New/updated KDVR graphics

There's a new news director in town, and that means it's time to start tinkering with things. KDVR debuted a heavy update to its on-air look sometime this week. It bears a lot of resemblance to the former look with a lot of the same elements, though it has a very different feel. There's no more gold as dark blue, black, and red dominate the new look. Gotham has also replaced almost all uses of Helvetica and Eurostile. The music is still the same. I'm not sure what the morning look looks like, but it's probably something similar.

To me, it looks more like those old Fox O&O graphics that they had for a long time. I could see other Tribune stations using this. So far, I don't think KWGN has changed at all.

Here are some screenshots from their stream. If I can figure out how to do videos again, I'll post one.

I wonder what is keeping Tribune from rolling out new graphics to the former Local TV stations? Unless they plan on creating a whole new package for their FOX affiliates to use....

Still better than what most of the other Tribune/former LocalTV stations have.

Heck, WJW still is using the 2007 Fox O&O standarsdized graphics, which have been mutated in-house numerous times. That package needed to be retired three years ago.

And WGHP's appearance is simply dreadful.

I would love to see the morning graphics.

Here are the morning graphics. Aside from adopting the new lower thirds, ticker, and a revised full screen graphic, the morning graphics are unchanged. Keep in mind that these aren't the original morning graphics for this package. The original morning graphics were just a bright orange and yellow version of the nightside graphics. About two years ago, when they relaunched Good Day Colorado with new anchors and a new set (which didn't match the morning graphics anymore), they made a customized graphics package for it along with slightly tamer music. It has a lot in common with the new nightside graphics with the flying parallelograms, though it's not exact.

I still think what KDVR has is a lot better than the Tribune Fox graphics, and it's especially impressive considering that KDVR has been able to produce all of this (and KWGN's graphics) in-house.

Tribune should just hub all of their graphics at KDVR/KWGN and deploy that look groupwide. It makes all of their other stations look archaic, primitive, neglected and boring.

This package also puts the generic look Fox has forced on their O&Os to total and complete shame.

Who knows, that probably would happen, except for Tribune's "Big 3" (WPIX, KTLA and Tribune flagship WGN).

WGN could easily use these, considering they've been using the same graphics since they went HD back in 2008(!).

Nope.they got new graphics in September. And,I'd take WGN's new look over KDVR's any day.

There certainly are some similarities between this and WGN's, but I'm with you: WGN's are much better executed. They're definitely the best of the Tribune stations, and I hope KTLA and WPIX will get something similar. KDVR's are pretty good, but the evening ones are just too dark.

My only gripe with 'GN's look is the bug being in the safe zone. I think the lower third bar would look more balanced if it filled the width of the screen, especially considering the split screen is wide. But, that's it.

WITI and what they are using is great except for the open. IT is very functional. WDAF is an eyesore as well as most of the Local TV group (minus KDVR/KWGN)

WITI's graphics are heavily "inspired" by KTLA's look a few years back. It's still pretty obvious in the weather graphics.

Of course, they could probably just... get the KTLA package now. Not sure how willing the stations are to sharing amongst themselves, though.

KCPQ and WOWK (not even a Tribune station) both use the KTLA package. Should be no problem for WITI to do the same.
