Here are how many positions each market's rank changed between this year and last. There might have been several reassignments of counties, as 32 markets moved 5 or more places in the rankings, which seems like an unusually high number of movements in just one year.

The SusquValley got a good bump up this year to number 41. Nice surprise.

It seems like they took at least one county from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre given their plunge.

Also, it looks like Grand Rapids got plundered hard by Flint and a county (probably Yates) shuttled between Syracuse and Rochester once again. When the NFL still did blackouts, Yates County was a hot potato given how it's westernmost chunk is exactly 74.9 miles from what now is New Era Field, thus in years under Syracuse putting them in the Bills blackout zone.

As there are fewer and fewer TV homes, methodological questions start creeping into the number of TV homes and thus the DMA rankings.

No wonder there's so much movement in terms of rankings. This is a strange one.

Same as last year's though. West Michigan really took a beating, falling six spots to now in danger of getting out of the Top 50.

Southwest Florida is now at #55, Gainesville has gone up to #157 (continues to gain spots, slowly though), Miami and Orlando retain their spots.

What surprised me is that Boston, despite years of falling back on the list (was as high as #6 or #7 as I recall), is back up again and now at #9 again, swapping spots with Atlanta.

Looks like Kansas City got a little bump up to #32. Meanwhile, Lincoln-Hastings-Kearney took a decent dive from 106 to 111 while they're neighboring market (Omaha) bumped up 6 slots to 69.

Yikes. Wichita, KS falling 9 spots? That seems a bit extreme. Biggest decline in the country.

Geez, Tampa's almost in the top ten. I knew it was definitely in the top 20, but this is a surprise.

Looks like Sumter County moved from Orlando to Tampa. I wonder which county Harrisburg swiped from S/W-B?

Glendive, MT., DMA 210 is still DMA 210...and only has 3 marked police cars...and one undercover police car.

They have a nice parade every year in Glendive.

    Parades & Street Closure Fees:
Merrill Avenue during normal business hours- $50.00
-Merrill Avenue not during normal business hours- $100.00
-Merrill Avenue closure- $100.00 per day
-City may provide barricades upon request for a $75.00 refundable deposit
-Applicants must provide proof of $1 Million liability insurance naming the City of Glendive
    as certificate holder

How much of that drop was attributed by cord cutters?

Exactly! And that is not a demographic evenly represented in every DMA. Cord cutting forces us to ask methodological questions of the Nielsen DMA system that were not necessary five years ago.

My home market of Greenville-New Bern, NC lost 24,000 homes and dropped 7 slots. Did we lose a county to another market?

Boston was at one point as high as #5. I believe this was back in 2003-04 though (also the last season that Detroit was in the top ten).

Why was a legit question deleted?

I asked if the count on the DMA was done before or after the hurricane?

What is odd about that question?

I misread that as humor, so I'm going to actually contribute something useful here.

The Nielsen DMA rankings use estimates of how the TV universe will look on January 1. They are not counts, and I suspect Florence was too recent to the release of the estimates to have factored into the count.

If someone has the archives of these, what was New Orleans in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 in households? If the big post-Katrina drop was in 2006-07, then that would be analogous to this situation.
