Confirmed: Gannett to drop CNN Newsource. (is Newsource next?)

Is the end near for the 30+ affiliate wire service provided by CNN?

FTVlive reported a rumor early yesterday that the Deathstar would likely drop using Newsource after the new year. Gannett now owns tons of stations after the Belo acquisition in 2013, and can we say this is cost cutting?

Now it's been confirmed:

A screengrab shows an email

So the question now with this big client dumping Newsource (FTVlive compared this to the Fox O&O drop of many years ago as they went in house and partnered with CBS and ABC's Newspath and Newsone respectively) will Zucker get it his way of finding another excuse to shut down CNN properties?

The thing is, between bitcentral (of which oasis is one module) and NNS (the pass-through news service for CBS, ABC and FOX affiliates) there really isn't much need to pay for Newsource.

AP provides better printed wire service coverage too.

The only Gannett stations that I could see losing something are the group's NBC affiliates, since that network isn't part of NNS. But then again, that's what oasis will help bridge.

Gannett seems to have tons of NBC affiliates, esp in the flagship markets in AZ, Denver, MN and Atlanta (and others too.)
