Sarah Wallace Disappears from WABC

Was briefly mentioned in the WABC thread, but I think it's worthy of its own topic. Sarah's bio was taken down from WABC's website and all of her social media profiles were removed.

FTVLive alleges to have obtained a copy of the email the ND sent to WABC staff announcing her departure last night. It is incredibly terse -- in the context of Sarah's 30 years at WABC -- which contributes to the bizarre-ness of this. There must have been some dispute.

Two intriguing tweets from Shimon Prokupecz of CNN:

According to TVSpy and Shimon Prokupecz's tweet, WABC-TV reporter Jim Dolan sent a follow-up e-mail to newsroom staff that said, “We lost a giant when Sarah Wallace walked out the door today, a reporter for whom I have endless respect. Sarah did what we are supposed to do, what we don’t do enough. And she did it every day.”

Agreed. Does not sound like an amicable split.

She did investigative reporting as part of "The Investigators" along with Jim Hoffee. Nina's 7 On Your Side segment handies consumer reporting.

oh that;s right it's been a while since I've watched an investigative report on there and i realized its differnt BTW it's Hoffer.

The investigative team has received less and less air time for special investigations over the years and have been relegated instead to doing mostly "closer look" types of stories when there's breaking news about things such as commuter train accidents or construction mishaps.

And yes, it is Hoffer - was typing from an autocorrecting phone - fixed earlier post!

Does WPIX still have its "PIX11 Investigates" unit? Haven't watched in a while. Maybe Sarah Wallace goes there (if the station can afford her).

But yeah, a HUGE loss for Channel 7.

I wonder if WABC plans to replace Wallace with a new hire or moving someone to the investigative beat, or if it'll just be Jim Hoffer from now on. Based on the lack of attention being given to investigative reporting these days, I wouldn't be surprised if the latter is true.

I'm not trying to put words in anyone's mouth, but didn't Kaity file a age discrimination lawsuit against WPIX a few years back? I wonder if, by speaking out, she's implying that something similar is going on here.

UPDATE: I was close. She was closely tied to another former employee's ageism suit...

Sounds like Kaity could be steering it in the direction of age discrimination, but that seems beneath EWN.

Could it be WABC believed there were some ethical issues in her reporting, and released her? Highly doubtful but you never know...

To me it sounds more like WABC said something, Sarah got angry and stormed out and quit. That said I have no more information than you do.
