NBC "Fires" Donald Trump: Peacock Drops Miss-es USA and Universe Pageants

We've learned a valuable lesson, kids! Don't act like a pompous blowhard, because as Donald Trump showed us, eventually it will shoot you in the foot if you insult the wrong people.

Chances are the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants will go on untelevised, look at Miss Teen USA, which Trump and NBCU also co-own through the Miss Universe Organization. For reasons I haven't found out yet, that pageant hasn't aired on TV since the 2007 event... and it still is being held.

The only ones who stand to lose here are the Miss USA/Miss Universe viewers (like me, and probably a few other posters on this site) and contestants (the latter because of the national exposure), but we saw this coming. Donald Trump has no filter, and was bound to say something to shove both feet, legs and arms in his mouth someday.

The only way either of those pageants are televised again is if A: they're streamed online, which they may have no choice but to do; B: somehow get another broadcaster to carry them, which is unlikely in the short-term at the very least; or C: NBCUniversal or someone else buys out Trump's interest in the MUO, which is possible but not likely because Trump is likely to fight such a buyout. In fact, while NBCU made a standup move in cutting ties with Trump, if he's not bluffing about suing Univision for backing out of their contract, then NBCU will have to get their lawyers ready... and they'll probably be as big as Univision's or Trump's.

In the end... this all leads me to a big who *Bleeping* cares?

Like seriously! I don't watch these pageants. They are just stupid.. a whole PR stunt to me, just for recognition when these ladies never do anything right for the world. Just a total PR stunt by someone who insulted me (since I'm a Latino), has no idea what he's talking about and has no chance of becoming President now. He should just stick to becoming a businessman... PERIOD.

Except for the fact that Trump thinks NBC and Univision severing ties with him are actually a good thing for him and will get him votes.

What I don't understand is what the hell he was talking about when said that he knew "NBC has a really weak stance on immigration." What?

Well, Trump has an inflated (warped) worldview. Remember this is the same guy who believed that Jorge Ramos' inquest for an interview with him (Trump didn't even bother to obscure Ramos' work phone number in the correspondence letter he posted on Instagram after it was sent to him) was Univision begging for an apology.

He didn't (or didn't want to) understand the fact it was to discuss his comments and Univision's decision to terminate their contract with the Miss Universe Organization because of them in an interview, or that because as Univision Communications stated in its release regarding their entertainment division's decision to break their business ties to Trump that its news division will still cover him as part of their political coverage as long as he's still in the Presidential race.

The whole thing will pass in a few days.

Telemundo quietly move in.

Trump will not file his required FEC filings...and will no longer be in the race.

Give it less than 90days.

Trump is Unfired!

Besides he has to piss off a few more countries before his bottom line is hurt.

Heck he has to piss off the entire universe .

Univision pulled out....Not Miss Mexico.

I'd hope the networks had a morality clause on their broadcast rights contracts. I do wonder how much time is left on NBC's contract and how much it will cost them in the long run. If I remember correctly NBC is the "co-owner" of the pageant for a set period of time (I think it was 5 years) after which they can renew.

But NBC and Univision I believe did the right thing.

For all I know, and for everyone's (but Trump's) sake, I think it's very clear that NBC and Univision really did do the right thing.

I was surprised Univision was their Spanish broadcast partner. Telemundo aired the last Miss Universe pageant.

Televisa has pulled out now, and Mexico says they will not send anyone to the pagent.

But if trump is a co-owner does he not have a say about "Mexicos" candidate?

So NBC, Trump are all part owners, but isn't there a Board of Directors for Ms. Universe?

Will other Central and South American countries pull out also?

One thing with Trump...like him or not....he can stir it up.

Gotta reconsider now if he is a real runner for Prez. He has to make those FEC filings or he is out. Will trump have the guts to disclose his financials?????

Or are we getting played big time???

I smell something fishy.

Trump's a troll. Simple as that.

That said, if he were to somehow win the GOP nomination, it wouldn't matter who the Democrats nominate -- they'd still beat him in the general election.

You know what? Me too.

If NBCUniversal co-owns the pageants with Trump, it should make a lot of sense if its Spanish-language network Telemundo should air the Spanish-language simulcast. Univision must have made a bigger offer that made NBCU fold, which is strange and puzzles me greatly. Unless the pageants are ruled under Trump's company.

With the appropriate hairdo. Or hairdon't.

Without wanting to turn political, a number of GOP candidates wouldn't stand a chance in the general. But Trump is the only one who is in it for himself, and only himself.

Alex Wehrley actually worked here in Oklahoma City as a host of the now-cancelled "Oklahoma Live" on KSBI (pre-Griffin purchase) in 2012-13. She then had a brief stint as host of Tribune's syndicated morning show "EyeOpener", before leaving that program last year.
