Based on this Facebook post from KBAK, it looks like Dave Gonzales is no longer just temporarily filling in and has officially joined the Eyewitness News team. Also, KBAK has poached another anchor from a rival station with former KGET 6pm anchor Rachelle Murcia joining the station to co-anchor with Dave on the evening newscasts. Last month, Erin Briscoe left the KERO morning show to join KBAK for the same duties.

Lance Crawford is returning to WPMI as sports director....
    http://lagniappemobile.com/wala-extends-nightly-news-go-head-head-competition/

This comes a little under two years after WPMI failed to renew his contract when he was the lead sports anchor with Clement Townsend...
    http://lagniappemobile.com/lance-crawford-out-as-wpmi-shakes-up-staff/

Clement took the reins as the sole sports director until leaving for another job several months later. The sports job was vacant until last September when Paxton Boyd was hired. He lasted less than a year.

Interesting move as this is the second about-face the station has made under the current management, who made the earlier changes under their watch as well...the first being swapping Deitra Tate and Kelly Foster back into their prior roles as weekend and morning meteorologist, respectively.

There's still no word on who will be replacing Deitra Tate, as well as departing Chief Meteorologist Derek Beasley...both who will be leaving in the next few weeks...

I know with what all was going on in Roanoke with the shooting at WDBJ, that it might have been highly inappropriate to report this at that time. This still might be, but as I was watching the WSET live feed yesterday at 5 PM, I noticed that Mark Spain was sitting next to Noreen Turyn.

    Three big stories from DCRTV:

Derek McGinty announces his departure from WUSA, but will continue to host Capital Download.
Erica Grow also announces her departure from WUSA to take a weekend weather position at WNBC.
Scott Smith is leaving WTTG in three months after his contract expires as the station is "de-emphasizing" traditional sports.

Derek leaving WUSA that kind of big with Derek McGinty, Lesli Foster and Jan Jeffcoat holding the evening newscast down. I wonder will TEGNA poached some talent from WTTG or WJLA or find someone from in-house TEGNA stations.

Now just add NBG as the new GM and Doug Dougherty (sp) as the operations director...and you got the old band from San Diego(KCST) and LA(KCBS/KCAL) back together. They may actually do some serious damage to KGET and KERO. Can they get Doug from KGW?

WUAB will be making some major programming changes beyond the "CLE43" rebrand.

    Current lineup:

    Upcoming lineup:

Yes, for the first time ever, Cleveland will have a 9pm newscast. And WUAB has apparently conceded defeat after competing with WJW in the 10pm timeslot for 21 years.

I don't understand why Fox didn't sell KTBC to Local TV back in 2007. They don't air either Cowboys or Texans games and for some reason Fox still keeps it, but why?

WOW! There still will be a 10pm news just for 30 minutes so they still will compete for the first 30 minutes. Several things come to mind here. In 2001/2002 WKBD conceded to WJBK in Detroit during the 10pm hour. To see WUAB still with a 10pm in the television climate it only (30minutes) I guess the bottom line is they still see $$$.
    • What does FOX plan to do with MyNetwork TV? Will it cease airing anything or what will be BIG is during the 90s WUAB aired Hercules, Xena (oops forgot NBC commissioned the series) & those Action Pack Movies.
    • Will other affiliates shuffle MyNetwork TV to late night like WUAB is doing?

I though KTBC/Austin had always aired Cowboys games? They're the sister station to KDFW/Dallas and yet they (KTBC/Austin) doesn't show Cowboys games? I could understand why they don't show Texans games because they're an AFC team (CBS has the AFC package) but not showing Cowboys game? Inexcusable on their part.

KTVT has the rights to Cowboys preseason games in Dallas, and KEYE has them in Austin (but on tape delay on this occasion, probably because they had to carry the network game).

A look at the Cowboys network roster shows that it has quite a few Nexstar and Sinclair stations. Perhaps the contract dates to the Four Points days? If not, Sinclair stations in San Antonio, OKC and Beaumont do have the rights to the Cowboys.

There are a decent number of group deals with preseason games. The Falcons preseason network is composed in its majority in Raycom-owned Fox stations. The Quincy Wisconsin system holds the rights to the Packers in four markets. The Chiefs 65TPT network has a substantial chunk of Nexstar stations.

And, of course, a substantial proportion of NFL preseason broadcasters do not have regular season rights to the teams. There are a number of ABC, CW and independent stations, as well as NBC affiliates. The Cardinals network is KNXV-KWBA-KVVU, for instance (and I expect that at the next contract renewal Scripps obtains Cards rights for KTNV).

But what's the point of Fox still keeping KTBC to this day if they aren't in one of the Top 10 DMAs, aren't a legacy Fox station (They were with NW Communications before going to Fox), and aren't going to air Cowboys or Texans games, especially the former?

Well, they are on track to carry nine Cowboys games in the regular season and can theoretically have a maximum of 13 regular season contests a year (but they appear on NBC three times and ESPN once; they must have one Thursday night game and two CBS AFC games). It's not like KTBC isn't the home of most Cowboys games.

KTBC I think provides certain support services to KDFW and KRIV, particularly Texas government coverage.
