1. Mmmm, Real News... One of the essential opens of the 90s, no doubt about it. Also, all those KCBS opens really emphasize not only how nice that package is but what a break it was with their recent past.

 2. I just heard on the morning news that Jim Ramsey is retiring after 30 years.

 3. They used to have in the early 2000s an annoying "I Love My Diamondbacks" theme that they used in commercials. It's *still* stuck in my head. The 10 years of Diamondbacks baseball helped keep KTVK relevant even as its news operation sometimes made you wonder. Fox Sports Arizona had the other half of the games and became the full-time carrier because the Diamondbacks didn't want to bother with OTA TV any longer (and most likely KTVK could not or was not willing to match the Fox Sports deal).

 4. Rosanna seems very "off" today. Don't know if it has to due with Matt Lauer (since she knew him very well) But she did mention she heard names at the local news level.. could something come out about Fox5?

 6. I don't mind Hoda becoming the co-anchor. She will make the morning show less pretentious and plus guys like Craig Melvin and Willie Geist are not proven yet to handle the pressure. My preferred choice would be Lester Holt but that is impossible and he seems to like being on evening news. Evening news has better stability and more freedom for him to do what he wants. Whereas on Today show there are more limitations cause it is multi-cast.

 8. In agreement here. Turned to WNBC coverage which was infinitely stronger.

 10. Combing some historical weather data for Albany, there's a date I'm 99% sure fits this clip: October 10, 1991. The record highs and lows still match, the high and low that day match, and the other October 10ths that graphics package was in use were weekend days. This would've been just over a month after that package, Gari's "The Hour", and the NewsChannel 13 name came about. On a WNYT-related tangent. lurking on Archive.org is their own story on their 50th Anniversary (warning: downloadable link).

 12. Or maybe they realized that shorter URLs are much easier to type into web browsers on phones.

 13. Maybe someone at Nexstar finally realized giving their stations' websites random names that don't really connect with the station itself is stupid, and are now "finally" trying to fix that mistake. Hopefully this means the end is nigh for sites like arkansasmatters.com and ozarksfirst.com.

 14. Which includes a borderline knockoff of WSVN's graphics package of the same time period. BTW, when did KTVI launch a 6:00 p.m. newscast? In the close of the first clip, Tom O'Neal noted that, in 1994, the station only ran its weekday evening newscasts at 5:00 and 10:00 p.m. (Ironically, the same timeslots that KDNL aired its evening newscasts from c. 1996? until its news department folded in 2001, as it did under the KSDK news share and now does for The Allman Report.)

 17. Should I be horrified that the KKTM open is...actually not quite as bad as I expected from the music? The graphics are actually pretty on par with KNAZ at the time. (which may not be saying much, but still...)

 18. Still no KTVX, eh? I wonder why that station is missing lots compared to Channel 2 and Channel 5? Did many people not watch KTVX’s News at the time? Same goes for KOLD, too. Also that KTNV morning open features a young Cecily Tynan pre-WPVI!

 20. I wonder what this means for WPXT long-term. With the Top 8 rule poised to go away, you would think that Tegna and Hearst would be chomping at the bit for WPXT at minimum if not Gray using it as a trojan horse to enter the Portland market if no other avenues open up.

 28. With so many stations adopting this I guess this is the new Nexstar layout. a slight improvement over the previous one, but still a downgrade from the MG wordpress sites. It is encouraging to see the West Virginia stations drop the stupid "localportalhomepage.net" titles, hopefully other nexstar stations will do he same.

 29. From what I read in the tv listings, Action News is launching a 5pm Saturday newscast this Saturday, which was expected after the college football season(technically not over - conference championship week counts as regular season games). Are they going to have Walter and Sarah co anchor(as they have for Sunday newscasts since Rob Jennings retired 4 years ago after 36 years as weekend anchor) or is Walter anchoring solo, or are they going to have some else co anchor with Walter?
