    Out & About

For the second time since over three years, KITV in Hawaii will be airing the 91st Academy Awards live at 3pm Hawaii Time. They first aired the broadcast live in 2016. But in the last two years, they went back to airing the broadcast tape-delayed at 7pm Hawaiian time.

....and then, no sooner that the rear monitor is impacted, he goes and sits down on his tablet! Is he really trying for 2-in-a-row? Glad I don't have to replace that monitor.

    KHOU's new building

As cheap/quirky/lazy as much of the on-air product has gotten with several Tegna stations, I'm a bit surprised that they actually ponied up for KHOU to actually move and have a different spot in what looks to be a nice office building in a (definitely) better part of town, in a geographic sense.

    2018-19 Syndication News

After seemingly endless episodes with solo stand-in hosts and multi stand-in hosts, Wendy's show will start airing reruns on Monday. No timeline was given for the reruns, nor for the return of Wendy to the show. She has not appeared in a new episode of her show since before Christmas. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6726175/The-Wendy-Williams-going-reruns-amid-hosts-months-long-absence-medical-reasons.html

    KVIA 1995 theme

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m51U82j-ttY the best cut of the bumper/headline theme is at 16:58 and it appears this was a full theme as each segment has it's own custom cut. the NMSA has this theme listed as being a custom composure, however, if there are no other stations who used this theme I was wondering if anyone would be able to identify the artist? I'm asking because this is the newscast that I grew up watching so by default this is my favorite news theme.

    Nexstar to acquire Tribune

Just because it mentions all 15 markets that are overlapping doesn't mean that Nexstar has to sell in all 15 markets The Portland and Washington, D.C. duopolies are perfectly LEGAL! It's markets like Salt Lake City, Indianapolis, Des Moines, and 10 other overlapping markets that Nexstar CANNOT have a duopoly, triopoly, etc. And thus, they have to sell

CITY-TV was never the same after they canceled "The 20 Minute Workout"... That WAS The Pulse of the CITY.

    Nexstar to acquire Tribune

How are we reading into it? That quote is directly from the Bloomberg article. Unless Bloomberg has wrong info, then it seems pretty clear Nexstar wants to divest a station in Portland.

    International Out and About

It's C-FNPQ, a R44 naturally. Former recent CIII-TV Global News chopper, as well as previously for sister Corus radio station AM640 CFMJ, and further back as CHCH's chopper. "Chopper 680" has been flying since the start of the month for the radio, now ready for the technical side of City. Port side has 680 News logos, while the Starboard side has the CityNews logos. Slowly getting back in the game City, sadly still without a pulse.
  17. Way back in the olden days of 1994...when people weren't so uptight, and when folks could take a good joke...KNBC's Dick K Smith retired. Who was Dick K. Smith? Dick was a NBC cameraman based in Burbank for 36 years. When Dick retired in 1994 a going away tape (traditional) was shot and cut. A station photog and producer would roam the building getting nasty sound pops and vicious "bites' to send off the retiree. This tape was recovered by the OP (Thank You Bob z) when NBC LA moved to Universal city in 2014. There is a lot of "inside stuff" here that most the public NEVER sees...and it's shows how crass and seriously dis-jointed one becomes after spending too much time in newsrooms, and the streets. Enjoy the tape for what it is...nothing but fun spirited.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I found this particularly surprising considering that the news division was short on resources and revenue for a pretty long time...like for more than 15 years now. I guess Rogers found some extra cash after gutting out some auxiliary staff, and in turn the last remains of a traditional news format after last year's reboot.

Wait what?! CityPulse is getting a news chopper? I never saw that coming. It truly is the "little station that could." (yes, CityPulse instead of CityNews because that's what Citytv was... covering The Pulse of Toronto, every night.)

More from this channel - WHOA! ‘DEF picked up Counterpoint in early ‘96?! Then that means they used PYCCO afterward, and THEN reverted to Counterpoint AGAIN in ‘98? Shes also got some WYFF work as well (their very first “News 4” era!)
  24. H4UL4U

WXZX goes back to its old format

There are two times I can recall stations in Columbus flipping formats to sports radio to compete with The Fan, and both were massive failures. I'm not saying this is the reason, but I'm guessing they simply didn't have the resources to compete. Columbus is a weird sports town. Yes, Buckeye football is popular, but the other sports aren't even with two pro franchises. Those teams have a niche base that don't consume traditional media. Long story short, in this media landscape any additional terrestrial sports radio in Columbus would be a mistake without careful market research.

    Nexstar to acquire Tribune

I think we're reading too much into that (in particular Hagerstown/D.C. and Portland) those can form legal duopolies with no issues, it's the other 13 markets that Nexstar has to sell before gaining approval from the DOJ/FCC
  26. PTVNews

    Nexstar to acquire Tribune

So Nexstar does not want to form a duopoly with KOIN and KRCW??!! Interesting.

    Random WFLD thread

It's been quite the last 3 weeks for Rafer, with his Smollett reporting putting him in the national spotlight and now this promotion.
