With little fanfare, Good Morning America has launched an all-new graphics package and theme song. Gone are all the angles and trapezoids of the last look, replaced by thick, "swoopy" bars that bear intentional resemblance to the news ticker facade of their Times Square Studio. The bright blue, yellow and white theme is virtually gone (save for the ticker-like lower thirds), traded in for rich red, orange and gold.

First Impressions: I guess the package is nice, but it seems like it's missing refinement, especially in the lower thirds that swoop (there's that word again) in from the left but abruptly end on the right side of the screen, similar to the '05-06 graphics. Also new is the theme song. It sounds similar to the election theme, but very bland and generic. It is very disappointing if any of you were a fan of the last theme...which I was.

Overall, the new look is big and flashy (if not, clunky and cheesy), yet it somehow manages to be very "ho-hum". The last package may have lacked character, but they were elegant, simple and fresh...I don't know what you'd call this hodge-podge.

Update: Here's the screenshots...

I have a suspicion more ABC News programs will be getting new theme music soon...

World News has also gotten a slight refresh in the headline intro, the rest of the graphics appear to be the same.

Looks like the set got an extra helping of BLUE, too.

I still like WNN and America This Morning graphics better on ABC.
Loved the Early Show from the Harry Smith, Dave Price, Maggie Rodriguez era. (2008-2010)

"Today" got a refresh today too. Coincidental? I think not.

Stations knew they were changing today for a few weeks (Name Dropper had to be updated to fit the graphics package). I would say that this may be a coincidence.

Can anyone tell what font they're using?

The new font is Gotham Narrow.

I have to admit, though, despite the originality of the graphics (modeling them after the outside of the studios is pure genius), I don't really like the music. It's really urgent sounding and hard-newsey, and it just doesn't fit on a morning show. Also of note, the news updates with Josh Elliot already had these kind of graphics phased in for a while. It's the OTS graphics, my guess is that they wanted to phase in one portion of the new graphics to prepare people.

You can thank the new CBS This Morning for spurring that among both of them.
