to introduce them then too on either Thursday or Friday; WPTZ/WNNE I'm not so sure of.

Dear God, them’s some bright colors for 5am. Snagged this from Charlotte Today on WCNC. In other news, looks like the L3 also handle graphics as well.

Sorry for the double post. The station just uploaded a timelapse video of the set dismantling and rebuild: http://m.wmcactionnews5.com/clip/14100955/timelapse-of-tearing-downbuilding-wmc5-studio

It's a tracking thing is my guess. I bet "they" (those people) get better info about you from those sites because they are optimized better with the app. With the website there are blockers, fixers and untrackers...but with the app you "agree" and download all kinds of new tracking BS. They want your location and phone number. That way they can target exactly what part of your brain they want to suck out first.

What's funny about the vertical running order is that this is how everyone used to display it back in the 90s. Now we're getting a modern 16:9 take on it.

Half the fun is staying up all night waiting for a medal sport 84 time zones away. Didn't ABC run the events pretty much when they hit live even in overnites?... Or was it all only prime time? Dang..I really don't remember now.

What's the current pecking order on which networks get to pick games first? This past season, I noticed that the 4:25 ET Fox and CBS games were the top matchups, followed by SNF, followed by either MNF or TNF depending on the week. Do the 4:25 ET games get priority over SNF now, or was that just bad luck with how the matchups turned out last year? Part of the biggest issues with MNF and TNF is that they generally get some bad matchups. It's been worse these past few seasons since there haven't been as many top teams in the league. This past season, there were generally only one or two top matchups per week, and every other game was mediocre. I actually feel like many weeks had better TNF games than MNF. Was MNF reduced to 4th in the pecking order?

Sounds like the typical chaos of a SR coming down during a local show. I'm sure there were producers and master control staff yelling at each other before and after and there was a miscommunication as to who was taking what when. The Hub is not yet operational from what I understand

Stupid, dumb question... Is every broadcaster around the world forced to air the Olympic Rings on TV as to 1) let people know they're the official broadcaster in their country for the games and 2) the IOC requires them to do so per contract?

And WXIA still has a voiceover. Is WBIR still using a voiceover and are they still mentioning they're in HD?
32. 1 point
The question is, are they still being rolled out by affiliation (ABC has the Academy Awards coming up on March 4. CBS doesn’t have any more eyeball-grabbers left this season) or just randomly. Some stations are throwing photographic backgrounds on the seven-day

One last word: The only real complaint about the new set after seeing it in action this morning is the quality of the Skycam feeds used for the "windows" behind the anchor desk, as some of them are still in SD (hence the grainy quality of the shots). They're supposed to be upgrading those cameras soon, so hopefully it won't be an issue for long.
