WBZ started using those on Friday. The "New Story", "Live", and "New Tonight" animations are blue, but the "breaking news" one is red. Also, either last week or the week before they added sort of an orange hue to the cbs eye animations found on many of the monitors in the studio.

Personally I don't think it fits the existing package at all, and if anything it looks like a rip of NBC's Look F (especially the WCAU rendition). I wonder, though, if they're planning some kind of refresh of the graphics. They are two years old at this point, even though some stations switched more recently.
Speaking of refresh, they seem to have reworked their websites again. The layout's much improved, I think. They also launched a new iPad app called YourDay - it's a single app for all of their markets with TV or news/talk radio stations, and you can switch between cities on the fly. It's probably the most attractive and usable local news iPad (or, for that matter, iPhone) app I've seen. They get a little overboard with the interstitial ads, but it's a well-designed app.

I would like to see that. Isn't the Evening News supposed to get new graphics at some point? I'd love to see an alignment of a new O&O look and a new network look. That's probably asking too much of CBS' creative staff though.

I don't think that would necessarily be too much. At least for awhile, KYW and the O&Os were running network-produced packages with network-produced graphics that had the network layout and fonts but with the O&O glass eye backdrop. Plus I get a real O&O graphics vibe out of the CBS This Morning package, so they clearly have the ability to at least adapt work between the units. Plus, if you look far enough back - the 80s, but still - CBS *did* manage a consistent look between CBS News and the O&Os (hell, for that matter nearly every affiliate). It's not impossible and is probably feasible.
The real question would be whether they can get the news bosses and the O&O management on the same page. CBS doesn't have the dominant force of a Roger Ailes or a huge graphics infrastructure like NBC.

Agreed.

The update is a big step up with the exception of one nitpick. The "quick links" section looks sort of lost being stuck right in the middle of the page like that.
As for the app, it looks very impressive. I just wish they would have made a version for iphone as well.

Late to the party here but I agree. These look so amateurish I assumed they were in-house. Now that I know they're not, I'm rolling my eyes at CBS.
Happily, if you change your plans, Mirena is easily removed.
