WJLA - New Graphics Coming?

Just noticed on WJLA's news post football that the ticker is different and the orange "flare" is now silver on the L3s.

The ticker font has changed from Futura Condensed to the DIN-style font I'm seeing on other Sinclair stations.

It looks good.

The only thing I can't stand are those annoying Michael & Son sponsored tickers. I guess I should be glad they aren't like WRC's where it looks like the truck is leading/unloading the ticker out of the truck and their wheels are moving. Thankfully their logo (sans) truck appears on WMAR's ticker and they only appear on WJZ and WBAL's during school closings.

But I am so glad that here in Baltimore no (big three) has allowed Browns car store to drive their car across the screen as a snipe. I vaguely remember something like that on WBFF a while back. Or maybe it was the Michael & Son truck driving across WBFF's LBar.

I'm not familiar with either of these businesses so I'm lost. The typeface is an upgrade at least.

The Michael & Son logo is a truck with their logo on the box in the back, http://www.michaelandson.com, and at WRC they made it look like their ticker text wound up in the back of the truck with the wheels moving ( on occasion).

May need to refresh to see the above post. When it originally appeared the truck was much smaller.

As for the Browns car store you can see the snipe driving across the screen in the second image for the OP.

Today (4PM - January 28, 2015) marks the debut of the new WJLA graphics and music package. The first one from Sinclair. There is no channel+time/temp bug. The 4:3 safe zones are maintained randomly. The L3s consist of a white rectangle with blue FF Din text in it. I think they threw away one of the best ever graphics packages in the favor of this new one. Here are a few shots:

"It's a breath of fresh, flat air."

I'm already drowned in that air. Every channel has this flat look. B-O-R-I-N-G... The former WJLA was good to look at, had superb transitions, and great music. The new one looks like somebody made it in PowerPoint in ten minutes trying to copy the Windows 8 look. Sinclair started the destruction...

The previous look was mediocre at best when it debuted, but it had become horribly outdated and tired.

The look is terribly bland and simple.

Both are SERIOUSLY flawed.

Pretty much. S!nclair's look is intentionally bland because of the mass conglomerate that they are.

I could almost guarantee the bug is being added downstream of the control room.

Isn't that how it is at most stations? I thought that's one of the main uses that a down stream is used for.

If I recall correctly Sinclair's first generation HD graphics did not have a "burnt in" logo so they could easily share packages between stations without requiring further user intervention. If you viewed a video online you probably see an empty space where the logo would be.

There is a bug. It debuted halfway through the 5pm show yesterday. attachicon.gifimage.jpg

Ok, here is one of my issues with the graphics. The idea seems to be to make the graphics more simplistic, but why two tickers? Its too much. The white space is blinding and the two tickers seem to make it a headache to watch. Smh.

WOAI doesn't use the ticker setup at all:

Two tickers?

Maybe for NC8... maybe. But I can't think of any other OTA station that has used two tickers. (I won't count CHCH because of their 2002-era Headline News graphical setup during their daytime news wheel.)

Take the bottom ticker out, and the look is serviceable.

Do the other Sinclair stations have two tickers? I know WBFF does but at times it seems like their chyron unit is struggling to power both of them. At times the news ticker stutters where it either slows down or stops and the bottom ticker's transitions for the different leagues have the same problem, but when the leagues name slides upward.

I think WSYX uses two tickers during Good Day Columbus but I'm not completely sure.
