Peter Mansbridge retiring next year

    He will be leaving his post as CBC's chief correspondent and host of The National next summer at age 68; the article seems to implicate that he will be retiring after July 1, 2017, celebrating Canada's 150th.

    It's likely that Wendy Mesley (who currently anchors on Fridays) may be his full-time replacement, unless they have someone else in mind (oddly enough, CTV and Global's main newscasts are led by women too). Let the speculation begin.

    And with that, the last of the previous generation of great news anchors on both sides of the border has retired. Enjoy retirement Peter

    Wendy Mesley would probably be next in line, or Ian Hanomansing.

    Still kinda hoping Kevin Newman goes back to anchoring a national newscast in Canada again. He was great on Global National.

    I was also thinking about Kevin Newman: whatever happened to him? He just disappeared...

    Kevin will anchor CTV's W5, replacing Lloyd Robertson.
