As expected, KDKA did receive the O&O graphics treatment beginning with the noon newscast. I tuned in to the Morning News and they were still using the old stuff, but Mr. Valinsky confirms the change took place at 12.

I thought I'd hate this look on KD, but it really is a drastic improvement. They did finally switch to Enforcer, which was kind of unexpected. KDKA has also dropped the white outlines from it's logo.

Much more to come, I hope to have HD caps up by 5:00 tonight.

Thanks to Jordan for the heads up.
My condolences in regard to your lack of personality.

Happily, if you change your plans, Mirena is easily removed.

I just saw a video on kdka.com and just heard the last second of a music cut.. Sounds like they used a cut from the Hegner News in Focus portion of the Enforcer package. Is that what they're using?

Hopefully both the new KYW and KDKA intros will be posted on YouTube. I would like to see them.

I just turned on KDKA and was really surprised to see the new look! After spending weeks in New York watching this new look on WCBS, I have to say I like it much better on KDKA and is a major improvement from the old look. It's kind of a surprise I can't wait to see the open, especially at 11 (unfortunately I don't have the equipment to upload screen caps or videos, so I will leave that to "Jestbiteme"). All in all, a much needed improvement!

I really like it, too. It brings a much needed "classy" look to KDKA. Not many graphics glitches today, unlike KYW, just a few human error type things. (Wrong b-roll, wipes ending too soon.)

One touch I like is the "Traffic Alert" L3 that features blinking caution lights-- a little attention to detail we're not used to in the market. It also looks like there are different scenes underneath each open--at least, the four and five PM newscasts had different scenes. I do miss the animated HD wings for field video, but maybe that's coming.

Overall, not the dark, oppressive look I was expecting. Videos are encoding as we speak and will be posted ASAP.

As far as music, it's primarily New Generation 2 for opens and teases, Series 2 for the cold tease, and series 4 (whatever you want to call the 2nd round of WUSA updates) for the stocks.

Watch them in HD!

This all looks incredible. A little part of me is sad to see KDKA Prime go, but it's all for the best - KDKA wasn't using it well, anyways! The old graphics started in 2005, so they really needed a makeover.

Matt, do you know if they let the full open play out when they don't have breaking news? I love that track for the open, but they cut it off too quickly! Overall it's a nice, much needed change.

It's probably for the better.. Enforcer makes the station feel a little more dignified. The past couple KDKA packages were a little too peppy for me. Especially that 1997-98 Jon Gorr theme that sounds more like it belongs in a Chi-Chi's Mexican salsa commercial.

They do let the whole open play out! I'll try to get some caps from the late news tonight. I want to see what the video behind the open is going to be!

I'm impressed by KDKA's rebrand. Prime might have gone but they're using a *LOT* of cuts from virtually all of Enforcer as can be seen by the clips. I love that shot of Pittsburgh too.

Am I the only one that can't stand the poor keyframing of that graphic? The way the "News" part moves and angles itself oddly before it animates out bothers me.

What bothers me is the dual shadow behind it on the CBS eye and the logo. I don't know what it would look like if words actually did fly though the air, but with one light source I only expect one shadow.

Anyway, here are some stills!

Don't they have any other sun graphic they can use on the 5 day?!? That sun just looks so dark, dull, and depressing.. It doesn't make a sunny day look like a good/fun day. It just seems every other station has a sun graphic that looks big, bright, and a big happy ball of fire. lol..

I’m not so sure that’s a good thing. Enforcer (like many other Gari packs) is an easy package to misuse. There are just so many versions and series. If a station doesn’t stick to similar sounding cuts, things can sound disorganized. The point of the music is to make the newscast instantly identifiable, and using a mish-mash of cuts doesn’t help the station sound recognizable (believe me; I hear this package misused all the time on KOTV).

I love the new open...but KDKA Prime sounds so much better than Enforcer. It was one of my top 5 news themes! I'm tempted to do a re-sync of the new graphics and the old theme.
